Closed Cell Foam
These are compact substances formed from turning gas into solids and are used to manufacture materials mostly applied in the making of solid building material such as sheets and tubes.
What are the uses for closed cell foam?
Used in the making of flotation devices
Flotation devices or anti-ski pads made from closed foam cells include a life jacket, swim floats, big pool floaters, ski boards and several others in the floating category.
Floor underlayment
These are floor and furniture protectors. A piece of foam is made using closed foam cells and is used to cover plywood, concrete, vinyl, laminate and ceramic floors from acquiring scrapes and marks so that it lasts longer. In some buildings, the floor underlayment is fixed so as to keep the floor warm or to give a base to the floor before a carpet is fitted.
Packaging Industries
Medical suppliers are a major user of the products of closed foam cells. They use the closed cell foam rubber to create material which is used in packing medical material such as syringes, life support equipment, medicines, and many others. Closed cell foam rubber also creates packaging material used in other industries like those which use Polyethylene in their packaging.
To make rubber
Closed foam cells produce a rubber called closed foam cell rubber. This rubber is used in the manufacture of automobile cushioning, footwear heels and soles plus furniture.
Makes closed spray foam
The closed-cell foam makes wall coverings which are used to block passage of air or sound, therefore, forming sound proof or sound deadening walls. The closed cell foam is used in buildings that require sound proof such as dancehall walls, Recording studios or TV and radio studios; but also in homes, hotels, offices and other structures whose owners need warmth.
The alternative and in fact the most used spray foam in America is fiberglass although it’s not very effective. The reason why many still keep searching for sound and warmth proofs even after using fiberglass is that fiberglass does not provide a proper seal and therefore more than 30% of heat escapes from a house installed with fiberglass. Closed cell spray foam leaves no fixtures open consequently preventing air from fleeing.
How is closed cell foam made?
Closed cell foams are formed by turning gas into a solid or liquid form. Gas is entrapped to create discrete bubbles which become sturdy concrete material.
Why are closed cell foams important?
They stop wood from rotting
Wood rot occurs in the presence of moisture which dampens and softens the wood, inviting termites to eat it up. Humidity also causes mold and mildew. Applying closed foam spray strengthens the walls, roof, and ceiling while simultaneously preventing moisture from forming within. Using closed form cell spray helps you to save from unnecessary wood repair and maintenance costs.
They reduce a home's energy consumption
According to the US Department of Energy, 40% of a home's energy wasted as a result of escaping air through openings in windows, walls, and doorways. Structures sprayed with closed form cells can prevent this heat loss by 50%.
