kate gave dawn a small smile, it was surprising how different they had been raised, even if their lifestyles were the same. ❝i wish someone would’ve told me that…❞ kate said before reaching for her coffee mug, ❝growing up it was all sit still, look pretty❞ kate let out a small laugh that was more about trying to downplay the ideology she had been raised under.
dawn hmm’d sympathetically, tapping long fingers against her coffee cup, “ i had my fair share of that too. ” she admits, though omits most of the less savory details, “ especially when there was some important event coming up. my mom was a lifesaver, when she could be. ” she offers a small smile, curious gaze directed to kate, “ i know you had some tricks up your sleeve to survive those. my sister and i certainly did.”
‘ you’ve got that look again, ’ hank says, dropping an absent-minded kiss on dawn’s forehead as he sits down at the kitchen table with her. he passes a cup of coffee and surveys her carefully as he takes a slow sip of his own. it’s always a little odd to wake up in bed alone, and for no logical reason, it always gives him an unpleasant jolt. ‘ you find something good? ’ he asks, trying to get a look at her computer screen, but even the slight shift sends an unfamiliar pain through his shoulder.
their last mission – a trafficking ring operating out of jersey – left hank with a dislocated shoulder. an easy fix, sure, but he’s still not used to the way the pain of it lingers. is it too early for a beer? probably.
dawn only takes her eyes off the laptop for the few seconds it takes to seek out her coffee cup. “ i’m not sure, ” she admits, after a beat of silence, “ i think so, but i don’t want to jump the gun until i get more intel. ” always the early riser, this warm mug is her third now, but dawn welcomes it all the same. it was an odd night, not bad necessarily, but sleep escaped her at some point and this was more productive than anything else she could be doing.
with a small smile, she turns the computer around so the screen faces hank and quirks a brow, “ you’ll have to take a look at it. see if there’s - ” she pauses, sees the slightest pull at his brow when he moves, and a frown immediately replaces her earlier expression, “ how bad is it ? maybe we should get it checked at a doctor this go around. ” it’s so much harder without the healing helping them, even with how minimal it was at the end, and dawn worries more than ever, “ you should be resting. i can get some ice for you. ”
“ i knew that this was coming, but I was hoping it would be later. ” the rain is coming down in waves now, almost mockingly. she sighs, hands stuff into her coat, “ note to self: don’t forgo the umbrella to avoid carrying one more thing. ” she side-eyes the woman beside her, “ do you think i have any chance at saving my jacket if i go out in this ?? ”
“ if you don’t like what’s being said, change the conversation. ” dawn hums thoughtfully, a small smile tugging at her lips, “ or, at least, that’s what my mother always told me. it does wonders when you’re stuck talking to the least interesting people on earth. ”
“ it’s amazing how quickly things can go from bad to total shit storm. ” if nothing else, new york made certain no day could be boring. so much for her breakfast bagel; after the scene the man ahead of them had caused, she’s sure the food cart is done for the day, “ oh well. there’s another cart a few blocks ahead. shall we ?? ”

― dread it. run from it. destiny still arrives for you, dawn granger.
henlo. i love a woman and this is her. so uh. i don’t like titans much at all, but it did kinda construct a really solid version of dawn and that’s what i’m gonna primarily use for her backstory. i’ll mix in some comic stuff here and there though, but yeah !
first and foremost though, i’m gonna base majority of her relationships off of the comics and not off titans. the only exception is hank hall and her family relationships. those are founded on the series. her work with the titans and the justice league are all comic focused !
so dawn was raised in london to a pretty wealthy family. political figures and the like. her dad was a physically and emotionally abusive piece of shit and when dawn snapped, she broke his arm and hauled ass to america to get away from him. her sister, holly, followed suit not long after. she doesn’t have any sort of accent.
on top of being a professional ballerina, dawn has close to a decade of martial arts and other dance knowledge. she’s light on her feet and incredibly agile, which made it much easier to adopt the dove mantle when the time came.
dawn lost her mother the same day and in the same accident that hawk, hank hall, lost his brother ( the original dove ). they met again in grief counseling initially and found some semblance of relief from their losses in one another.
eventually, dawn discovered that hank and his brother had been hawk and dove and hank revealed his story to her. she took it upon herself to find his childhood abuser and together they delivered some long over due and permanent justice to his nasty ass.
at some point, they fell in love, moved in together, started working as hawk and dove officially, etc. as dove, dawn was blessed with above average dexterity and strength, but it’s weaned with time and age. when she first started, she also healed much faster than normal, but since it drew on her healthy body, too many wounds and too much time put too much strain on her every time she tried to heal. so now injuries that used to take a week tops take closer to a month if she’s lucky. that said, she’s essentially depowered now anyway so.
in the comics, dove is supposed to be hawk’s polar opposite, but that’s not the vibe i’m going for. dawn is still very reasonable and gentle, but she’s incredibly vindictive in her own right. she seeks justice through whatever means she deems necessary. she will be judge, jury, and executioner for the worst of the worst and she’s not afraid to be violent if it comes down to it. that said, she’s still much more soft spoken and has a much better grip on her temper and emotions than hawk.
idk they’ve teamed up with a good many people in the comics so i’m up for any and all plots or relationships or whatever. call me eve ! i might pop in the discord, but for now i’m open on the IMs.
