Jopson ABSOLUTELY deserves to win this bracket, if not the ENTIRE THING.

Thomas Jopson is a SURVIVOR. He got himself out of Victorian Marylebone, learned to fake a reasonably middle-class accent, and leads a life of relative safety on the ship. you know who wasn’t losing toes to the cold and Dog watches? Thomas. Jopson.

Second, his entire THING is being resourceful and SILENT. He’s so unobtrusive that he literally disappears into the background on a packed ship, imagine trying to hunt him down in the woods!!! He’s going to Uno reverse you, he’s gonna hunt YOU down, you’re gonna look over your shoulder and he’s gonna be standing there creepily at the top of the hill watching YOU!!!!

Third, Thomas has medical training!! You don’t nurse several people through several kinds of withdrawal without having a reasonable knowledge of how to treat injury. You’re gonna get him in the shoulder with an arrow and he is gonna yank that bitch out, patch himself up, AND KEEP FUCKING GOING.

Fourth, city boy street smarts plus country boy wilderness skills!! "everything we ate started with a gun, I’ve shot smaller hawks than you" You know what is required skill for hunting, right? The ability to navigate the woods or wilderness, the ability to do it silently, and the ability to wait patiently and observe.

I kinda hate feeding the "wet sopping loser Edward Little" agenda (I've seen so many posts criticizing how some parts of the fandom oversimplify him and his character and boil him down to "useless pathetic wet cat who cant do anything right" and a part of me is scared that I've been (perceived to be) part of that bc I've produced my fair share of "nedward looking pathetic" art but I get that he's more complex than that!!! He is stuck in a situation that ANYONE would crumble in, his superior is an alcoholic who treats him like an errands boy but hes bound by the chain of command. Much more eloquent ppl have pointed out his wins and accomplishments on and off screen. Also I haven't seen anyone mentioning this but I think a lot of it is also just mcnultys looks. Those big brown eyes and eyelashes, the lips.. He can look sooooo pathetic and sad and beaten up on a level not many actors can imo. Anyways I hope this will shut the voices (in my head) up and won't cause any drama plssss)

(That being said tho I still love the memes don't get me wrong. Also yeah he's just fun to draw like this (sad/wet/pathetic))

He returns to the whorehouse sober the next week to gain clarity on what the prostitute meant when she said he "couldn’t lay with a woman with what he’s got", and Solomon, who is either working as a bouncer or as a prostitute depending on who you ask, offers to help him figure out how he’s going to manage to have sex with his wife after the wedding. When Jopson gets sick, he's stubborn, you know damm well he's going to mask up and go to work anyway. He might collapse at 10AM on a doorway, from a high fever; leading to Crozier being the most mad at Jopson he ever got in his life, and mad at Little, too! "How could you even let him walk out of the house this way?" "I didn't." - of course, Thomas didn't sleep at his place the previous night - Edward, for a moment, is too indignant at hearing Crozier's words he doesn't answer for a moment, before blurting out "... You know he does that for you, don't you?"

AU about Jopson as a sex worker is always great and heaven-approved, but how about an AU where Jopson, after the Antarctic expedition, joins underground no-rules fights to earn some money. And Crozier, giving in to an urge for vulgar entertainment one day, stumbles upon him. Imagine his feelings when he sees his sweet, gentle, polite boy being turned into bloody mess in the ring. No, sometimes Jopson wins, but this place has too many people meaner and stronger than him. And yet Jopson is resilient enough, fearless enough to step into the ring again and again. It lets him earn enough money for his family.

Crozier can't intervene, he can only watch. Shirts just get in the way during a fight, and amid Jopson's old and new bruises on his back, you can see marks of other violence. There are plenty of reasons to find Jopson after a fight, but those scars are an extra reminder that Crozier has him as his charge. It's something about belonging and responsibility.

Jopson flinches when the captain puts a hand on his shoulder. He has a pained, vulnerable look, and he's too exhausted to be surprised.

"You're coming with me, Tom."

I'm holding off on voting for almost every other bracket, but I truly believe Solomon Tozer from 1840 could be comfortably dropped into 2025 and not suffer for it.

1- His job still exists! He can stare at London for a minute and then go right down to the enlistment offices and reenlist and with modern labor practices and protections his quality of life is only going to get better.

2- One of the few personal stories we hear him tell is about going down to the whore house with his buddies, this man is going to lose his goddamn mind for casual sex-- get this man a Tinder, get this man a Grindr, get this man a Hinge. honestly he is a big, beefy, conventionally attractive man just bring him to any pub he's leaving with SOMEONE
