probably my favourite pictures of the barbary macaque troop living on the rock of gibraltar.

barbary macaques are one of two species who exhibit "Triadic interactions". 2 males will sit with a baby, and "babysit", using it as a social mediator to establish friendly social contact, which helps with strenghtening bonds in the social hierachy! younger males do this, sometimes combined with friendly teeth chattering, in order to climb the social hierachy. the baby also benefits, enjoying the attention provided!

Gorilla sketches incoming. featuring Annie and Kiyomasa. I was going to draw them more cartoony, but that didn’t happen. I left their proportions more realistic but gave more character to their eyes.

I wanted to draw Annie with her funny haircut, but Kiyomasa was in the reference shots as well so I drew him. I thought his sagittal crest was pretty small, but when I drew it I realized it’s getting big! little boy is growing up 🥺

still wondering who is going to higashiyama zoo EVERY DAY filming the gorillas? It has to be one of the staff???
