i think grace's middle school instincts are part of the reason why he fails to clock how important he is for the mission & that he's stratt's second in command.
like he's so used to his commands being somewhat followed and can control a room full of people speaking over each other with ease. maybe he even uses the damn bean bag when it gets really bad and stratt looks like she's about to start throwing knives instead of glances.
they're casually strolling back her office, and he yells "dr. sama, no running" and every single person in their immediate vicinity slows down significantly. grace doesn't skip a beat in his monologue and eva is watching it unfold with amusement, and warmth settles in her chest.
i love like every single way for how he finds out about his power tm, literally cannot get enough of it. yet another scenario coming to mind is them in her office, doing paperwork.
large stacks piled everywhere, though he gets through his smaller one a lot quicker. (he's sitting on the floor because it's comfortable and she kinda enjoy being able to look down at him without having to be wary of being caught)
"maybe i should just learn how to forge your signature so i can help out," he jokes, casually.
and she just keeps writing while saying, "your signature is quite literally as good as mine, so get to it then".
"pff, yeah right, nice try."
"i'm not joking."
"...what?"
a very long conversation ensues and by the end, grace gets to experience the horrors of eva's paperwork for himself.

Malevolent Threshold AU where John was given a body on his own. Arthur had to come up with a likely story as to who John is and why so conveniently he became his partner (in work sense, it's still 1930's, pretty homophobic out there) right after Parker was found dead and so on. also, Faroe doesn't trust John (due to his sketchy backstory, sometimes weird behavior and strange relationship with Arthur) (she'd also probably suspect him in killing Parker) and is concerned about Arthur.
John, as him and Arthur are working on dinner: (off handedly) If not circumstances, I'd have stayed in you. Cut you open and snuggled in rib cage, holding your heart close to me. It'd feel like home.
Arthur, used to his poetic language: (not even looking up from cutting board) That's very sweet, friend. Care to pass some herbs?
Faroe, standing in doorway, unnoticed by neither men: 😦
The scene at the very beginning of Grace's involvement with the Project, before he even knows what Project Hail Mary IS, when Stratt's quietly guiding him into a meeting room to do a high-pressure task involving what he's learned about astrophage that he wasn't expecting to have to do? While she and three men are blocking his attempt to leave the room? And Grace is saying "I can't do this." and Stratt is gently trying to get him in there, "Come on. Yeah—" and Grace keeps repeating "I can't. I can't. I can't."? And Stratt doesn't let him go, the men don't allow him to escape, but she also doesn't stop reassuring him about his capability in a situation he desperately wants out of, because she doesn't doubt at all that if he gets in there and does the task he'll do it well? "You're doing great."
Neither platonic nor romantic, simply because they didn’t have enough time to figure out which one.
I’ve been thinking about Eva Stratt, because what else would I be doing
And I know logistically this would never work in canon but I’m thinking about what if she went on the mission with Grace,
Let’s say Yao and Ilyukhina still don’t make it, which means it’s just her and Grace, Stratt still had to give him amnesia, so when they wake up and she reminds him of the mission
Does she tell him he didn’t want to go?, is that more ethical than hiding it?, is not telling him just setting him up for a harsher betrayal in the future?
For the first time in years she does not have the correct answer, and has no way to know the right answer
She knows logically he will eventually remember (what if she just hits him with a microscope when he remembers?, he probably would forget again, no she can’t do that, that’s unethical) but every moment she doesn’t tell him is a moment she is lying to him
God she is so fucked
do i ship strattland?
no
do i think it's kind of fucking crazy that as soon as rocky brings up his mate and how time already spent with a partner is never enough grace remembers the karaoke scene?
absolutely yes what the fuck was that
