the moment I heard elphaba's delivery of "there's a girl i know..." in i'm not that girl i knew i had to draw this comic, i strongly recommend listening to it while you read for the full experience!

this comic is a companion to this piece (which was inspired by glinda's delivery of the same line in the i'm not that girl reprise).

no stop wait the fact that the Weather in that scene is reflecting them too. like the bridge and the platform are the obvious metaphor for their relationship, how they're pointed towards each other and they can be together in the middle if they just figure out how to take the next step, yes, love it

the weather is reflecting their emotions though. they show up on the bridges and it's storming around them, they're both terrified and have no idea what's going on, they just wanna get out of that situation and they don't know how. which. i've just had a fucking realisation but i think i need to do a Separate post for that. anyway. as they start to figure out what's going on, in particular when blake says "maybe it's things we've never said to each other" her ears show the fear disappear from her in that moment and at the same time, the wind lessens up. the clouds are still there, but the wind turns to a gentle breeze.

and then just. "any big truths we haven't dropped on each other yet?" and they both realise exactly what fits that bill and the moment they do, the clouds disappear. they love each other, and the world around them knows it, and even though they choose not to say it in that moment and are pulled further apart, they're not afraid of that as they know where it's going now. they know what's about to happen. the bridges are still apart because they're afraid of crossing that last step but the love inside them is overpowering that by so much, and so the weather stays clear. and the sky is the color of their souls as they bare them to each other.

they finally say it, and the bridges are removed from the question, they don't need to take any more steps because that was the last one. they're just there. together, on that platform.
