You shaved my fur because you promised to keep me warm
You kept me caged because you promised I wouldn’t need to leave
You ripped my claws out because you promised I wouldn’t need them and you shaved down my teeth because you promised you would feed me
I learned every trick you wanted me to learn and I stayed silent when you couldn’t bear to hear me speak
I waited at the door of the cage waiting for you, you made me promise not to escape even if every bone in my body is begging me to leave
But now the cage has rusted, my stomach is growling and -though it’s hard- I’m still waiting
Tomorrow the door will fall apart and my opportunity to leave will never be easier
But once I leave furless, clawless and defanged, how will I survive?
Without you to love, to care for and to protect…to wait for. What is my purpose?
I can hear the rabid animals you’re attempting to train, and I sense your frustration as you struggle to declaw, shave and domesticate them
Why them? I tilt my head and wonder
As I sit, like you told me to
And wait, like you told me to
Because I’m perfect, like you made me.
Im trained, like you trained me
and now I’m cold…like you made me
my hunger grows exponentially, yet I still wait
Even though you never asked me to be, I’m still loyal…like you made me-no matter how much you didn’t want me to be
