Gamora smiled. She made a new friend and didn’t even punch him, which was a huge improvement compared to how she used to meet new people a few years ago. “I think I can find a way to make the rest of the guardians trust you and not just see you as a Nova. They… have an issue with authority.” she didn’t include herself in this, but Gamora definitely had issues with authority before. She was just more… open to listen than the others.
But he was still her friend. That was a nice feeling.
“Of course you did” At the mention of Peter, she couldn’t help but roll her eyes. That wasn’t surprising, Star-Lord probably encountered half of all the Nova Corps in the galaxy. “He’s not bad but he was probably extremely annoying wasn’t he? He was insufferable when I met him. What was it? Theft or public intoxication?”
"Theft. His bail got posted the next morning, though, so it didn’t turn out to be much of anything, in the end.” Unfortunately, this doesn’t fall under the category of super great blackmail material, if Gamora were to happen to be in the market for that. “As the arresting officer, I had to guard his holding cell, and I remember hearing the stupid Piña Colada Song all night. I think he was trying to get under my skin, but honestly, I just found it funny. Points for creativity, you know?” A beat, and then he adds: “And, okay, maybe it was a little annoying.”
After hearing that song about twenty times in a row, at least, any sane person has to acknowledge that.
He laughs.
But, circling back to what she’d said before, about not just seeing him as a Nova:
“Listen, though, if it’d help — I’m stuck in the uniform for a couple of more weeks because of quarantine, but after that, I can definitely ditch it and show up in something a lot less stuffy. I feel kinda like a jerk sometimes walking around in this thing, anyway.”
His face forms something like an exaggerated grimace for effect. What he’s going for here is light, jokey — but he’s also serious.
