Whenever I watch Prince of Egypt, there’s one moment that never fails to strike me. This moment is at the heart of Prince of Egypt as a Jewish movie. It’s a little scene at the end of “All I Ever Wanted”, with Moses and the queen, after Moses learns that he was born a Hebrew slave, and she tells him:

“This is your home, my son Here the river brought you And it’s here the river meant To be your home. Now you know the truth, love Now forget and be content. When the gods send you a blessing, You don’t ask why it was sent.”

The entire movie answers this with no, you must question everything, especially your place in the world. You must always ask.

just had my one on one meeting with my rabbi about conversion. I feel like he knows I’m solid! It was so affirming! I was so nervous and I could tell he was trying to make me less so! I’m getting emailed my 300 questions I have to answer today! I could very well be official come summertime this year!!!

went to a hanukkah party at my boyfriend’s best friend’s parents’ house last night and it was really nice! I haven’t been around reform Jews in awhile though so it was really disorienting to have a non kosher meal (brisket on the same plate as latkes and sour cream) in a jewish home lol. I talked to the friends mom about the rabbis at her shul (that’s where I started my conversion) and some other stuff too. it was seriously so nice to be in a jewish home and not be the one taking my bf there but the other way around.

reality one year later: it’s christmas eve, im three hours from the love of my life, but he’s wonderful. I’ll hopefully be jewish by this time next year. he’s not jewish but he’s supportive of my desire to have a jewish household and raise jewish children. I’m at my moms house in the living room with the xmas tree. last night I lit chanukah candles in my childhood bedroom and the night before with my boyfriend. I am warm, I am happy, I am in love, and I am almost jewish.

please do not force an lgbt label onto anne frank. she died before she had the chance to explore her sexuality and if you need to think of her as lgbt to have empathy for her you need to reconsider how you think of holocaust victims. please do not vilify her father, a man who lost his entire family in the holocaust, for censoring the parts in anne’s diary where she expresses attraction for women. it was 1947. jewish girls were already seen as hypersexual. he was protecting her legacy as best he could, and you have no right to call him a villain for wanting what was period-typical best for his late daughter.
