As far as I'm aware, owning a computer is just more efficient than buying 7 consoles that you need to replace every other year just so you can play the newest game. If anything, having a console should be more of a sign of the rich and privileged than a computer. Besides you can find tons of computer parts in the garbage because people don't know how to troubleshoot, wipe the hard drive, or do basic maintenance on a computer and just choose to throw it out when it stops working, so you can expect to get half the parts you need for free, and if the parts aren't up to date enough to be used daily you can always have a server that can handle stuff in the background and doesn't need the graphics card (one of the most expensive parts and one of the ones you will most likely have to buy because they're delicate). If you end up not using a computer, keep the parts or sell them individually, if you keep them you can use them in the future and if you sell them you can get a decent price (people are always looking for niche parts to fit their computer cases or are willing to buy lower grade parts for cheaper)
Reasons to get a computer:
Cheaper in the long run (if you're smart about it)
Open up a lot of job opportunities
Modular, and can be upgraded as you please (extra monitors, as many hard drives as your heart desires, endless RAM if you can fit it in there)
Don't require you to buy a new model every time one comes out
Are much more flexible than any console or handheld device
Free 24/7 [Insert favorite multiplayer game here], servers that your friends can join.
You just need to know how to put the dang thing together and use google to look up the things you don't know.
And also be sure to delete all of the dumb stuff Windows will install onto your computer that you will never use. Or just find a decent Linux version instead. I just use windows because I'm lazy.
