I have been drawing and thinking and conniving.

About what, you ask?

My Star Trek characters that I made up. Most of them were created while I was sick.

I made a little crew for Starfleet.

Long post, more under cut.

The captain is a human named Terry Madison Keys, she is awesome. Her first officer is a changeling named Tiko who tales a solid form that is similar to an Andorian(why Tiko works here and why Tiko isn’t with any other changelings is still a little bit in the air rn, but I like Tiko, so Tiko hasn’t been removed yet.) The CMO is Doctor Margaret Lindsel and the nurse most relevant to the plot is named Thomas John McCarthy. We have Freddy who is a normal ass Terran cat that is in charge of eating whatever small pests(mostly tribble based contraband) get onto the ship, the ship is named after him. Yes male calico cats are a thing, they’re just rare and sterile most of the time. He has a rank as a senior officer and his rank of his collar. Starfleet decided to let this happen, Freddy is invited to meetings, this cat has rank, people are outranked by a cat. In operations we have a Vulcan named T’preek who is an absolute champion. She needs to be paid more. In engineering is Torg, a Klingon who also needs to be paid more, why is everyone around here insane? He thought the whole goal of this job was to NOT make things explode. Then there’s the Cardassian officer, Dhev Kuzkat(he goes by Kuzkat,) he’s in charge of security measures on the starship and of keeping an eye on everyone. He’s stern and is only close with a select few on the Calico, those people being Torg, Tiko, and Keys. He does gradually trust more crewmates enough to become friends with them, but that is after some serious development. He’s also horribly afraid of tribbles. The reason is still to be decided.

But yeah, this is a short post to name all of them. More in depth lore and explorations of ideas for each individual one later.

Red Delicious is a variety of apple that was bred to maintain shape, color, and durability when transported and stored. It was originally created in the late 19th century and achieved great popularity in the mid 20th century. In the early 21st century, the variety remains popular, and is one of the most common apple variants.

However, in the early twenty-first century is has developed a reputation (especially online in the form of memes) for being unpleasant. The deep red color the apple was bred directly selects against many flavor traits in apples which produce yellow coloration and striped. The thick, waxy skin protects the apple in transportation and maintains a attractive shine, but many find that it is undesirable.

In the early twenty-first century, the competitive advantages of the Red Delicious breed is much less relevant. Transportation logistics have vastly improved, so even delicate apples are unlikely to bruise on their way to the store and at home. Transportation speeds and storage mechanisms have also improved so the apple's long lasting nature is much less relevant. And, the consistency factor the apple was prized for, where every apple of the breed could be counted on to taste the same, has become the norm among cultivars. New and improved apple varieties have emerged that have all the benefits of the Red Delicious (or close enough given the new logistical realities) while also tasting better.

As such, the Red Delicious has become something of a lacking thing. The great success it represented at its introduction has fallen behind across its 150 year history, leaving it an object of mockery compared to all the new variants that have learned the lessons it taught and improved upon them. The Red Delicious simply cannot compete, as we no longer live in the world it was grown for, a world it served very well.

Well Thomas tends to be Tom and Tommy. I have heard Tom-Bomb, Tommy Boy, Tomma Llama, Tomster, Tommer Bomber, MasMas, and Hom.

Maria typically stays Maria but can be shortened cutely to Mari. I have heard Mariah, Mariah Carrey, Marida, Mariada, Maria Stinkadia, Maria Badilla, Maria Badilla Stinkadilla, Mare Mare, and Mare.

Julia can be shorted to Julie and Jules. I have heard Jujubee, Juju, Jujitzu, Jujubilla, Julie mah Roomie, Bad Juju, and Good Juju.

Makenna can be Kenna or Mac. I have heard Mac’n’Kenna Cheese, Makaroonie, Macaroni, Kenna Benna, and Macintosh.

And of course, many more.

Also, pets named Ruffle? Rufflestielskein.

Update on the movie: I am currently reworking the plot as I look for ways to achieve the effects that I desire on screen in a budget friendly manner.
