âDonât leave,â Asahi whispers, a hint of desperation in his voice as his arms tighten around you, pulling you closer so that your back rests against his chest.Â
âThe sun is setting, Sahi. I have to get home,â you tell him gently, looking up to meet his eyes and laughing softly at the pout on his lips. He nods at your words, yet he still doesnât let you go, his head drooping slightly to press his lips to the top of your head.Â
âJust stay a bit longer?â
You pause for a second before giving in and nodding, shifting to get a more comfortable seat between his legs as his hands unconsciously begin to play with the hem of your sweater. You know he always dreads the end of the day when the two of you have to say goodbye, and perhaps thatâs the reason why you clutch onto him even tighter as you direct your gaze towards the scenery.
The previously pink shades of the sky have darkened into a striking blood orange, the sun having dipped over halfway past the horizon. Itâs an explosion of deep hues, and something about being able to experience it with Asahi makes the colors a little bit brighter, the view a little bit more stunning. His fingers trace soothing patterns along your skin, and you find yourself closing your eyes for a moment, relishing in the sense of calm that washes over you.
A particularly chilly breeze sweeps through the air, and you involuntarily shudder, turning on your side to bury your head into Asahiâs chest. He notices your shiver, and he lifts the blanket draped over your legs a little bit higher so it covers your shoulders. He presses another kiss to your head, his warm hands snaking under the blanket to engulf your colder ones. You look up at him again, about to thank him, but the words get stuck in your throat when his eyes lock with yours.Â
Heâs beautiful, and you know this, but even after being with him for so long, he has a talent for making your heart beat ridiculously fast, rendering you speechless with his every gaze. He somehow looks even more ethereal like this, holding you in his arms with the oranges and magentas of the sunset casting the most lovely glow on his face. He smiles at you, his eyes sparkling, and something about tenderness of it nearly makes you tear up, wanting to say something to him but knowing that no words are needed for him to understand what you feel. You settle with squeezing his hand gently, and he, in return, grips yours a bit tighter.Â
When you turn back to the sky, your heart drops a little at the sight before you. The sun has fully set, adding a bold purple to the mix of colors, and itâs a scene that you would normally find gorgeous if it didnât mean that you had to leave.
âSahi,â you murmur, and he quietly hums back. âItâs getting dark.â
You feel his shoulders slump against you. âI know,â he sighs, and after a moment of reluctance, he lets go of you, the blanket falling off your bodies as you both stand. For a minute, you simply look at him, and despite not knowing what word there is to describe the look in his eyes, you know you feel the exact same way as him.
âWell,â you start awkwardly, âyou were right about the rooftop having a gorgeous view.âÂ
The corners of Asahiâs lips turn up a little, and without a word, he wraps his arms around you, burying his face in the crook of your neck.Â
âIâm sorry that I kept you for so long,â he mumbles softly, âand for being so emotional today.â
You shake your head. âDonât apologize, and donât be too sad, alright? Iâll call you as soon as I get home, and itâs not like Iâm leaving forever or anything. Iâll see you tomorrow?â
He murmurs some sort of affirmation back, the words muffled by your shoulder. He pulls away just enough to be able to keep his arms around you while looking directly into your eyes, and youâre once again captivated by his beauty.Â
âI love you,â he breathes, the words falling from his lips in the same way you think angels fall from the sky.Â
Your heart stings at the sincerity of his words, and you cup his face, leaning in to connect his lips with yours. When the two of you separate, thereâs a dazed expression on his face, his eyes hazy and lips still parted from the kiss. You canât help but giggle at his reaction, brushing his cheek with your thumb, and for a heartbeat, even the sunset seems to have fallen in a somber mood, as if in an apology for your inevitable parting.
