lily caught the bag of sweet popcorn as it was thrown over in her direction, and positioned herself comfortably against the headboard of her bed, opening the bag when she was satisfied with her position. “ chocolate ! that’s an excellent idea, genius even ! ” she was overexaggerating, but she had a tendency to do so when she got excited. “ lily wasn’t usually all that open of a person when it came to strangers, but she was grateful to have amelia for a roommate, because she was easy to get along with and respectful of boundaries and privacy, as well as a lot of fun. “ oh don’t get me started. this place is so nice, but i want to see the outside world, too. ”

“I keep telling people I’m a genius, they never listen.” A joke said in her usual blasé tone. She could admit what she was good at, but she’d also admit what she wasn’t great at - and a genius she was not. Especially not when they were in a building with literal geniuses. “Right? It’s not the worst place to stay but... I’m sort of missing the outside and getting to walk around. Take pictures of everything, capture moments that won’t happen again - there’s less to work with here.”

Lilith listened to Amelia’s story, amazed by how much it mimicked her own. “I can understand that all too well. Instead of a cookie jar, mine was that my imaginary friend in the woods turned out to be a very real person who taught me most of what I needed to know to become a proper spellcaster.” Lilith replied, raising her fingers with a flourish while dark tendrils of magical energy swirled around her fingers. “I am sorry you never got to know your birth parents. For what it’s worth, it might be for the best. Somedays I wish I’d never met mine.” Maybe it Amelia’s general affect or the situation at hand, but Lilith was more than a little thrilled to have found someone who seemed to understand her and come from a similar background. She hadn’t realized how much she’d yearned for that connection until someone gave the opportunity for her to make one.

“I’m sorry for you too. I guess we’re all a pretty sorry lot here, aren’t we?” she joked, reaching for the bottle of whiskey and chuckling a she took a sip at Amelia’s remark about parentage. “God knows they want us to be.” she muttered, staring at the bottle for a moment before turning her gaze back to the other. “I, um…Let’s just say my mother is someone who would not be welcomed here. She’s probably what most would consider a ‘bad guy’, which isn’t a wrong assertion. Plainly, she sucks. A lot. However, it does make me feel like a sitting duck and I can’t decide whether I should be upfront about my parentage or not.”

“At least you had someone to teach you. Can’t imagine spellcasting is a... learn as you go thing.” She couldn’t say she knew anything about it, but if a literal spell had to be cast, it seemed like something that would be next to impossible to figure out without someone showing you the ropes. Shaking her head at the words, she offered the other a small smile, thinking over what her next words should be. “It’s okay. Other than a little curiosity over if they had any sort of powers, I can’t say I missed them too much. No point dwelling on what you can’t change. I’m sorry your’s weren’t who you wanted them to be.” She was certain birth parents were always a ‘what if’ for kids who had no idea about them, but somehow living with a what if - seemed easier than living with the knowledge that they didn’t match up to what you dreamt up. 

“You know, just because your mother may not necessarily be accepted around here doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be. The world would be a really messed up place, if you never let people be better than their parents were.”

“ I fear I may have reached the limits of my research from this tower. ” Gawain admitted. Most of the books, he’s already read. There were only a few left that his hands, eyes, have yet to be acquainted with. Of course there could still be more helpful tomes not contained in this library, personal pages from diaries kept, ledgers hidden, though the adopted son of the Sorcerer Supreme and a ruler of the Dark Dimension have yet found the right pretense to be made privy to such things. Hopefully, it would never come to that. “ A lot of them are familiar titles from where and when I came from, most encyclopedias and dictionaries, a few novels and fiction, though to be fair, I have read a lot from different times and places, both mundane literature and those of otherworldly dimensions, so I may not be as precise as to which endured over time and which I simply managed to salvage from other alternate pasts. ”   

There was a part of him that wanted to question the ‘when and where’ part of his statement, but it seemed as though it would only add to his current headache and that was the last thing that he happened to need. Instead he simply nodded content to move past it. “If you’ve happened to read a lot, anything you’d recommend to read while we’re here? So there would at least be one highlight to the whole ordeal.”

Sahira shook her head, smiling. She wondered if she was actually a member of society herself. The way the public, her public, viewed her, the adopted daughter of two Captain Marvels, it was almost always from a distance, as if she were from thousands of worlds away. “ Yep… Outsiders, technically outside the law… ” Then she remembered the many warnings her parents have told her, including one that she found out was from someone else’s great uncle. “ …but with great power… As dumb as their laws can be, we should at least respect them… ” She feigned a cough, uncertain now if that was a more serious turn for their conversation, if she was ready to go down that road again, or if they needed to have something lighter to talk about. Sahira decided to go with the last part. “ Tell me, do Kryptonians ever get drunk? ” 

“With great power... What?” She prompted, though she was certain she could guess the essence of what the other was going to say. After all, when she’d been sat down and told about who her father was, and therefore what she could do - her parents had made a point of instilling that she had to be responsible, that just because they could do things others couldn’t, didn’t mean they could use that to get ahead or beat others down - she was sure anyone with powers had been sat down and given that lecture. “Depends.” She hummed at the question.  “If we’re talking about right now, no - doesn’t matter how many of those I drink, nothing would happen. But there’s ways for it to happen, not easy ones though which sort of sucks. I did hear they have like... alien alcohol here, sort of hoping I can find that to see if it’s strong enough to have an effect - otherwise I’ll just be the best bartender. Live vicariously through everyone else getting drunk.”

A snicker escaped Sahira’s lips prompting her to lower her head as she crossed her arms and pretended it was nothing more than a sneeze or a cough. The other girl was speaking through to her. They were on the same boat. Superpowered parents and their borderline control freak issues dressed up as overprotectiveness… It’s a fine line to toe, and often it’s hard not to slip up. Sahira at least understood that. “ Not as easy to become a legacy as others would like to think… ” At the question, she balled up her fist and with a smile showed her why she was a little hesitant to try: Making her fist glow with cosmic energy. She at least offered her a smile. “ I have something else I like to shoot. ” Turning it off, as if there was a switch in her head, she heaved a lonely sigh, took a drink out of her water bottle, and continued to watch. “ I can watch, though. It’ll be a good break for me, I think. ” 

“You mean you can’t claim you’re a legacy without backing it up? Colour me surprised.” Finishing with a wink on the off chance the tone wouldn’t give away she was joking. Everyone there seemed like they’d have enough pressure on their shoulders to be as heroic as their parents, and that would be a lot to deal with for anyone. Glancing over at the other, she couldn’t keep the intrigue off her face. “I can see how that would be a little more fun.” Making sure the bow was in the right place, she reached behind her to take an arrow from the quiver. “It’s too bad the tower’s close to a city and not the beach, I think we could all use some time just soaking up the sun and relaxing, instead of being crowded together to the point it’s only a matter of time before someone snaps.”

The boy smiled and shook his head, golden locks moving along a little. ❛ Never. Not even if I think about it — that’s the point of remembering, ❜ he grinned. He hadn’t know the girl for long — only a few minutes, really —, but it had been enough to know he liked her. ❛ Got it! ❜ Felix made himself more comfortable, perching on a vacant spot on the kitchen counter. His eyes stayed on what Harper was doing, happy to see all the caramel. ❛ So we should all blame you then, ❜ he joked. ❛ Where’s your dad from? ❜ He had met some people from different planets and had always thought it was so cool to be a literal alien. The cocktail now in his hands, he moved it to his lips, taking a sip and shrugging at the question. ❛ I’m doing okay. Just waiting until they sort it all out. ❜ He knew that not many of the other kids were as optimistic as him. ❛ You? Have you seen your folks? — This is really good, by the way. Thanks. ❜

“So I should always assume you’re thinking of insulting me now? Got it.” She figured it was safe to joke about, he didn’t seem like someone who was taking the words too seriously - which hopefully meant he wouldn’t take anything personally. It was a trait she happened to seek out at that point. While others were understandably overthinking things, she preferred to hit pause on anything serious and stay in the shallow end. “I can take the blame, I’m a big girl. Just don’t insult my hair, I’ll cry.” Taking the drink she’d made early for herself, she took a sip before answering the question. “Krypton. But seems like a place around half the people here don’t know of.” Which stood to reason since their worlds or universes - she honestly couldn’t work out the right term- had been mashed together without much warning. “A little dash of looking on the bright side? I think I like you.” Shaking her head at the question, she took another sip before answering. “Been avoiding that at all costs really, I think I’ve reached my weird quota for a while and talking to them seems weird. Have you seen your’s? You don’t need to say thanks, making them provides the perfect distraction.”

“ it’s understandable. i feel exactly the same way. after all if i can’t trust your fashion opinions how am i expected to ever trust a drink that you’ve made for me ? ” she questioned, trying hard to keep in the laugh that was threatening to escape at the lighthearted conversation. it made things feel normal, like they weren’t all currently stuck in the past with younger versions of their parents. “ a no lecture rule, i like the sound of that. but let it be known that i am not going to be the one who tells the adults that. oh that definitely seems fair, they deserve a good talking to, too. ” she nodded. “ i haven’t seen a single dinosaur yet, so i’m pretty disappointed so far. ” she joked, taking a sip of the drink before pulling a slight face. “ wow. that’s definitely strong, but that’s what we were going for. i like it, once you get past the initial shock. ”

“My fashion sense is great, all the sixties media says so.” Or at least she was fairly certain that’s when the tie-dye trend started, even if it wasn’t exactly when it hit it’s peak - she didn’t need to fact check herself for the benefit of a joke. “Don’t worry, I have no problem telling them. Well... as long as mine don’t happen to be around. It come back to bite you later if your family think you’re the purest.” Given her parent’s nature or powers depending on who she happened to be talking about, they both had ways of knowing everything you did - no matter how much you tried to hide it. But she had to imagine not everyone was in the same boat. “Dinosaur? Seems a little meh, Jurassic Park taught me they’re a no.” She mused, pushing herself up onto the counter. “Is it too strong? I’m not the best judge.”

Sahira could dodge a lot of things but that joke came out of nowhere for her. It wasn’t something she had expected, so the laughter that came out of her lips were more genuine than polite. The alcohol helped, too. Probably. “ Well, if there’s a silver lining to it all, I guess it’d be that we met each other. ” She offered her a warm smile and a nod before placing the rim of the glass carefully against her lips, as if trying to hide behind it, her cheeks starting to grow red. “ Met new friends… That sort of thing. ”

Giggling at the other’s words, she shook her head. “Now I feel a little guilty for saying the bright side is getting to do whatever we want. If you’re not technically a member of society yet, they can’t expect you to follow dumb laws can they?” A stupid comment, but it wasn’t as though they were talking about something serious. Or they were in essence, but the seriousness was starting to get to people - why not find some fun in the current situation.

“Something like that” she said as she placed her book on the table in front of them while she looked at the boy and smiled slightly at him. Knowing this was her brothers roommate she slightly sighed, “Your my brothers roommate right, but that’s fun for you” she said as she rolled her eyes knowing how annoying her step-bother can be. “It just makes you forget your problems for a while, but then after you still have to deal with them.”

“There’s worse people than Liam.” He hummed. Which was true, the fact Liam seemed to want to keep to himself too made things that much easier. So did the fact he already knew Liam, things seemed to be complicated for the roommates who’d never even heard of each other before hand. “All we need is to forget or ignore things until we get home, which hopefully isn’t too far away.”

There was no disagreement from Gawain on the matter. It has been quite the exhausting week for a lot of them, if not most. “ I’m a little stuck at the moment, ” he gestured to his desk drowning in piles and mountains of paper and books. To say that they appeared to be less than clutter would be the understatement of the year. Or decade even. “ Something familiar? A lost memory? A lingering feeling? ” His curiosity began to grow, though it was most likely just him trying to procrastinate. Sorcerer or not, even Gawain can afford certain distractions. He deserves it. Somewhat.

Nodding in understanding, it seemed to be a place a few people were in - at least the ones who were taking a more proactive role in getting them back to their own time. It wasn’t an unusual site to see someone partying, next to someone drowning in books - everyone seemed to have a different coping mechanism, and some of those tended to clash. “Need a hand?” He was fairly certain he wasn’t in the right headspace to be too much help, but it seemed like something he should offer. “Something familiar. Figure there’s got to be something around here that’s still around in the future. Books seem like the obvious thing you’d keep around, seemed best to start here.”

Gawain simply nods at the question, responding to it like how a professor would to a student’s question. He did not know any other way. It had always been his way. “Yes, The Dark Dimension, also known as the Darkforce Dimension, the Hell Dimension, or simply Hell. It’s a vast dimension in the Multiverse ruled by the Dread Dormammu, actually a strange and hostile universe, an amalgamation of itself and all other dimensions Dormammu had conquered and absorbed into it.” He offered a smile, as if to assuage her doubt and fears. “My adoptive mother rule it from time to time.” Then a shrug, an attempt to not make a big deal out of that ever-changing fact. When Multiverses and other realms are concerned, things are never as constant or as linear as logic would hope for them to be. 

A smile streaked across Gawain’s lips when she agreed with his views on Amelia Earhart, though his interest and curiosity were more piqued by the book in question. “Ah, Orgullo y Prejuicio.” Gawain’s accent was flawless, a combination of his traditional study and more mystical enhancements. “It’s a very good book.”

Blinking as he spoke, she was almost waiting for the ‘just kidding’ at the end, but she couldn’t make out any subtle changes in his facial expression that would say he wasn’t being completely truthful. Humming at the end, she pursed her lips, before shrugging. “This seems to pale in comparison to that. But I can’t say I’ve ever met someone who’s parent rules a dimension, seems like best claim to fame I’ve heard around here. Wait... Does that mean you have some title we’re supposed to call you? Because I wouldn’t want to be rude and take away someone’s history.” It wasn’t as though she had any idea how other dimensions ran, she’d never paid her own much thought until a couple of weeks ago. 

“ You’ve read it?” Surprise evident in the words, if not in the way her brow rose. “Usually people give you odd looks when you say you read it in a foreign language for fun.  I will gladly take having a few more people around who happen to enjoy it.”

A small smile formed on Sahira’s lips at the mention of covering bases. As much as her mothers prepared her for the worst, prepared themselves for the worst, they often just relied on the same tricks of taking the beating and returning it to their foes tenfold. Truth be told, Sahira has relied on those same tricks as well. Over and over again. Nature and nurture perhaps. “ Your parents taught you? ” The words crawled out of her lips absentmindedly as she began to look the other girl over for an extra bow. “ Sounds fun but I’ve never really held a bow in my life. ” At least not when it mattered.

Nodding at a question, the ghost of a smile flickered over her face. It seemed bittersweet at that point to think of her parents teaching her as she grew up, considering presently they knew nothing about her - beside her name. That was a boat everyone was in, so she made no effort to explain the expression on her face, before shaking it off and putting an actual smile back on her face. “Yeah, it’s sort of their thing - I think it was meant partly as a bonding exercise and partly to make sure I could handle myself.” Not that she’d exactly fell into the same life her parents had, their current situation was the closest to crazy she’d ever got. “Did you ever want to try?”

“Considering Stark’s reputation, I think it’s safe to say one of them had to be on purpose. What that purpose is, though, I shudder at the thought.” she teased in response, thankful to have found someone with a bit of a sense of humor around here.

“Ooh, then why don’t you? Taking things from other people can be so much fun.” Lilith replied, quirking a brow, “I do have to ask…How does that work? You being able to see something and take it? I mean, I’m that way when it comes to my romantic conquests, but I feel that this requires a different technique.” Lilith was indeed curious, though for varied reasons, both selfish and unselfish. “Hmm…I’d say it is about on-par with this. Then again, I suppose it depends on how you feel about dealing with magic-related shenanigans.” The witch was taken aback when the other returned the question, her surprise evident on her face for a brief moment. However, it passed as quickly as it came, and she replied, “If we’re being honest, I’m…I’ve been better? Let’s just say my parent isn’t exactly a Star-Spangled hero or anything.”

“I feel like plenty of people around would find that the opposite of fun, but technically, we’re all just taking it from Mr Stark, so where’s the crime in taking it?” She mused with a smirk, before looking over at the table once more to see what was there, before focusing on a bottle of whisky. “Should I give people a warning about romantic conquests.” She quipped, only turning around once the bottle had crossed the room into her hand. Pausing at the question, she gave a shrug. “Telekinesis -  I can’t say I know exactly how it works. No idea who my birth parents were to ask if it was a family thing, so it was trial and error for me. Honestly I thought as a kid everyone could get the cookie jar down from wherever it was store - apparently my parents thought I was an expert climber who could get anywhere in the house.” She was sure it had come as a surprise to her parents, but they’d never made her feel like the oddball for it. 

“I’m sorry.” The response being the only one to someone saying they’d been better. It wasn’t surprising, but that did nothing to negate the fact she wanted people to be as okay as they possibly could be. “So not a Rogers, which I’m glad about, would feel pretty offended if they hid one of their lot from me. Nobody’s their parents though are they?”

Liam hadn’t been looking for company when he took solace at the library, but there were worse ones than Amelia Barton. He closed the book and offered the woman a crooked smile. ❛ Just trying to get away from all the craziness. ❜ He had his powers under control more or less, but that many powered people with different energy signature (some he hadn’t encountered yet) and the stress of the situation made it a little harder than normal. ❛ I guess better myself is just a bonus. ❜ Though he hardly ever saw reading as that. ❛ How about you? Just dropping that? ❜ He asked, nodding toward the book she’d been holding.

“I think you might need to break out for that one.” They couldn’t escape the craziness of being in a completely different time, and there were people around who seemed to be handling that worse than others. While she couldn't blame them for finding their current situation difficult, she could blame them for the fact they seemed to use distractions to handle thing - distractions that were disturbing to others. “Switching it.” She nodded, gesturing around them. “Figured might as well make use of the books while everyone else seems focused on draining every drop of liquor in the place. When your world is crazy, why not borrow someone else’s?”

Smirk appeared as his little brother turned down his offer; no surprise there. ❛ You know, every time you do something like this you hurt and disappoint me. How dare you turn me into a failure of an older brother? ❜ He was being dramatic, of course. Truth was he had been incredibly relieved to have arrived at the past with his siblings, at least they were together. And he also felt the need to protect them. ❛ Dad, as in the guy who has no idea who we are? ❜ He asked with a quirked eyebrow. The whole thing left him with mixed feeling, there was a curiosity to get to know the younger version of his parents, but then he didn’t know how he’d feel to be faced with their indifference. ❛ Sure, ❜ he replied after a beat, shrugging casually. ❛ Have you seen him? ❜

“One of us had to be the one who wasn’t so into parties, didn’t seem like you or Nat would give those up, so it had to be my role. You should be thanking me.” He finished with his usual sigh, as though it was some sort of sacrifice for him - and not just a difference in what they happened to enjoy. “That would be the one.” He nodded, failing to acknowledge just how strange that sentence was. “If we ask now when he’s alone, there’s a chance he might not think to ask mom - and I’m assuming even younger she’d have some ideas about how we should behave or where to go. I’m sure it’s weird for him too, might not want us around - why can’t we take advantage of it?” That, and he didn’t particularly want to have to talk to either of their parents seriously - that would be more than he could handle. “Not yet, but I’m sure he won’t be too hard to find. Or if we can’t - messing something up in the lab always had him running in.”

❛ I’m sorry, ❜ he replied, followed by a playful chuckle. Felix would have sounded more apologetic if he had thought she was being serious. Well, he hoped he was right about that one. ❛ Next time, I promise I’ll remember that, ❜ he added in the same mirthful tone. He paused, thinking about her question, head tilted to the side. It really wasn’t a something that awarded that much considering. ❛ Both. ❜ He had never been a big partier, content in staying home with his comics and video games, but he was also always ready to try something new. It was what kept life interesting, right? ❛ It has Skittles in it, it has to be good. But if it takes too long just give me something sweet. ❜ And it could be perfect for a candy lover like him, but he would take whatever the girl made. ❛ You too, ❜ he smiled and leaned against the counter she had been using for her concoction. ❛ So we’re literally from two different words, huh? ❜

“Next time? You’re already planning on insulting me again? Ouch.” The hurt in the words contrasted with the gleam in her eyes. She couldn’t lie and say she was immune to words hurting her, but it wasn’t as though they were being anything near serious at that moment. “Right... So maybe don’t touch this, I’ll make something a little easier to handle.” Getting what she needed to make a caramel martini, she glanced over the table at the question - rolling the rim of the glass in caramel syrup before dipping it into the sugar. “Apparently so, I think it’s karma for all the times I made fun of my dad for being from a different planet.”  Pouring vodka and caramel syrup into the glass, she held it out towards him. “It’s the single most obvious question, but how are you holding up with everything?”

Samuel rolled his eyes as soon as his sister’s voice rang. ❛ Or I just sound like a twenty-one year old guy who doesn’t like living in a frat house, ❜ he pointed out with a smile. He hadn’t even done that during his university years. Honestly, he didn’t mind it all too much, things hadn’t been anywhere as bad as they could — so far. ❛ Do you want me to list them? ❜ A rhetorical question. ❛ How about just my favorite — meet someone or do something that will change the future as we know it completely. ❜

Rolling her eyes at his reply, she sank into the seat opposite him, shooting her best ‘not amused’ face over at him. “Pretty sure our future’s already screwed up, so why not have some fun?” The fact she knew he had a point, didn’t mean she had to acknowledge that. Thinking about their future and what could have happened, meant properly dealing with what was happening - which ruled it out in Harper’s mind. “When else are we going to be given the opportunity to do whatever we want, without having to worry about mom and dad’s ‘disappointed face’? I think we need to take full advantage of it.”
