Out of Touch
Out of touch with society. That's a big one for me. I've never liked them. I've always felt like there's this majority of people that just go. They go for the sake of going. "Here's what I should eat, how I should parent, how to dress, how to cut my hair, what I should drive, what music to like and what I should say or do in social situations."
There are so many people that just keep going the way they're going, doing what they're told all because they feel like they should. Remember when MySpace first started? People would share things that they cared about. Sure some of them were still enlisting in the "American Society Corporation," but there were weird people sharing weird things from music they like to their own art. Without MySpace, I never would have learned about music like Immortal Technique, Sweatshop Union or Medeski Martin & Wood. Movies like Poolhall Junkies, Green Street Hooligans or Primer.
Maybe it's that Facebook is more saturated than MySpace was then, there seems to be an increased amount of the "no more decisions" people. The people that surrender their entire life for the baby they just had, or the god they decide to follow. People just hand over their brains and say, "let someone else be in control." However you feel about that, it's just a boiled-down version of the big-picture society.
If a television show has a "confessional" portion I can't watch it. These people talk about reality television like it matters, like there's something that changes their lives if they watch it. American Idol, Storage Wars, Pawn Stars and of course, Duck Dynasty. Sure, empower the racist, homophobic forest people because they make sure and talk to Jesus on camera.
These are the people who share music and television and even brand logos because they're supposed to. They don't see that they're just advertising Coca-Cola, and that corporations like that spend money to make campaigns to trick people into liking their products before trying them, and even make it cheery enough to go and proselytize on the internet, posting the same propaganda that duped them into being a blind comsumer in the first place. I don't get people.
