by the way, if anyone is interested i also have a fandomless oc blog over here! ( i do have a genshin verse planned, too! ) for some reason i thought it was a good idea to draw all of my icons and graphics. it’s taken so long to finish. why did i do this to myself.

It was very rare for Maria to venture up into Dragonspine, pyro vision or not. Her dress was much different than Albedo; where he wore what was normal for him, her usual lolita style was much heavier with warm furs. Thankfully, the bead crown that held her vision on her head kept her head warm without much need for a hat. Despite all this, her eyes widened at the mention of a warm meal, “That sounds lovely, thank you Albedo!” Barbatos knows her cooking would never turn out well.
While she was paying attention to him, of course she was, her eyes seemed to wander the beautiful snowed over path around them. Her trips to this mountain were never like this, always spent finishing a commission as quickly as possible and staying close to a torch to light with her vision. Now, she wrote down notes on almost everything she could see, though they instinctively turned into what Albedo was saying, then circled when her attention came back to the notepad in her hands.
When she looked back up, sure enough, her teacher was a good few feet ahead of her. Seems Maria had slowed down in her observations. She laughs at herself, then catches up rather easily. ( someone of her height is used to having to do that ) “Nonsense! Anything you’re interested in is interesting to me. Even if I don’t understand at first, hehe…” Many trips to ruins had been met with a blank stare when she first began working, only to be derailed when she found a working Ruin Guard and accidentally woke it up. Curse her interest in machinery.
❝ well, there’s never any shame in asking questions. ❞ in fact, albedo had already anticipated as much —— and encouraged it. ( always. ) how else was one expected to learn? ❝ if we come across anything you aren’t familiar with, i’d be happy to explain. ❞ and on the off chance things went awry ( whether due to tampering with a rogue machine or simple misfortune ) he was confident they were well-equipped to handle it.
as anticipated, the walk to camp was fairly uneventful. the temperature dropped the higher they ascended —— though albedo hardly seemed bothered. the alchemist dealt ( unusually ) well with the cold, and maria had her vision if they ran into trouble. he was largely silent as they traveled, occasionally speaking up only to point out interesting landmarks or plants unique to the mountain. mint was able to thrive even in the most unforgiving climates . . . he made it a point to stop and collect a bit for their meal. ( it always tasted better fresh. )
it started to snow by the time they reached their destination —— well, more than it already had been. albedo eyed the drifting flakes warily. visibility wasn’t impacted, but he could only hope the map would still be readable. ( the places of interest it detailed unburied. ) ah well. the weather on dragonspine was notoriously unpredictable; no matter what happened, it was important they made safety their priority.
❝ . . . home sweet home. ❞ albedo quipped dryly. he had spent so much time working out of that particular campsite it was practically fact.
❝ would you mind taking care of the fire? i'll get to work on our meal, but cooking without one might prove a little challenging. ❞ a joke.
albedo is the personification of feeling lonely, even while you find yourself standing in a crowded room. he is loved and respected by so many people —— frequently complimented for his brilliant mind and adored for his kind disposition . . . but even then, he still feels completely disconnected from everyone around him. he is different. he will always be different. ( even if no one else can see it. ) he is chalk amongst soil. he is a cuckoo egg slipped in another bird’s nest —— a doppelganger with the potential to hatch into a destructive force to the detriment to those closest to him. he’s painfully aware of this; it’s a sobering thought always lurking in the back of his mind.
and that doesn’t mean the care he shows others is fabricated —— it’s real. the people albedo holds dear to him, he treasures with all of his heart. that doesn’t make the ( invisible ) chasm he feels between them any smaller. if anything, he feels wracked with a sort of imposter syndrome —— like the albedo everyone knows and cares for is a farce built upon a fundamental misunderstanding of who ( and what ) he is. that’s one of the reasons why he’s so humble whenever he’s given any kind of praise —— albedo doesn’t feel like he deserves any of it.
he is simultaneously so loved and so terribly alone.
happy birthday albedo! 9/13

@chalkborn liked for a starter!
There was no indication such a path would allow him any company, fresh snow settling in gentle waves on the curves of ombre horns. Silence, grounding in its company, allowing time to think unimpeded by the ever busy world. While not far from the well-trod path, with the light slowly draining from the sky Azhdaha thought he would have time to himself besides the frostbearing tree. Though it seemed this stranger had no intended to stop idly to chat either, but if the blonde was surprised, it was nearly impossible to tell on his features.
“I intend no harm to you or this being, simply an old soul enjoying reminiscing, feel no need to pause your journey to inquire further.”
the sky had been streaked in an array of gorgeous colors —— the backdrop of yet another day’s end. though he had bore witness to the sight enough times to paint its familiar hues with his eyes closed, something about that particular sunset managed to stir an odd compulsion within him. artistic inspiration, the alchemist supposed. that same compulsion was why he had found himself standing before the ancient tree, sketchbook in hand —— though one thing he hadn’t anticipated was company.
the stranger’s comment was met with a brief silence, teal hues roving about the scene.
❝ . . . i see no reason to question your intentions; reminisce to your heart’s content. ❞ albedo finally replied. his gaze flicked to the sketchbook. ❝ that being said, would you mind if i took a moment to sketch the view? ❞

Things @chalkborn and Maria have done in various canons!
Basically platonically adopted another homunculus and became a science family
Got drunk and used a multi dimensional portal Maria had built and try to bring Barbatos into the world
Tried. They actually brought Ei
Brought that homunculus’ abusive dad into that world on accident
Brought a multi dimensional demon onto the world by accident and very misplaced trust
Tested various monsters to make weapons effective against them
Lived through an apocalypse
Almost burnt a house down trying to cook together
God knows whatever the fuck goes on in those labs with her magic and his alchemy but some of it is probably a bit ethically dubious!
boughtastar·:
“Albedooo! We’ve talked about this…!”
❝ i was joking. ❞ . . . he was not joking. ( that was a promise. )
albedo vc: i’ve known maria for five years, but if anything ever happened to her i would destroy mondstadt . . . and then everything else in teyvat.
fireshot·:
A dozen different thoughts flitted across Yoimiya’s mind. Did he dislike her fireworks? Did they not touch his heart the way they did others???? Was he annoyed that she talked too much? She HAD to remind herself that not EVERYONE loved having their ear talked off.
His mouth finally opened to speak and she stiffened, honey gaze fixated on his expression.
but instead of anything negative she had anticipated him to say … it was merely a suggestion.
Nothing that at all seemed like criticism to her. “Oooooohhh…..” a heavy and relieved sigh parted her rosy lips, her hand resting against her chest.
“That’s what you meant. GEEEZEEEE Albedo. Way to scare me. but I AM intrigued …you wouldn’t happen to have these ‘lamp grass seeds, would ya?”
❝ oh? is my opinion really that intimidating? ❞ a ( faint ) huff of a laugh. it was a little bittersweet to think about. ❝ critique is supposed to be helpful; i wouldn’t say something if it wasn’t meant to serve a purpose. ❞ simply being harsh for the sake of it didn’t help anyone.
albedo paused then, pretending to think. ❝ hypothetically speaking . . . it wouldn’t be unreasonable to assume as much. ❞ especially considering the alchemist was based out of mondstadt. ( lamp grass practically grew on his doorstep . . . or it would, if albedo didn’t take care to trim it. ) ❝ there is even a chance i might have brought up the subject in the first place because i wanted to share some with you. . . but that would be a little too mischievous, wouldn’t it? ❞
of course, no sooner had he finished the thought than the alchemist held out a tiny pouch in offering.
❝ the plants are also a popular ingredient to cook with. ❞

Watching the calming multitude of movements from the curious stranger is almost ’ as soothing as Ms. Harris herself exploring the library for herself ’ . Alas, her loss of direction has ’ led to the assumption of another as a worker of some sort within the room of vast knowledgeable literature ’.
“ Ah… was the social identity assumption of mine incorrect? You must accept my whole of hearted apologies then. I am still getting quite use to the various embodied atmospheres within this world.. “
The shift to another shelf, the casualness of asking for assistance of her own need, halfway ’ made her a bit curious about the time he spent here in the library ’ . It seems there was so much for him to ‘ explore, such as Ms. Harris has indeed desired ’ .
“ I desire to continue to know more knowledge about the identified “archons” of this world, specifically the known archon of this region of Mondstadt known as “Barbatos”, if that is possible. As far as I am socially and politically aware and concerned, they are presumed to be the gods of this world, yet they spark as a sort of motive to each region of the world. If I am to reciprocate that knowledge from region to region and understand the motive and contribution each individual archon has made to their region, I may begin to understand this world just a little bit more. “
several seconds ticked by without an audible response —— though it was clear the alchemist wasn’t ignoring her. ( quite the opposite; he was listening rather closely. ) ❝ your wording implies you are an outsider to this world . . . am i correct in assuming as much? ❞ the inquiry was spoken quite casually, all things considered —— though to be fair, it wasn’t the first time albedo had ever encountered such a peculiarity. already, several questions of his own were scratching at the back of his skull . . . ah, but she had asked hers first.
❝ hmm . . . if barbatos has piqued your curiosity, you might have better luck at the cathedral. ❞ he punctuated the statement by sliding another book into its proper place. ❝ or were you looking for a more unbiased perspective? ❞ well, even if that were the case, albedo supposed he certainly qualified. he held no ill-will towards those they called gods —— yet he also didn’t gaze upon them with the same rose-tinted reverence so many others did, either.
. . . yet another quality that set him apart, the alchemist supposed.
pushing the thought aside, albedo finally turned to face her. ❝ as i’m sure you must have gathered by now, mondstadt is known as the city of freedom. ❞ his gaze briefly flicked to a nearby window —— a glance at the location in question. ❝ fittingly, freedom is also the ideal embodied by the anemo archon . . . that isn’t a coincidence. ❞
adularye:
❝You are acquainted with Dragonspine’s history? Well well, you’re one distinguished knight, I see!❞ Placing both hands upon hips, Venti gave a curious look at the young alchemist. He felt something, a beat resembling a hunch, yet played it off with a chuckle and a smile. ❝ Not many address the final resting place of the Shadow Dragon’s remnants as Vindagnyr anymore.❞
( @chalkborn ) ALBEDO, STARTER CALL
the comment was met with a blink. ( curiosity mirrored in the alchemist’s gaze. ) ❝ . . . i’m just as surprised to hear you recognize the name. ❞ albedo admitted. ❝ although . . . i suppose that was an oversight on my part. it is a bard’s job to be more well-acquainted with history than most, isn’t it? ❞ how else could they be expected to weave such tales into poetry? spin them into song?
❝ but, to answer your question . . . i would call my own understanding woefully incomplete. ❞ a light ( almost thoughtful ) frown tugged at the corners of his mouth. something he hoped to change.
albedo’s sense of humor is INCREDIBLY dry —— and his even tone of voice makes it difficult to differentiate a joke from a statement of fact. he actually makes little quips all the time, but most people usually don’t pick up on them or assume he’s being serious and it’s always a bit disheartening whenever it happens. ( albedo is really funny actually. please laugh. )
@anemonti &&. liked for a STARTER!
❝ it’s strange; i don’t think i’ve ever seen so many strays drawn to a single person before. ❞ albedo remarked dryly —— shooting the crowd of felines a quizzical glance out of the corner of his eye. they seemed to be growing by the minute, both in number and volume. maybe they were hungry? looking for attention? something else entirely? hm.
❝ perhaps they have an ear for music? ❞ a joke —— well, mostly. best not to discount any possibility so soon.
@qucintly &&. liked for a STARTER!
❝ oh . . . i’m not the librarian. ❞ although the words seemed a touch dubious in their authenticity. he did punctuate the statement by sliding a book into its proper place on the shelf —— and had an impressive stack tucked under his other arm waiting to be sorted. in truth, he borrowed them all to study. ( even albedo followed the golden rule —— to return his books on time. ) selecting another thick tome from the pile, the alchemist studied its cover for a moment before recognition lit up his gaze. ah, right. it went . . .
❝ were you looking for something in particular? ❞ albedo asked, moving to another shelf. ( multitasking. very efficient. ) ❝ there is still a chance i may be able to help you. ❞
@geohund &&. liked for a STARTER!
❝ appearances aside . . . they’re actually quite mild-mannered, aren’t they? ❞ albedo’s hands gently cradled the beetle in question —— though it seemed content to rest comfortably upon the alchemist’s palms. actually, it barely moved at all the entire time he had been holding it. the onikabuto . . . what an interesting creature. ( drawn to electro much like a moth to flame. ) they were honestly a little endearing, now that he thought about it.
❝ i’m not very well-versed in the art of bug fighting, i’m afraid. ❞ a slight tilt of the head. ❝ do they follow a specific training regimen? ❞
