Basics of learning a language
I’ve been teaching english and learning german for a while now, therefore I feel like I have some tips to share! Here are some simple ways to make your language learning easier:
Notes, notes and notes -Write down all the words you need, whether it’s your teacher using them or they’re used in the book you study from. Read and learn 5 or 10 every day and keep coming back to them.
Visuals -Draw pictures when learning words. Body parts, places and everything you can describe, draw it!
Talk to someone -We have internet so go and find someone who’ll talk in the language with you.
Listen to it -Watch movies in the language. You might not consciously learn new words and definitely not gramma, however it will teach you to understand the spoken form without you noticing.
Write -Write essays, messages and stories. Even this blog helped me get better in english just because it makes me use it frequently.
Think in the language -Find ways to think about it every day
Save all the extra materials you get your hands on
First read a text, then translate word for word
When you find a new word try writing down it’s opposite and it’s other forms
Do the extra exercises in grammar
Have a reason why -If you haven’t chosen your language yet (and you can choose, you’re not limited by school), then choose a language you have reason to learn.
