Here is how I designed my dog, Haily, to fit into the fantasy world with Fulynn Designs.
She was the hardest to design. I had no inspiration for her so, to make it easier I thought to do a play on her name. I simply needed an animal that rhymed with Haily. That’s when caribou came to mind.
It is not a typical so it would be a unique design so I went for it and thus Hailibou was born.
Here is the design:
I am happy with this design as it is simple while still being fantastical enough and a unique combination.
Here is how I designed my grey cat, Spooky, to fit into the fantasy world with Fulynn Designs.
The story behind this is very heavily tied to Halloween as that’s when I found this cat outside of the house on Halloween. #catdistributionsystem
Initially I wanted the cat to be a spooky fantasy creature to tie into Halloween but I found that to be often the case with cats.
I then thought it would be fun have a play on the name. At first I was going to go with Spooky the Kabuki but then I was suggested to try Spooky the Tanuki. Thus, Spoonuki was born.

I settled on the more brown design and I plan on uploading a video story of Spoonuki around Halloween.
Here is a breakdown of how I designed my Australian Shepherd into a robot.
I knew I wanted to design my dog, Willow, into a robot because I find she responds similar to the character Baymax.
When she hears someone sneeze she immediately darts towards who sneezed in what I believe is in concern to the loud noise.
I was initially going to call her Wil.io but that ended up linking to someone’s website so she is known as Wil.O.
My initial design was very much heavily inspired by an artist I found on ArtStation and how they designed their robot dog:
Modern Guardian, Marie Stephanie Surga
After sitting with this design, I realized it was too complex for me to feel motivated to draw again and no longer fit the idea of what robots look like nowadays.
They have a cleaner design and are more simple than in the past. I was now looking at a more Maymax or Eve from Wall-E design.
I also took inspiration from the PlayStation robot as they had different dog designs.
I still wanted the robot to look like an Australian Shepherd. Unfortunately there wasn’t any illustrations like that I can take inspiration from that’s not AI-generated.
Here is the new design:
After taking a look at the PlayStation robot dogs, I added sharp corners to act as the fluff and made the limbs float similar to Eve’s design.
I also added a harness into the design of the body as she wears one on walks.
The top of the harness is usually wear a name tag goes but in my design, it’s a solar panel and can act as a screen to access a menus for stored items.
I am much happier with this design as it will be easier to draw again and it is not heavily inspired by another artist.
Here is a breakdown of how I designed the mascot of my brand, Maple the panda bear.
It started with wanting to have a cute mascot to represent me online. I wanted it to represent my identity of Chinese and Canadian, so I took 2 things that each are known for: maple leaves/syrup and a panda bear.
I had an initial design of the bear in simple black and white with a maple leaf on its head. They would be named Maple and love eating maple syrup. Similar to the characteristics of Winnie the Pooh.
I wanted the design to be cute but not furry-like. In the end, I went with a similar design to Webkinz.

After sitting with it and improving as an artist, I knew it was time to update and redesign this mascot. Especially since designing new characters to also represent my brand.
I knew I wanted to keep the cute aesthetic while also adding some Canadian aspects to it.
That’s when I decided on having the bear be half bear and half Chinese dragon. It would have a mane and horns along with a small tail.
The colours matched the colours of my logo (see rebranding 2024 post)
I also wanted to design an alternate form similar to the one for Fulynn Designs that would occur every 12 years.

I am quite proud with this design and I believe both aspects of the character (panda and Chinese dragon) are visible to be able to tell.
Hello! This year for Otakuthon 2024 I was thinking of doing some causal cosplay as my VTuber Fulynn Designs.
I would then hand out business cards to encourage an audience and get people to notice me as an artist and commission me. 🤩💡
But then when I shared my idea with someone they suggested to do it in the theme for this year: Cyberpunk/techwear.
So here is my journey of my first cosplay:
First things first, I am self-conscious when it comes to cosplay and costumes in general.
I am very much interested in it and enjoyed dressing up for Halloween but very casually. I would use actual clothes as I grew up in fear of being the only one dressed up or getting the day wrong so that way I could argue that I’m not dressed up. 😅
So I would not sew my own costume and I understand that sewing is the best option for something the most flattering for your body. I simply did not have the time or motivation to sewing my own costume.
It also does not help that in Quebec, it can get cold in October and when adding extra layers that are not part of the costume can obscure it and ruin the look.
There was once when I was younger I was wearing the dress from the Barbie movie “Diamond Castle” and because of the weather I had to wear thick pants underneath to be warm but I felt it ruined the costume…
I also don’t want the costumes to be so specific that I can only wear them once then they take up storage space. When it comes to what I wear, I’ve been trying to buy clothes I can wear in multiple ways to get better use out of it.
That being said, I plan on approaching this the same way; use as much clothes (that I already have) as I can to reduce the cost and have it be something I could potentially wear again outside of conventions.
I started with designing an outfit around Fulynn Designs. I planned on cosplaying as a Cyberpunk version of her.
I adapted the kimono jacket into 3 different jacket designs I found off of the scam site The Kigu Stop. I felt it was fine to take the base designs and add my own patterns with the fact that it’s a scam and not an actual good place to buy from. The 3 jackets are: long lightweight, puff, and cropped.
I really liked the design of the puff jacket with the added belts on the arms and pockets. It was cool and the style I was going for.
I then designed a cropped jacket as I intended to have 3 different outfits. I don’t like the idea of sweating and wearing the same outfit. The cropped jacket would be when I want to wear a skirt as the puff jacket would counterbalance and block the flow of the skirt.
For the skirt, I found one from a dedicated cyberpunk/techwear site which comes with these suspenders and side pouch. 💯✨

To be unique with each outfit, I decided to have 1 with shorts, 1 with a skirt, and 1 with a unitard.
I wanted to try and reuse the same items without feeling uncomfortable. That would be with the jacket, shoes, and accessories.
I then thought it would be nice to try and wear a unitard in public.
I also wanted the colours to match/compliment this small backpack that I own.
Here is the complete design of the jackets and outfits (with and without the jackets):
I then realized I would need accessories in terms of a mask I wanted to add both for personal protection but it also goes with the style, and glasses.
That’s when I changed Fulynn’s hairstyle to a ponytail. To reflect on the potential weather in August; hot.
I also want to keep that in mind for the material used for the jackets. Something I won’t be too hot in. 💡
I then looked into accessories I could wear like tech-inspired bow for my ponytail and I can across products from a G3P Booth site(?).
They have exactly what I am looking for in terms of cool face masks and accessories in the tech aesthetic.
Unfortunately I waited too long (procrastination) on ordering them, relying on their 7-day delivery statement. I also did not expect all the accessories I was interested in to be out of stock…
I also completely changed the design to no longer be Fulynn Designs in a cyberpunk style. It will be purely a cyberpunk general cosplay.
I also added glasses to the idea in the theme of cyberpunk.

By the time I actually started preparing, I only bought the choker and made everything else.
I ended up buying a techwear jacket from the brand “Bosuman” to replace the other jacket that I tried to commission from someone who promised to get it done. I sent them $20 CAD and they ended up scamming me and did not deliver using excuses to prolong the project…
I used a maroon hoodie from Ardene and ironed on some of the designs as the next hoodie. We used a colour similar to the hoodie as the background as it would be too difficult to cut around the design.
For the unitard, I simply used a bathing suit and bought accessories off of Amazon.
I bought the skirt from the mentioned website. While the circuit dragon design, I commissioned an artist to design as I found it too difficult for me to design.
For the glasses I used tinted big sunglasses to go over pre-scripted glasses so I can still see. Using markers, the design was added on top.
For the masks, I used KN95s as I didn’t feel comfortable wearing the same mask and used a marker to add the designs.
Final Thoughts:
I definitely need to plan more advance and wear something even more comfortable for the summer heat. It was unfortunately a heat wave that week and I was not able to comfortably wear my full cosplay.
Next time, I will be cosplaying my character Fulynn Designs which is something that won’t go old and I can comfortable re-wear. It should also be comfortable to wear when it is hot. 💡
Hello! I recently came across the term “responsive logo” and I really liked the idea of it and wanted to bring that into my own brand.
I was not very consistent in name or visually so, here is a breakdown of how I became more consistent in my brand: Cen Lynn Designs!
For starters, I redesigned my logo. As a part of a responsive design I learned that there’s variation in the logo itself. There’s the full brand with name and logo but a good design can be recognized by icon alone and name.
I knew I wanted the new logo to be simple and easy to recognize. I also saw that font and colour palette matters. The colour palette should be simple with distinct colours.
My initial logo was in black and white and paid tribute to my identity as a Chinese-Canadian with the maple leaf and panda bear.
For the colour palette I used a website to find complimentary colours and even fonts.

Once I found a set of colours I was happy with, I moved to redesigning my logo using these colours.
It took a couple of tries before I realized I was not getting anywhere and needed to commission a logo artist.
That’s when I discovered @ShxdowFoxStudios who I chose to design my logo. It took a couple of tries before landing on a simple design that made sense to me.
The font was less of a focus as I noticed that the fonts from the website weren’t available everywhere. I did note down what I used.

Hello! Happy Chinese/Lunar New Year 2024! I’ve waited 12 years for this! To celebrate, I designed a new outfit/form for Fulynn Designs.
Every 12 years, she unlocks her full potential and has access to 100% of her power.
Here is a breakdown of how I designed this outfit.
Here is the moodboard where I gathered all the inspiration:
I knew I wanted the outfit to exert power while remaining elegant and even sexy.
I liked the idea of incorporating a long skirt into the design as I find that elegant and sexy.
I had trouble deciding on the pattern although I knew I wanted elements of dragons in it. I worked on it more when deciding the colour palette and reference sheet.
I also took inspiration for Ironmouse’s Underworld Goddess design. I appreciated how her design was able to appear elegant and sexy despite having a cute base design while still maintaining her base design.
Upon observing the design, I had come to the conclusion that it’s the added makeup that elevates Ironmouse’s design so I added makeup to my design too.
For the hairstyle, I chose to have her with a long ponytail to represent a dragon tail.

The colour palette sheet is where I thought more in the colour and pattern design:
I decided on red as the primary colour knowing its significance in China. I then added gold as the secondary colour for gold and looking luxurious.
I added elements of blue and green for the gems sapphire and emerald. The sapphire to match the gem on Fulynn Designs’s base design and emerald as a common colour for dragons.
I also changed her eyes to be emerald and more Draconic.
The black is the neutral tone to break up the other colours and as I added elegant of elegance.
In the end, I decided to add sleeves to the design and added a trim of pink maple leaves as a mix of the cherry blossom colour and the leaves to represent my Canadian identity.
For the patterns, I went with popular Chinese cloud design for the collar, for the chest a Chinese circular design, and a Diamond pattern on the dress to represent scales.
I then added accessories to the chest to accentuate them, a chain-like belt on the waist to accentuate the waist, a chain along one of the thighs to bring interest there, and accessories on the sleeves. I also added nice emerald earrings to the design and changed the snake to a dragon.
For the shoes, I chose a Chinese shoe design while designing them as wedges. Initially, I went with the red design but I finished on the branch design as I find it more my style of shoe, cute.

While designing the back, I noticed that the long ponytail will block the back of the dress so I added an extra half-up do hairstyle with a hairpin that is often seen when thinking about Chinese fashion. I changed the pin to gold to match the other accessories.
I also added an actual dragon tail to the back pattern of the dress to really represent dragons.

Hello! Here’s a breakdown of my thought process behind the 2 outfits I designed for 2023. One for my artist self and one got my VTuber persona, Fulynn Designs.
Last year, I designed an outfit for Fulynn. The outfit was to be a mix of Chinese design and western design to represent how I am Chinese-Canadian.
So, this year I wanted to do the same thing and I also decided to design 2 outfits instead of just 1.

For this design I wanted to mix eastern and western design to represent my Chinese-Canadian identity.
This design will not be as detailed as the one for Fulynn Designs. It will be more realistic to what I would wear.
I really liked the high low design so I incorporated it into my design.
I then noticed that in a lot of eastern designs there was a nature pattern happening and to callback to being Canadian, I added that to the design.
Because most of the outfit was the dress, I decided to heighten the shoes to boots and made them wedges to add height and because I prefer wedges for better support.
I then added accessories to the design. A bow in the hair and earrings. These ones are snowflakes with a pearl in front that I found on Pinterest.

Hello! Here’s a breakdown of my thought process behind the 2 outfits I designed for 2023. One for my artist self and one got my VTuber persona, Fulynn Designs.
Last year, I designed an outfit for Fulynn. The outfit was to be a mix of Chinese design and western design to represent how I am Chinese-Canadian.
So, this year I wanted to do the same thing and I also decided to design 2 outfits instead of just 1.
Here is my moodboard for Fulynn:
Looking at VTuber outfits, I noticed that what really draws me to their designs rather than western cartoon designs is that a lot of VTuber outfits are asymmetrical in order to add more details.
With that being said, I knew I wanted to add an element of asymmetrical to my design and still make it a mix of eastern and western design.
I like the idea of 2 layers of a skirt to be able to have the volume of a skirt but still have the comfort of shorts underneath. Which why I took the idea of the Nikki dress up skirt and implemented it into my design.
I knew I needed to leave the skin open for the sapphire that is in Fulynn’s character design so I used the eastern collar designed and added it to a shoal.
I then wanted to add sleeves to the design to show how I am always cold.
I added earrings to the design. These are earrings from Plum Blossoms where they sell clip-on earrings that look elegant. These are called snow drop and I thought they fit the outfit.
The stockings are where I put the asymmetrical design. I decided to have them be different colours and added a little garter belt on 1 leg with bells inspired by another Nikki dress up outfit.
For the shoes, I liked the heel design but I changed it to wedges as I prefer the full support rather than having only 1.
While I was drawing the illustration featuring the outfits, I noticed that there was nothing on the head so I added a headband with a bow for Fulynn.

For the reference sheets I broke it down between the backs, fronts, and sides, then the colour palette. For this design, because of the poofy skirt, the turnaround had to be broken down more sheets rather than being on 1 sheet.
Here is the colour palette where I decided on the colour for the outfit:
I knew I wanted the dress to be red as that is the common holiday colour and a lucky colour in China.
I also wanted to have a Canadian element so I added maple leaves to the shoal and skirt.
I wanted to added details through colour and patterns so I designed the shorts to have stripes and added details to the bodice.

Hello! Here’s a breakdown of the new character design I created for my Chinese hybrid PNGTuber/VTuber Fulynn Designs.
Recently, while drawing Fulynn a couple of times, I noticed that the design I have for her is too complex for me and I often choose to leave out parts of her design to make things easier for myself.
With that being said, I decided to draw her a new design and on top of that, also draw her a new outfit that I could actually potentially wear and/or cosplay if I want to 🤩✨💯
So these are the references I have come up with:
I knew I wanted to draw an outfit I would actually wear, although I also wanted her to wear something Chinese-inspired.
So, I narrowed it down to these references:
Once I had a vision of what I wanted Fulynn to look like, I sketched out her design, did the lineart, and finished it with the base colour;
I kept most of the things the same from my previous design. She still has her antlers, scales, sapphire, choker, top, and shorts.
Because she is based off of Chinese dragons, I removed her wings as most of them do not have wings.
I also drew her in shoes rather than boots. I would more likely wear shoes than combat boots.
After I decided on the colours, I drew out her reference sheets. One is showing details of her clothes and the other one is a turnaround reference sheet;
Here’s an explanation of her clothes:
What she is wearing is a kimono jacket and on it is a mix of maple leaves and cherry blossoms. On the back is a Chinese dragon.
I added an extension to her glasses. On them, is a chain and some strings. The strings represent the whiskers on Chinese dragons.

I have updated my commission prices. I will be trying to refocus on character designing and put less emphasis on brand assets so that way I have more opportunities to work on characters as an aspiring concept character artist.
