My new supplies in hand, I trudged across the arena. The wound in my arm wasn't a deep one--I could fix it easily with a needle and thread, but that was something I didn't have. At this point, I doubted I had a sponsor, otherwise I would've been sent something by now, right?

If my count was correct, there were twelve of us left. Maybe eleven, if I was lucky, and I was responsible for the death of one. Pangs of guilt surged through my chest, and I couldn't help but feel wrong for defending myself. Then again, if I hadn't, I'd be dead.

Lines of houses came into view, and I wasn't quite sure which one to head into. One was burning to the ground, and there couldn't possibly be someone in it--I would've heard a cannon by now. Instead, I head into one with a number thirteen on the front, the door already unlocked.

I found myself not alone anymore--for the pair from 4 sat in the middle of the room.

Challah: Life was...quiet back home, I guess you could say. My family owned a bakery, you see. It was enjoyable, though. Not as elaborate and fancy as it is here, of course, but it was home. *shrugs*

Caesar Flickerman: *nods as he listens* Yes, it's hard to be as exquisite as the Capitol! I can see why you're such a quiet girl! I bet they miss you a lot, is there anything that you'd like to say to them today?

Challah: Oh, yes, of course. I'm miss them too, and all the cakes *laughs*, but I'm going to try my best to get back home. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

Caesar Flickerman: Speaking of that, you received an 8 in your private training. That's a surprising score for a quiet girl from an outlying District. Were you surprised by it at all?

Challah: Very surprised, actually! I wasn't expecting to score as high as I did. It's given me some hope and confidence, if that makes any sense. I couldn't ask for a better turnout.

Challah: I don't think I'm supposed to share much, but I did leave a little surprise for the trainers. *winks*

Notable developments: I learned a lot in the medical field, which will definitely benefit me in the arena. As for shelter building, I'm decent, though it'll get a makeshift roof over my head one way or another.

Bumps and Bruises || Medical Training || Oneshot

While the puzzles and strategic stations seemed to spark my interest, I figured medical training would be of more use, especially since I hadn't seen Amarillo visit there. If I was going to get hurt in the arena, I was going to know how to fix myself, too.

Taking the medical book first, I decided to read about the injuries before actually treating one. Flipping to the burns, I already knew how to treat those. When I was ten, I burned my entire hand on a tray in the oven, and it was classified as third-degree, according to the District doctor. Burns were common, being a baker. I could treat those just fine.

It was the infection and stitching that needed work. I turn to the tabs that discussed those subjects and took a needle from beside me, threading it as the pictures demonstrated. My mother sewed clothes for me; it couldn't be so hard. Instead of fabric, though, it'd be skin.

Infections were an issue. I couldn't prevent infection in the arena, and there wasn't a way to prevent it as a whole. However, the book showed ways to treat it, and if I could get the supplies from sponsors that I needed to treat infection, I'd be in good shape.

Slicing through a dummy's arm, fake blood oozed out of the wound I'd made. I applied a salve to it to prevent infection and took my needle from the table, beginning to sew the skin together. 

This was more disgusting than I bargained for--even on a dummy. Wincing, I bit my lip as I pushed the needle through the skin, my hand shaky. If I needed to perform this on another tribute, I'd wind up stabbing them, or worse, killing them.

Focusing, I managed to loop through the fake skin, leaving it somewhat sewn together by the time I'd finished. Taking a match, I burned the skin below it to heal. Referring to the book, I'd made a second-degree burn. If I wanted salve for this, I needed sponsorship points; but instead, I apply from the canister in front of me.

Taking the knife, I saw off the dummy's hand to make a tourniquet. I ripped a piece of fabric from the kit I'd been given, wrapping it tightly around the stump I'd made in the dummy. The excessive bleeding ceased, which must've been a good sign.

Stuffing its contents back inside, I close the first aid kit and head off.

I was bored of the strategy training now and could feel myself getting agitated, I wanted a weapon in my hands to train with. Not some sticks and leaves that the trainer expected me to put together to shelter me from whatever the Game Makers concocted.

As I began weaving some long grass together, I noticed the shadow of someone moving to the side of me, a girl with a “9” embroidered on her uniform that I hadn’t really seen around the training centre yet.

"Hey 9" I say politely. "You any good at this?" I ask, nodding at the pre-made shelter.

Sighing as he spoke, I turned towards Bruno with a shrug. "I haven't been here yet, " I explained, "but I'm going to try to be somewhat decent at building something." It couldn't be too hard, right? I would embarrass myself more if we were at weapon training.

"I have a name, you know," I snapped, the words coming out harsher than I had intended. "Yours is Bruno, I know that," I mumbled, wrapping sticks in blades of grass. Maybe this was harder than I'd anticipated.

I looked up, my brow furrowed. "Are you any good at this?" I asked, admittedly hoping he wouldn't be.

Figuring the last day of training would be a hectic one, I decided to get started as early as I could. Brecon had advised us to get to as many stations as possible, and honestly, I didn't think it was going to happen, but I might as well try. At least the strategics weren't as painful as weapon training.

Heading over to the shelter building station, I found another tribute already there. Glancing at his shoulder, I cursed under my breath as I found it was the boy from One--the one Alaska had warned me about yesterday. Shaking my head, I wasn't going to let him get to me. Not like Alaska had, anyway.

Though he seemed hard to avoid, I gathered my supplies, examining an already built shelter that the trainers had made. The structure was far from simple, and I didn't think I'd ever get to that point, though a few leaves over my head was better than nothing.

Public Training--Day 3

Stations trained at: Poisons and edible plants, camouflage, fishing

Notable developments: Alaska is sweet, and I wouldn't mind talking to her again. If possible, I need to review the plants before leaving tomorrow. Camouflage was interesting, ending with a kiss (!) I won't need to visit there again; cake decorating made it easy. Fishing was hard, though I'd somewhat gotten the hang of it by the end.
