Hi, Cg here. I do stuff. I’m fine with any pronouns, though as I said in my bio I mainly go by she/her. I’m on both Quotev and Ao3, though I post mostly on ao3 and usually I also link my fics here :3.

Okay so: Winsweep’s new video “Turning Minecraft into a Cat and Mouse Horror game” dropped today, and I have things to say about Smiling Protocol because of course I do

Spoilers below!

So first, the facts:

Smiling Protocol is set in the 1980s-1990s—I don’t remember the exact years each video takes place in, but I know they are somewhere around that time, though I could be a bit wrong with the years I know they take place in the late 1900s.

This new video, while obviously not a direct continuation in the series, is included in the Smiling Protocol playlist on Winsweep’s channel, and has multiple references and ties to the company of Smilies in general throughout the video.

This new video is set in 2030, the premise based off a game on steam called It Steals (if you don’t know the game, look it up or watch the video first, as Winsweep explains it better than I ever could even if I tried Qwq)

In the video, there’s company stamps, a mention of Mr. S (Mr. Smilie), masks/wincookies left about within the stock, and on Koda’s run, the story touches down on how she died before and was somehow back through writing in a book from an unknown third party (we know it isn’t Checkers—this video’s monster—that wrote it because the book mentions the writer having sent Checkers after everyone rather than having gone after people themself). Checker then leads her out, even seeming to talk to her as opposed to chasing her out the exit door like it did for everyone else.

So obviously, this video has ties to Smiling Protocol in more ways than one. Let’s talk about it :3.

I have no theories as of right now about how Koda—in lore—is alive again, at this point, but I know she is more heavily connected to Smiling Protocol as a whole—having been in all three related videos so far, the first as a new employee, the second as Happy’s voice (and…soul?) and now as an employee again in this one, which isn’t directly related in the timeline or otherwise, but is still tied to the series. However, the person that talked to her through that book said something about being ALIVE and not knowing when exactly it happened. This means they might’ve not been something viewed as alive before, and they seem to not fully understand the concepts of life and death—but, well, who really does? However, the way they talk and the fact they seemed to know Koda may mean that assuming this person is someone we already know about in the series, it may be one of the animatronics or someone tied with the first location; Smilies Hospice. The place Koda worked at (and died at) before.

That’s a very big maybe, though. Less large of a maybe than this next idea.

So obviously, considering the fact this video is set in 2030 and the others are both set in the late 1900s, this video is not the next thing in the timeline. Rather, it’s something in the future of Smiling Protocol. Which may suggest that whatever the goal is in the next chronological installment in the series, it may directly lead to whoever wrote that book addressed to Koda being either set free and going to or even being banished to the dimension the majority of this video takes place in. They did say it was their home…or at least, now it is.

Anyway I don’t have a lot of solid theories or whatever, I just think the Smiling Protocol series as a whole is really cool and this video was a lot more mysterious in its connection to the series—probably because it’s set in the future—so I thought it’d be cool to talk about :3

Genuinely this is one of the best horror series I’ve seen in a while, especially on YouTube. Alright :3 see y’all later, have a good day or night :33

Ooohoohoo! (I’ve been going through the mapicc tag btw so that’s why I got to this after the other one)

This right here is peak storytelling. Lucid your artwork and the way you captured his character here are genuinely amazing. The last line “get up outsider” is kinda bone-chilling when you know how the underworld works. Like, even knowing Mapicc joins them in this au I’m wondering what they’re gonna do X3

And the fact he can’t even stay properly mad at Spoke, wondering if it’s his own fault Spoke threw him down here? WHAT. AAAA

lore reason is because he couldn’t fully heal from the fall (due to having no food) so the injury just stayed there

But also genuinely I can’t lie I was making the reference for his design and added a bandage on a wim so I just decided to take his eye bc I don’t like drawing both eyes anyways (╥﹏╥) it adds to the shock factor of what Spoke did to him! ^^,

Soul Keeper Mapicc AU okay? Angst okay?

+ the explanation and caption I wrote on the og TikTok (split bc I yap like the world is ending)

• Mapicc had hope that Spoke had a plan and would save him at first, but eventually gave up on it (bc Spoke was NOT saving his ass)

• He stays mostly in the Underworld, but is sometimes sent out through the portals because the original Soul Keepers are hesitant to go out themselves.

• The Soul Keepers barely tell him anything, so he's lowkey clueless about the lore of the Underworld.

• He would not consider himself their friend, but he respects them for saving him

• I like to think the Underworld has something to do with the Ouroboros so Mapice's sword has the snake symbol on it, and his pupil in his post-recruitment design also has a sharp pupil (unlike in the comics). I like to think the changes to his body would be permanent.

• Devious Duo reunion would probably occur through Spoke falling into the void somehow and coming across Mapicc in the Underworld. I think it would be fun if they were forced to work together again— maybe AGAINST the Soul Keepers? Maybe Spoke gets captured or something and Mapicc reluctantly uses his new ability to break blocks to save him

OK LISTEN THERE ARE REASONS FOR THIS!!!

A lot of these places are called liminal spaces - which means they are throughways from one space to the next. Places like rest stops, stairwells, trains, parking lots, waiting rooms, airports feel weird when you’re in them because their existence is not about themselves, but the things before and after them. They have no definitive place outside of their relationship to the spaces you are coming from and going to. Reality feels altered here because we’re not really supposed to be in them for a long time for think about them as their own entities, and when we do they seem odd and out of place.

The other spaces feel weird because our brains are hard-wired for context - we like things to belong to a certain place and time and when we experience those things outside of the context our brains have developed for them, our brains are like NOPE SHIT THIS ISN’T RIGHT GET OUT ABORT ABORT. Schools not in session, empty museums, being awake when other people are asleep - all these things and spaces feel weird because our brain is like “I already have a context for this space and this is not it so it must be dangerous.” Our rational understanding can sometimes override that immediate “danger” impulse but we’re still left with a feeling of wariness and unease. 

Listen I am very passionate about liminal spaces they are fascinating stuff or perhaps I am merely a nerd.

I get the playgrounds at night because I walk to one that’s near my house at night sometimes and hang out. I always feel like I’m being watched or followed, or rather something out of the ordinary is happening

This post reminds me of how I felt like me and my mum were being followed when we were walking through the park while the sun was starting to set, I can’t remember what we were doing beforehand but still. I sometimes get the same feeling when walking around my house at night, I carry my jester with me sometimes if I’m getting a snack at night so I feel less alone

Personally, I can’t be alone outside at night. I already don’t trust people, so if it’s dark out and I’m not under a streetlight at all times or with someone else, I am always gonna make a beeline for home because I get this same feeling of something being wrong. Once things get dark, our brains start playing tricks on us because we can’t see as well, and if it’s not certain then it’s deemed as unsafe. Survival instincts or whatever I guess, I don’t know I’m not a psychology student (though it is an interesting topic :3)

LOOK AT THAT REDDOONS DESIGN! I mean the others are great too but I don’t see enough Reddoons fans out in the wild so I’m gonna yap mostly about him specifically today

The HAIR?? Oh my gods the detail on the hair is amazing and it’s everything I imagine when I look at his mc skin like HOLY SHIT you got that on point. I know we can’t exactly see much of it cause the gummyworms are all together but his suit is also pretty perfectly done, the colors are spot on the lines are clean it’s just *chef’s kiss*, perfection. Also, just looking at him the way you drew him here I think even someone who has never heard of Reddoons would be able to tell how chill he is. You genuinely managed to capture every aspect of his character my gosh props to you.

Before I go I’d like to also quickly point out a few things I like about the others too :3

Mapicc’s hair and the slightly cautious expression he’s got on his face there are both amazing; Zam’s dress looks so pretty, those flowers are also really detailed and they add a nice touch especially if you consider all her connection to flowers in past seasons; Ash looks absolutely majestic like how the hell do you draw him that well; Squiddo’s orange bow there in their hair is a nice little detail in her design; and I love how Ro looks kind of like a cross between a pirate and a fancy british person I think it’s funny :3 their outfit is pretty stunning tbh

Eurydice trusted Orpheus, she wanted to follow him. Why would Mapicc do the same :3? (Just food for thought, really. I’d like to try and spark some ideas because this might be interesting :3)

Also hades would probably be jamato right because wemmbu murdered almost all the soulkeepers(i think thats what theyre called) and we think that jamato was the last one. So maybe mapicc is also just trying to get away from jamato idk 🤷🏻🤷🏻

As for the fic it’s based off of a dream I had where there were three “Fates” that could mark people and speak with their marked (usually to threaten them or hurt them). And I didn’t believe they existed so I spread a bunch of media online about how the Fates aren’t real and are made up to make people live their lives how the allegedly marked people see fit by making them too afraid to live comfortably. Eventually I find out that I’m marked by the Fate who is infamous for being the most evil of them all and he is NOT happy about what I’m doing

I’m thinking something like that could be fun to write about :))
