Moments between Dr. Robby & Dr. Whitaker The Pitt, S1 & S2
Inspired by this post.
It started out of nowhere. Dennis and Robby were saying goodbye near the ambulance bay after a long and tiring day when Robby drew closer and kissed his forehead. "Sleep tight Whitaker. See you tomorrow."
"B-BYE!" Dennis shouted two seconds too late, frozen in place while Robby had already turned his back and crossed the road, pulling out his earphones to listen to some music on the way home.
Dennis stayed there for he didn't know how long, watching Robby's figure get smaller and smaller as he walked away.
They had just started dating but they had already kissed plenty of times and made out once or twice but it had always been driven by passion and sexual thirst more than anything else.
It had never been this soft and affectionate.
It was the first time Robby had kissed him in such a delicate manner, wihtout any hunger but only with pure affection.
This meant so much to Dennis. It meant that Robby cared for him. It meant that this was more than a casual hook-up.
Dennis found himself melting at the idea of Robby doing it again.
He went home with a stupid smile on his face and kept reliving the memory of Robby kissing his forehead the whole car ride. It earned him a lot of teasing from Trinity.
"You got it bad, dude." She laughed but he ignored her. He was too happy to care at the moment.
--
Then it kind of became an habit.
When Dennis started to sleep over at Robby's, he would wake up with a forehead kiss or if Robby woke up before him, Dennis would join him downstairs for breakfast and Robby would smile at him and kiss his forehead before saying "good morning sleepy head."
Dennis tried not to blush every time it happened. But it never failed to make his heart constrict from happiness and a smile form on his face.
Dennis would be putting away the dishes after dinner and Robby would appear beside him and say "I'll take care of it, sweetheart" and kiss his forehead or after a terrible shift he'd hold Dennis by the back of his neck and kiss his forehead before telling him to go shower while he'd get dinner started.
Robby would kiss his forehead before falling asleep too, wishing him good night while they cuddled in bed.
He'd kiss him when they'd say goodbye or before the start of a shift in the locker room, away from prying eyes.
Dennis got so used to forehead kisses every morning and every night that that one time Robby didn't do it he flipped out.
It had started like any other day, except Robby was a lot more stressed that morning because of a meeting he had later that day with the hospital administration so he decided to leave early to get things sorted out before the start of his shift. So early that Dennis barely took notice of Robby leaving.
That put Dennis in a sore mood all day. Not only did he woke up alone in bed, his boyfriend also didn't kissed him good-bye or made him breakfast. Dennis could only content himself with a post-it note on the fridge door where it was written "love u" in Robby's writing.
Dennis knew he was being dramatic and perhaps a little bratty but he didn't care. He would sulk if he seemed fit. And it seemed fit!
That day, nobody understood why Dr Whitaker, who was usually in a good mood and a very patient man, was snapping at the med students and being harsh towards his colleagues without any particular reason. Even the attending was not safe from Dennis. Actually, it almost looked like he was the main target. If looks could kill, Dr Robby would be 6 feet under ground.
Nobody dared to ask Dr Whitaker what put him in such a mood, although some people had their theories... When asked, Trinity simply shrugged, "No ideia," while shooting Robby a glare implying "you better fix this."
Robby spent all day thinking of what he might have done to make Dennis angry at him and by 7 PM, he still had no fucking clue. He would have to proceed with carefulness if he didn't want to sleep on the couch tonight.
That evening when they got home after a very silent drive where Dennis was clearly giving him the cold shoulder Robby dared to ask, "Baby, did I do something wrong?"
"I don't know, did you?"
Robby rubbed his beard reflecting, "I guess..."
"Oh, so you don't even know what you didn't do."
"Look, I'm sorry-"
"Your apology means nothing if you don't even know what you're apologizing for Michael!"
The older man sighed defeated.
"Can you at least tell me what I did wrong so that I don't make the same mistake again?" He asked desperately, following Dennis down the hallway.
Dennis turned around so fast that Robby worried he got whiplash.
"You want to know what you did, Michael? I'll tell you what you did. You left this morning without a good morning forehead kiss, is what you did!"
"I did kiss you!" Robby countered, "I kissed you as I got out of bed, you were still fast asleep."
"I don't-"
"And I left you a note!"
"Yeah, well-"
"Wait, you mean, you've been in a snappy mood all day because I didn't kiss you good morning?"
"I have not been in a snappy mood."
"Yes, you have."
"Well, next time do wake me up before leaving me with a kiss so I remember not to be mad at you!" Dennis turned his now flushing face away from Robby and crossed his arms. Now thinking about it, his reaction was kind of childish.
Robby smiled and took a few steps closer to his boyfriend. "You're cute when you pout."
Dennis wanted to punch that smile off Robby's face. "I'm not pouting. I'm a 28 year old man. I don't pout."
Robby wrapped his arms around Dennis waist. "I don't know... That looks like a pout." He teased.
"Shut uuuup." Dennis half-whined, annoyed at his boyfriend.
Robby chuckled and kissed his forehead. "I'm sorry sweetheart. I promise next time I'll wake you up before kissing you good-bye in the morning." Robby brushed his nose against Dennis hair and inhaled his marvelous scent. "I missed you, today."
"I was right there next to you all day," Dennis mumbled into his neck.
"No, I missed the real you. The Whitaker that is calm and patient and does not snap at people. That's my job, remember?"
Dennis rolled his eyes but wrapped his arms around Robby's frame and hugged him close.
"I don't like being mad at you."
"I don't like it either."
They stayed like this for a while until Robby asked, "Feeling better?"
"Much better." Dennis smiled. "Now, go make dinner to apologize for this morning."
Robby shook his head in amusement. He did nothing wrong and yet he still had to grovel for forgiveness. "You're lucky that I love you." He said, kissing Dennis again and moving to kitchen to make dinner.
---
Next time it happened, Robby was halfway out the door when Dennis stopped him in his tracks.
"Aren't you forgetting something?" He shouted from the hallway.
Robby checked his pockets. Keys, cellphone, badge. Yep got every thing.
He looked at Dennis with a raised eyebrow. "What?"
Dennis shook his head in disappointment and crossed his arms.
"What? What did I forget?" Robby asked desperately.
"My good-bye kiss!"
Robby quickly walked over to where Dennis was standing and pecked him on the lips. "I'm sorry, baby," he said, already pulling away.
"Not so fast." Dennis held him off by his jacket. "I meant a forehead kiss." He tapped the middle of his forehead with his index finger and looked at Robby with a determined look.
"Oh." Robby smiled, "of course." His lips brushed Dennis forehead to plant a delicate kiss.
"Okay, now you can go," Dennis beamed, letting go of his jacket.
"Almost slept on the couch tonight, huh?"
"Oh you have no idea," Dennis replied. "Good thing this time I was awake to remind you."

guys don't be mean to himmm it's only his 19,721st day on earth 😭😭😭 he literally just got hereeeuuhh 😭😭😭
they need to bring his whimsy back for s3
Two hours into his shift, Dennis notices something is off. He can’t quite place it until Dr. Robby passes by him, and his shoulders feel a phantom hand that never actually lands.
Dr. Robby isn’t touching him.
He tries to catch what he’s done wrong, but nothing comes to mind. Until he sees it.
A small blue ball, resting in Dr. Robby’s hand.
He doesn’t get the chance to ask about it until he happens to catch Robby in the hall, gripping the ball like it’s personally wronged him. “Hey, what’s that?”
Robby glances down and quickly pockets it. He scratches the back of his neck and explains, “Dana gave it to me. Said I get grabby when I’m stressed. Was there something you needed?”
Dennis shakes his head, but really, he needs Robby to start grabbing him again, or he might lose it.
the creature!dennis and his favorite kisses (for the romantic lovers of this au. i got you, besties.)
dennis loved physical touch. but he especially loved affection and kisses he got from robby. here are the seven examples of this:
forehead kisses:
dennis enjoyed forehead because that's how robby would usually put him to sleep. after being tucked in and read a passage from one of robby's many medical journal, robby would usually send dennis to sleep with a gentle kiss to his forehead.
"goodnight, mouse," robby whispered, setting the journal onto the bedside table before leaning down to kiss dennis' forehead, "you'll wake me up if you have nightmares?"
"yes," dennis answered, rubbing his scarred cheek against the soft material of the pillow, "yes, w'ke 'ou... if s'me'ng wrong." the creature nodded, melting when robby leaned down to press a loving kiss to his forehead—his lips not hesitating with fear or disgust when touching one of the seamless scars.
bridge and the tip of his nose kisses:

rural omega dennis secretly signs himself up to be a mail-order bride so he can escape his family, who want to marry him off to an alpha in their town who's known to be physically abusive. dennis doesn't want to marry at all, but he knows he has a better chance of escaping and finding some form of freedom if he's bought by some alpha across the country- at least then he won't have his family so close to him and he'll be harder to find when he runs.
when he gets a call from the service telling him that his profile (which had contained a tolerable photo of him, plus his designation, height, age and his medical history) has been viewed and chosen by alpha michael robinavitch in pittsburgh, he sighs in semi-relief.
pittsburgh is far away from Nebraska, and it's a big city. a small omega like him will be able to easily run away and hide, he hopes. maybe he'll be able to find an omega shelter, where he can give a fake name until he can find a job to support himself. although he's 99% sure that he'll have zero interest in this "michael" who's bought him, he opens the profile anyway.
hmm. okay. the picture staring back at him looks kind, though dennis isn't stupid enough to be so naïve. michael has warm brown eyes, and a neat brown beard to match. he's got crow's feet around his eyes, and he's smiling in a way that seems... safe. though again, dennis is no idiot. it said he was 6'1", much taller than dennis himself, and that he was 50- twice dennis's age.
something about his face seemed open and honest, and genuinely sweet, and dennis cursed himself for even having the smallest thoughts of what it might be like to be held in an embrace by such a warm looking alpha. all the alphas in broken bow were pale and hard, eyes full of cruelty and menace. the omegas of the town were far more likely to feel contact in the way of a sharp slap upside the head, as opposed to a soothing hug or cuddle in a nest.
michael didn't look that way. he looked like the kind of alpha that sad, lonely omegas wrote gas station romance novels about, hoping they might turn up in the night to snatch them away to happiness. but then again, he was probably an older alpha who was in desperate want of a pup or something, and had turned to the mail order service to buy an omega young enough. dennis scowled. he didn't want a baby.
nonetheless, the fact he'd been bought, and the one-way ticket to pittsburgh had given him a lifeline out of Nebraska, and he was taking it. he packed his meagre amount of things under the cover of darkness, and slipped out of the house. he didn't even whisper a sorry to his father as he took their car and sped from the town. the police could find it the next day at the train station- he'd be long gone by then.
the train ride was long, and dennis was shaking slightly. he'd put scent blockers on to hide his anxiety and distress, not wanting any attention from other passengers, and was trying to familiarise himself with the new city he was heading to. luckily, it did seem that there were a few shelters for vulnerable omegas, and he bookmarked their tabs on his phone. he'd cycle through them once he'd escaped from "michael".
the alpha would be meeting him at the station, so dennis knew he'd have to spend at least some time with the man. he just hoped that Michael would be kind like in the pictures, and might not force himself on dennis on their first night together. his hands sweated at the thought, and he rubbed them on his trousers.
he guiltily allowed himself the last pleasure of fantasising that Michael might be nice and sweet, like the novels, and that he'd have a nice scent that was nothing like the bitter tang of broken bow alphas. he imagined a warm, musky spice that might smell of leather, or a deep citrus, the kind of smells that made the omega want to purr and cuddle into. maybe he'd hold dennis close and safe, and tell him that they didn't have to do anything until the omega was ready. maybe he'd even let him make a nest in the way his father never had.
dennis chastised himself for thinking this way. he hated the fact that, at his core, he craved the loving touch of a caring alpha, and yearned for the comfort of having someone who wanted to protect him and love him. he bit the inside of his cheek and tried not to cry. at least here he'd have a chance to run and hide and get a job. his prospects were better here than back home with an alpha he knew would beat him.
pittsburgh arrived before he felt ready. it looked just as big as the the pictures he'd seen online, and he thought about how this was his new "home". he would make it work, michael or no michael. unless something insane happened, within 24 hours he hopefully wouldn't have to think of the alpha who'd bought him at all. he smoothed his scent patches down harder, not taking the chance of his vulnerability being evident.
his heart thudded in his ears as he walked into the bustling entrance hall, looking for the alpha. there was a soothing, fresh scent somewhere in the hall that made his omega wriggle within him excitedly and encouraged him to want to trill, but he didn't let himself get distracted. he needed to find michael.
"dennis? dennis whitaker?"
the voice came from behind him, and was deep and rich, almost rumbling out of the man's chest. dennis snapped around, moment of truth awaiting him.
and there was michael. he looked taller than his profile had said, yet his figure wasn't imposing. his hands were clasped almost nervously in front of him, and his eyes truly were warm, the brown sparkling in the station lights. he was wearing glasses, which he hadn't been in the profile, and dennis's stomach flipped at the sight. he also wore a tan coloured jacket which made him look sturdy, reliable... safe. the scent dennis had smelt was coming from him, no scent blocking patches in sight.
"i- uh, I mean, yes, I am. dennis, that is. I'm dennis."
the alpha smiled and it spread through his whole face, scent smelling welcoming and happy, not things dennis had much experience with. he tried to stop himself from smiling stupidly and obeying his omega, who seemed to want to get closer to the man to bask in the scent. not yet, not yet, he didn't know this man. he too might hurt dennis.
"I'm glad to meet you, dennis. you're a very beautiful young man, I hope you don't mind me saying. I hope your journey was okay- from Nebraska, was it?"
dennis was taken aback. he blushed at the compliment, far more used to being called pasty and thin than beautiful. michael still hadn't made any move to touch or scruff or claim him either, seemingly waiting for the omega to make the first move.
"oh, ah, thank you... you- I mean, you're very... nice to look at too. like, I like how you look. umm. yeah. yes, it's Nebraska. and it was... fine, I suppose?"
dennis was internally kicking himself. one smell of the alpha who he'd technically married and he was stuttering and stumbling over his words, blushing so red he looked like a goddamn tomato.
the alpha laughed kindly and his eyes crinkled more behind his glasses. dennis's omega tried to urge him forward again, into the solid chest and safe scent. fuck, this wasn't how it was supposed to go.
"well," michael laughed softly, "I'm happy im to your liking, dennis, and that the journey was okay. you're probably hungry though, and I hate the thought of any omega looking to me for safety and love to have to put up with that. it's not right. there's a cozy restaurant down the street that's open late, if you'd like that? I figured it might be nice to get to know each other outside of my house, so there's less pressure?"
immediately offering to feed him? *and* in a public place so he would feel more comfortable and they could actually talk? oh, dennis was in trouble. in broken bow, omegas did all the cooking and then ate last, surviving off the scraps the alphas left behind. michael seemed to like the idea of him being full though (and god, when was the last time he'd been allowed a full belly?), and dennis inched closer.
"that's... yeah, thats okay with me, michael. I'd like to get to know you too."
dennis smiled shyly at the older alpha and michael blushed, which in turn had the omega blushing too.
"that's great, let's go now- theyve got a pretty wide range of foods, so there should be something you'll like."
dennis bit his tongue and resisted from telling the alpha (*his* alpha?) that he would eat anything put in front of him.
"oh- and let me take your bag. omegas shouldn't have to carry things like that themselves."
dennis fought back an embarrassingly besotted purr from escaping his throat. robby took his case in one hand like it weighed nothing, and then reached out his free hand for dennis to hold. dennis hesitated slightly, and then took it. it was warm and sturdy, and he could smell the alphas scent stronger now- and he wanted it all over him, quite frankly.
"oh, and dennis, you should call me robby. no one really calls me michael. you can call me alpha if you want, but there's no pressure. we don't know each other that well yet, so it's okay to wait. I've got, um. nesting materials, too. obviously I didnt really know what you'd like, so I've picked up quite a few. hopefully there'll be some blankets and pillows you'll take a liking too."
food, courtesy, and now *nesting materials*? was the alpha trying to kill him? and robby... the name suited him- calm and friendly. he held robby's hand tighter and trilled very quietly. the alpha heard it anyway, and rumbled back. maybe dennis would wait *48* hours before he decided to run away... for now, robby seemed like someone worth getting to know...
Thinking about this again, imagine they just started dating keeping it private:
Robby in his chair : hey pup we're doing some paperwork update and we need a copy of your birth certificate for that
Whitaker: oh I was delivered here my family was passing through and had to make an emergency stop cause I decided to come out early, you should be able to pull it up on the computer
Robby: oh that's perfect let me jus-
Whitaker: yeah it was like destiny to come back don't you think?
Robby: ...
Dennis notices him freeze while staring at the computer so he leans in and sees " Michael robinavitch" as the doctor in charge of delivery
Whitaker: holy shit
this was his canon speech bubble actually
