Andres sighed heavily, as though he were so put upon. It was all in jest, though. He didnât consider himself much of a talker, in his day to day, but in private. If he likes you, he can be persuaded. Erenâs pretty persuasive.Â
âItâs not changing from the last time I told it. Honest. If my sister tells you otherwise, sheâs a liar.â Mostly. Andres might be making himself sound a bit cooler when he tells Eren some of his stories. Sitting up and leaning his elbows onto his legs, arms resting in front of him, he regards the picture on the screen, of a much younger, scrappier looking Andres, grinning at the camera with his left arm in a sling, a couple bruises still littering his skin. Has Eren actually seen this picture before? He canât remember.
He was nineteen in the picture. Maybe twenty. He explains, again, the way the pack used to be, the way alphas used to be allowed to conduct themselves. Thisâll be the first retelling he admits to being more of a self righteous little asshole than some badass with something to prove. He spares Eren the worst details. Even if heâs a medic. Sometimes thinking about it would gross Andres out, and it was his shoulder.Â
âAnd. Yeah. Nothing they could really do, so I had the sling for a little bit. I have no excuse for the haircut, though. That...was a choice.â He laughed looking at the picture, very pointedly judging the mop of curls on his head. It was a tragedy, honestly.Â

Expression quirking into a frown, a less than common expression for it to hold, Andres considered the other. He didnât really have an opinion one way or the other about Will. The same could not be said of the omega, whoâd never really done a great job hiding his disdain for the other. If he even tried at all. Still, the other was his packmate, and Andres didnât just...shut out his pack. And, Christ, if anyone tested that rule, it would be Will. At first, Andres had chalked it up to a possible dislike for alphas as a whole. He and Will didnât interact much at all, and maybe heâd just missed it before. But it felt...different. In a way he couldnât quite put his finger on.Â
âYâknow. I would think youâre too old for those kind of theatrics.â He spoke softly, his good eye trained on the other, gaze more intense than his words. Let the record show he was trying not to get annoyed. âBut I guess youâre just full of surprises.â

"I tried dating this one guy once. I kinda ended up being the asshole there. We weren't courting or anything, nothing serious like that. But. I was just dating him to pass the time. And it helped get my mom off my back, y'know? He didn't like that. He didn't like a lot of things about me, to be fair. Said I was too quiet, I was afraid of being open, all that fun stuff. Ultimately he said it was pretty obvious we wanted different things, and kicked me out and made me walk home. I kinda deserved it. I think he still has me blocked."

"We didn't want the same things. I wanted a partner. They wanted a status symbol. I'm not some trophy to be won and paraded around. I wanted what my parents had, that sort of love and mutual respect you get when both parties don't see themselves as half, but as full people coming together. My mom said she's gonna love him forever, even after losing him and re-mating. She said they gave their hearts to each other, and she'll have his for the rest of her life. That's the level of love and care I was after. It's...not the easiest to find people like that. You can, ah, sum up most of my relationships like that. At the end of the day, I don't care about exclusivity or submission or obedience or whatever. I care about being seen as more than something to complete someone. I look to complement."

âWilliam! Hey! Hi! Perfect timing!â This was literally his bookstore. Would bad timing have even been possible? Doesnât matter. âOkay. So. One of the uh-- um--â They snapped their fingers for a moment, tunnel vision for this little mission theyâd been sent on making their words fall all over each other before they could even get them out.Â
âOne of the kids I look after. Right. She loves books. Loves them. Itâs so weird to me because, like, I wasnât much of a reader at her age, and-- Anyway. Problem being, her mom, like, will not take two seconds to even listen to what she wants to read and is giving her, like, fairy tales or whatever. She hates them. Sci fi? That isnât, like, too heavy for a preteen? Help? Fantasyâs cool too, but, like. No royalty stories. I was specifically told nothing about princesses and queens or whatever. Like I said, I wasnât...really much of a reader. I have no idea what Iâm doing.â

ââThis sounds weird.â What a great way to start any encounter, right? âOkay. But. Promise, Iâm not weird. Do you want a free macchiato? I ordered this with coconut milk, but they put almond milk in it. I donât wanna make a scene, but I literally canât drink this.â Javier motioned towards them with the offending drink, a couple of napkins serving as an extra barrier between their hand and the cup, like theyâd burst into flames if they so much as accidentally got it on them.

âOh, I... My bad. One of the betas whose kids I look after thought giving an eight year old access to glitter was a great idea.â Which was about as close to properly apologizing for probably getting the stuff all over the other as Javi was going to get. Theyâd been fairly sure thereâd been no one that close to them when theyâd attempted to shake some of it off, but that assumption was not quite so accurate, apparently.

It was hot â downright sweltering, really. Â Which was absolutely absurd given the minute differences between today and yesterday. Nothing drastic had happened with the weather, the ac at home and work still functioned, and he was dressed in his usual attire.
So what in godâs name had changed? What was he missing here? Why the hell was it so goddamn hot?
Similar inquiries swarmed his mind as he remained slumped up front; overheated and miserable. The entirety of his upper half leaned over the raised desk. Arms splayed out for optimal coolness, and both sides of his cheeks were squished against chilled cans of soda. Hell, he even had a bag of ice laid on the back of his neck; small trickles of condensation be damned.
The chime that came from the front door drew out a sullen groan rather than a half-assed greeting. âDo me a favor and phone the fire department âcause Iâm like ninety-nine percent sure Iâm meltinâ like the Witch of the West.â
To say Javier was having a bad day would be an...oversimplification. As if it wasnât bad enough that their usual shoes had finally started splitting on the sides, the rubber sole coming ever so slightly away from the cloth material. No, then their aux cord had to get a short, resulting in ugly static every time they tried to listen to anything on their phone. And then. Ugh. Their car was making that god awful rattling noise again, and theyâd already tried ignoring it. Theyâd have to get it looked at.Â
Pulling into the parking lot, Javier went inside the shop looking for Lawrence. They didnât know the other well, despite the two of them being in the same pack. Thereâd really been no reason to be buddy buddy with the other, especially given Javiâs usual avoidance of alphas, not so much out of discomfort as out of some weird form of defiance .
Hearing the other complain, the omega scanned him quickly, and wrinkled their nose. Gross. âYou look like shit.â They said bluntly, not even sure if there was a nice way to put it. âHave you seen a medic? You might be getting sick or something.â

special delivery for @cfalphasâ
Sitting there in a booth looking out at the street she had invited Andres to dine with her, to have a coffee or tea whichever they preferred. It was good to cultivate positive relationships outside the pack to protect the pack and the work she did wasnât for herself ( even if it could appear so ) and was done for the sake of the head alpha of her pack. She glanced at her watch and then to the street awaiting the arrival of the head alpha of the whisper forest pack. she knew of andres fame, what earned them a blind eye and she respected the move and how they ran their pack. âAndresâ She nodded with a smile upon catching sight of the other gesturing to the seat opposite her in the other part of the booth.
Andres knew the importance of connections. Theyâd mostly learned as they went, having almost totally uprooted and changed how their pack operated, but this had been one of the few lessons theyâd gleaned from their predecessor. As such, they tried to at least know of the other head alphas. Dracul wasnât the most social, which Andres didnât much fault him for. This did, however, mean they didnât feel on quite as solid footing with the Dark Raven pack. So when Draculâs advisor had invited him out, it was perfect. Stressing the possibility of being too early --a bad habit they never could quite shake-- had lead to them being a bit behind schedule --another bad habit. It was only by a few moments, but. Still.Â
Hearing their name, they tilted their head in her direction, smiling back at her. âNuray. Itâs good to meet you. Er, outside of all the pomp and circumstance.â Grabbing the back of the booth, they slid into the seat sheâd gestured to, pushing their hair out of their face more out of habit than out of necessity. âSorry to keep you waiting. Itâs not exactly flattering to admit timekeepingâs a bit out of my depth, but.â They chuckled, shrugging.

Heâs anxious about the whole event. The symbolism of it all is important and so is mourning the fallen ones - their people, regardless of pack. Elijah, however, feels the pressure from all sides. The pressure from this new law that forces them into something not all are necessarily comfortable with, a law that makes something otherwise natural to them a little more forced. Itâs not that he doesnât think itâll work, he just hopes it works well enough that several arenât unhappy with who they choose. Thereâs also the pressure of this event as a whole, the pressure to be around each other and relax during times when relaxing is easier said than done. The Whisper Forestâs second in command is engrossed in his own thoughts when he notices someone standing beside him and steps back. âShit, sorry. Iâm blocking you.â He offers a small lopsided smile, stepping aside. âMy mind was elsewhere.â

If Andres would admit to an Achilles heel, it would be formal events. Meetings were no problem. He didnât even entirely mind resolving issues brought to him personally. For all intents and purposes, heâd really grown into his role. But formal events? Eugh. Heâd never get this down. And this one was unlike any heâd attended before. He was no stranger to funerals. But this. This was mourning the loss of an entire pack, not to mention that they were all also likely still reeling from the recent proclamation. Andres himself had been mated for some time now, but he could only imagine what it would have been like to be ordered to court. With all of this in mind, he had been dreading this event more than all the others, from the moment it was announced.Â
He wonât claim to be all knowing, but given his own anxieties about tonight, itâs not hard to see Elijah is distracted. Approaching him, the assumption is confirmed when the other doesnât regard him at all for a moment. âYouâre fine. Looked like you had a lot on your mind, thatâs all. Youâre not hurting my feelings keeping me from getting in there.â

Event: The Ball Location: The Bar Open!
Conal had given his mate a lingering kiss to the corner of his mouth, their bodies close, a look passing between them. Summer sky blue met cold steel blue and Conal mumbled something against his mates throat that had him smirking.Â
They broke then, Drac heading of to deal with the Elders and Conal, watching him go with a fond smile.Â
Then, Conal turned to the bar, smiling across the counter and ordering himself a Bourbon on the Rocks. He spent the next few moments glancing out around the crowd to see if he could find someone he knew, though by the time the drink was pressed into his hand, he wasnât having much luck.
Sipping slowly at the whiskey, Conal felt a nudge at his elbow and so, he glanced down and lowered the glass, smiling gently â-Plenty of champagne to go around.â he teased their eagerness with a chuckle. âIf you like that sort of thing, that is.â
Javier just happened to catch sight of one of their half siblings near the bar, not thinking much of it until they followed his gaze to the champagne.Â
âNope. No. Absolutely not. I will tell your mom if you donât get away from there.â They said, all but bounding over to shoo him away. Their own mother didnât really care if the older kids drank, but their fatherâs mate was a lot stricter, part of the reason Javi didnât hang around them very much.Â
Shaking their head as he sulked off, they finally regarded their second in command directly. âEven when Iâm not on babysitting duty, I still get stuck on babysitting duty. Fun times all around.â

having escaped two alphas whoâd originally been fighting for her attention and soon began a stare down of supposed dominance over her head, the omega murmured an excuse before crossing through throngs of people in search of safety. at the sight of a familiar face, she moved toward them quickly. âhi there stranger!â without so much of a pause to wait for any acknowledgement to her greeting, mila drew the other in for a hug. âyouâre unknowingly saving me from a world of discomfort, so thank you.â
Andres was no stranger to being sought out, especially when it came to omegas, even before becoming Head Alpha. But, man, did the title help. Other alphas, mostly the younger ones but the older ones could be just as ridiculous, were much more likely to back down in his presence. Turning his head to put her in the field of his good eye, he chuckled at her thanks. âAlways happy to help. Whatâs up? Anything you need me to help with?â This is hardly the place and time to be making omegas uncomfortable. Heâs got no problem throwing his weight around.

Sheâs angry about it all, isnât sure what to feel if not anger. The Elders want whatâs best for their kind, itâs what sheâs always been told and what sheâs always believed in - but what the fuck? No matter how many people try to tell her that this is just a new spin to the way things have always been, Clover just canât swallow it. It feels wrong, if you ask her - even if it isnât. No matter how much she wishes to honor the Royal Pack, she canât help the small voice in the back of her mind telling her this ball is just an attempt at distracting them all from whatâs going on, of making them feel like maybe it should be their new normal. âWhat?â She grumpily asks the person she catches looking at her, deadpanning as she looks at them. âYou donât buy this shit, do you?â
open event starter - feel free to assume connections. ( @lycanbanestartâ )
It was difficult to know which shit the other was talking about, but Javi was inclined to agree either way. The ball felt...stilted. A half hearted attempt to raise spirits. And the arrangements, well. They felt suffocating. Mating hadnât even been in their life plan at all, but. That hardly seemed to matter to the Elders. How did they even figure the arrangements? Names in a hat? It felt as planned out as pulling names from a hat. âI doubt anyoneâs buying this. But...some people need the distraction, I guess. Iâm just stoked Iâm not stuck on babysitting duty. Again. Iâll take my positives where I can. We all will, apparently.â
