I can’t DO April Fool’s, cuz my ass will just sincerely take you at face value 99% of the time because who am I to say you’re making that up or not?? I don’t know your life. 

I was at a restaurant once and asked for a Nutella milkshake and hes like “oh we’re out of that” and I, being someone who doesn’t want to make their lives difficult was like “oh okay, chocolate milkshake” and he said they were out of that, so when i was like “Alright… water is fine then” he said they were out of water and it was only then that I began to process that he was PROBABLY fucking with me. 

No one can joke with me - at any time of the year - in public because I’ll just stare blankly as I am attempting to process and figure out the best way to respond but it will be JUST long enough to make YOU uncomfortable and think I’m an idiot.

something that people really dont understand about ADHD is that we dont “jump from one idea to the next”

we have very fast, very associative minds that connect ideas. we have a train of thought, it just goes WAY faster than yours!

example: im thinking about dogs. that makes me think of pitbulls, which makes me think of an animal planet show i enjoy. the show connects to tv in general, which makes me think of my favorite cartoon. i associate my favorite cartoon with art and animation, and i wind up thinking about shading techniques.

TL;DR: having ADHD is kinda like playing a lifelong game of 7 Degrees of Kevin Bacon

I am plagued by this but also that associative learning makes it really easy to be a hyper-generalist in terms of skills and knowledge.

The downside is, very few people can keep pace with these jumps, and I’ve actually been told my “mind leaps” are annoying.

Being told that the way my mind makes connections between Point A and Point D while seemingly bypassing B and C is “annoying”.

It drives my husband absolutely NUTS- we’ll be having a conversation and in a lull between sentences I’ll have jumped ahead six topics, pop back in with a “Yeah, and-“

Meanwhile, he’s looking at me like I’ve grown another head. To him, whatever I’ve just said is a total non sequitur, but I can track EXACTLY how I got there… it just doesn’t make any sort of sense to anyone but me.

like okay. okay. I'm trying to not start things lately I really am. but ppl on here will be like "omg isn't it so cringey when people make their whole personality [fandom, a certain hobby, a certain interest, etc]? isn't it so funny when people don't get sarcasm? isn't it hilarious when people have inappropriate (but harmless) emotional reactions? isn't it weird when people talk too formal? isn't it embarrassing when adults still like media? isn't it stupid and immature when adults are still socially anxious??? btw I LOVE my autistic siblings!!!!! wow!!! no hate xoxo 💖"

stop shaming people for being passionate about the things that they love. stop mocking people for having unusual interests. like, honestly, i'm so tired of feeling embarrassed for being "too much". if being too much means having deep interests that fill my life with romanticism and excitement, then let me be!!! i'd much rather listen to anyone ranting about their latest obsession with 16th century swords than have a boring ordinary conversation with those who shame passionate people
