"Hey now, not every single thing I do is some nefarious master plan to corrupt the gentle nature of the lands or whatever. I never thought I could actually start a business, I was just curious how and why that place seems like a black hole of information, promise." He rose both of his hands up in a placating manner, Rebel though she was, Akali was still of the Kinkou, in one way or another.
He doubted she'd attack him for just making a joke, but he'd also rather not find out if he could regenerate from a kunai to the throat. Below, one of the opponents punched the other hard enough to have teeth flying, causing the crowd the cheer.
"I'm just curious how for a society of secretive hardasses, you seemed to have escaped their clutches pretty easily." Grins. "Is the family not sending ninja death squads at you, are you beating them, or is that just not the Kinkou way?"
She breathed a chuckle at the sight of his raised hands. "I wasn't planning on hurting you, Sett." Not without a good reason, anyway. "Looks like your favorite guy is winning." She tried to steer the conversation elsewhere.
But of course, Akali was never as good at deflecting as she was at killing. "I walked out through the front door, if you wanna know. And they let me, because they aren't the type to force people to stay where they don't want to be. If the Kinkou were the violent organization you imagine them to be, don't you think the Eye of Twilight would have already gathered them all to push back against Noxus during the very first invasion?" And yet, neither the previous leader nor the current one seemed particularly inclined to act against the external threat.
She didn't comment on it, but her eyes grew dangerously dark when he used the word "family." Sore spot found—if he was even looking for one. "And you still haven't given me a real reason. This isn't something you just ask out of the blue without having something in mind. If you want help—and you give me a good reason for it—I might help you. You don't need to reach out to them."
"My favorite guy? Weird, I'm not down there fighting" He chuckled at his own dumb joke, standing up at the next cheer. Motioning to his office in the distance, he listened carefuly, noting how her tone shifted ever so slightly to show her dissaproval. Better be careful of where I step, he thought.
"Fine fine, if you so wanna know I'll let you in on some inner secrets. Never say I don't do anything for you." Closing the doors behind them, he went to his desk and pulled out a report handing it to Akali. "A group claiming to be the order of Shadows is making some noise in the underground, wanting to learn about the Kinkou and it's secrets. Obviously we refused, we are not suicidal, but some other people are already on the move trying to find info...my people had a better question though..."
He uncorks one of the expensive licor bottles and serves himself, leaving the bottle and a glass close to the ninja in case she wanted some. "Mainly...why would the Order of Shadows want info about an Order they left? Shouldn't they have that info? And if they don't, I'd think the other ninjas would try to find it themselves rather than hiring thughs for it..."
Shrugs.
"I dunno. Smells fishy. I think someone is pretending to be Zed's guys for info. Any idea who?"
@chaotick-musings:
"So like, what exactly is the Kinkou's security like? No need to spill the secrets or anything like that, but I can usually smuggle weapons in and out pretty consistently from even the most secure of places, but that lil ninja den eludes me" Sett asks as he sips his drink and leans back into his chair, watching the fight below.
"Okay, and why exactly would I tell you that?"
Akali kept her back pressed comfortably against Sett's highchair, one arm folded beneath her chest while the other twirled a kunai lazily around her finger. Her mask was up, her gaze fixed on the fight happening in the arena below, but her attention was entirely on the Boss.
"I left, sure, but that doesn't mean I'd betray them like that." The Kinkou was, despite everything, the only real home and family she'd ever had. She was still royally pissed at Shen, yeah— just not enough to hand their secrets over to some outsider. "No one in the Kinkou is buying weapons from you, Sett. And I seriously doubt they'd be willing to part with a single blade of theirs."
She finally moved to face the half vastaya, eyes narrowing.
"So what's your real objective here?"

Kromch kromch kromch-
Sett hadn't noticed it at first because he was neck deep into his accounting book, but then he noticed that the kronch was louder than usual, so he rose his gaze and...
"Is that a...can? ...is that safe?"
"Is that like the block of salt that you explained to me you had to lick--?"
@darkin-of-shurima
"If I can kill five of them before they realize we are here, you have to buy me ramen tonight!" (Akali to Sett @ioniawrath - she is going for a penta)
Sett raised an eyebrow from their hiding spot. "You are an assassin, I'm a brawler. You can kill people from the shadows, I'm practically made to be a show--"
Sighs and smiles.
"Fine. They notice you, you buy"
@ioniawrath
Her sister's wail crushed against her like waves upon a cliff, strong though they may be, her own steel conviction was even stronger. Forced to grit her teeth and buckle under the weight, she refused to let those emotions in, to infect her, like weeds in her pure garden. Still, a part of her was horrified to see her sister so hurt, that was always Morgana's cross to bear, even as Kayle had tried and tried to guide her into the 'proper' way to handle her powers. A hand reached out to struggle against the chains, was it to comfort her sister? Was it to try to attack her?
Not even Kayle herself knew.
Regardless, she didn't have to. When the mortal spoke up her first instinct was to demand her silence, but considering her words and that she was advocating for her own punishment, she decided to keep her mouth shut until the chains were gone and her sister began to use her powers to remove the negative emotions from her.
"This does not change my judgement, if you were hoping for clemency or mercy with this display, there won't be any. But I applaud your self awareness and understanding that your punishment is earned." She waited patiently for her sister to be done, out of respect for her and her position, but her hand never left the hilt of her sword. When the final word of permission was uttered, in a split second she swung her sword and parted the criminal's head from her body, before those two were engulfed in flames and turned to ash. The mother practically had no moment of 'dying', one moment she existed, the next she didn't.
"Well, that's that then..." The aspect of Justice seathed her weapons and sighed, truly this matter had been extended for longer than it needed to. Her gaze switched to her sister and the orb of dark emotions. "You best get rid of that sister. Unbound emotions are a quick way to summon demons into the fray..."
There was a long moment of silence before she spoke up again.
"Have you been....well?"
CW Infant Death
"DON'T!"
The binding was cast more on instinct than a deliberate choice. The purple fiery chains wrapped around Kayle, shackling her where she stood, forcing her to the ground. Most of the chain links wrapped around the arm holding this accursed sword in a bid to make it immovable.
Morgana had staggered out of the dark like an accursed harbinger, a warning that arrived a moment too late. The two aspects stood in a small hut of clay. Before them sat a sobbing young woman, maybe twenty years of age. She was craddling a swaddled infant in her arms, rocking back and forth. A cracked bowl with a meagre portion of porridge lay beside her. The infant lay as heavy and as still as a rock in the woman's arms. Tears flooded out of her eyes, which looked too large in this emaciated face.
Morgana stared at her sister and urged once more: "Put the sword down, sister. Can't you see the ribs under this woman's robes? Can't you see how spindly her limbs are? How sunken her face is? She has not been able to feed her child for weeks. She's starving too, and she lost herself in that feeling. This act does not need punishment. This delirium is born from despair, not cruelty. She does not deserve death for this deed. Show some compassion, Kayle. A child is dead, and its mother will have to carry the memory of what she has done for the rest of her life."
Her sister always had something for dramatic entrances, in a way perhaps that was something they both shared. Still, Kayle's sword had been merely inches away from the sinner's neck before it was stopped, chains of pure emotion rising from the floorboards and binding her arm with needless feelings.
"Morgana. You know the deal we made, we wouldn't stand in one another's way, and yet you come to me to plead mercy for this sinner? What care I for her weakened frame, for her ailments? She commited a sin, and sins must be punished, no matter the reason behind them" She tugged on her chains, enough to show she was being serious.
If Kayle tried to, she could break out of these bindings, and then Morgana would create stronger ones, and so she'd have to put more force into breaking out of those, and on and on until Demacia was once again a crater. Both wanted to avoid the outcome, and SHE would rarely back down, so it was merely a matter of time before her sister did so...lest Zeffira's tragedy be repeated on her head.
"Come now, if she's starving and hurting then you may find my punishment a mercy, to relieve her of her pain. Let go of me sister, justice must be done, no matter the reasons. A child is dead, the mother is the culprit, the mother shall be punished. Simple as"
@beastialshimmer
There was something in the dragon's tone that irritated Kayle, maybe it was the fact that she had asked for the angel's opinion and when for some reason she had decided to be honest and open up about things, the dragon was quick to dismiss her. Or maybe her tone was just annoying her, that could just as easily be the case.
Her mind went back to Morgana, something that always made her mood even worse, thinking that the dragon was acting as unreasonable as her sister would, hence her annoyance. A deep part of her she'd never heed instead made the more accurate connection that Shyvana was acting like she herself would, and she was angry at that.
"Fine fine, whatever you need to hear from your own mouth say it, I don't care to hear it anymore if you don't wish to hear my own advice" When she felt the heat rising from behind her and the dragon showed her true form by jumping in front, Kayle could only react by tilting her head and raising an eyebrow. "Really? You wish to prove just how special and unique you are in this entire world with an ego stroking competition? You are even more Demacian than you know..."
Still, she was sure that the woman would insist on this competition unless she was placated...so she might as well fall on her sword and crush her spirit now. "Very well...apologies in advance to your ears." In a split second Kayle's wings spread open like a shining twilight, shone brightly, and then she shot up silently up to the sky. The boom of the sonic barrier breaking followed soon after.
She was unsure how fast this dragon would be, but there was one thing that rung true beyond doubt, power was something the aspect had in spades, and it was quite easy to put that power in her speed. In the lenght of a breath, she was already up in the skies, waiting for Shyvana to embarass herself and try to keep up.
"Two ladies fighting for me, everyone's dream." She said in a somewhat sarcastic tone.
"No...hang on...now they are just fighting because they offended each other...is that better or worse?"

Kalli lightly tugs on Sett's coat. She Ottrani looked troubled by something. "Settrigh, do you eventually want to make babies with me?"
@chaotick-musings
Sett blushes hard and looks away, but he makes sure to put an arm around her. "I do but...why are you so eager to have kids so fast? I mean, me and Dira waited a bit--"
"I thought I didn't want children. I was fine with the idea of never being a mother," she began, her hold on her mate's jacket tightened. "But you and Dira changed my feelings where children are concerned. I thought that having children would limit my freedom and stop me from pursuing my passions. A common occurrence in my home village."
"After spending time with your children and being accepted into your family, I've come to realize that I've always wanted children, but not at the cost of my freedom," she leaned into Sett, making sure not to poke him with her horns. "I suppose I'm rushing it because I'd like for our offspring to still be close in relative age with your other children."
He listened carefully and then slowly, gently, moved to scoop her up into her arms. "Well...it's not like we can't take care of more kids. And Momma would certainly not mind more grandchildren. I'd have to ask Dira, but I'm sure she'd not mind either. But sitll, I still believe you are rushing it a bit. It'd be nice if everyone was close together, but already Kion is like 5 years older, so relatively close is...well, relative"
Smirks at her when he pulls her up to his shoulder.
"Tell you what...we'll try it out. Take it slow, but won't drive ourselves crazy. When it happens it happens." Kisses her leg. "Sound good?"
"Mornin', Sett." Soldan yawned, once arriving at the pit. She was awake, but not mentally quite yet. "Got here early to warm up before the matchess sstart today. It took me a good few minutess to get ready, wasn't too much of a hassle."
"Hey there Snakey...woah hey, are you sure you are up yet Soldan? You look like you still have the pillow attached to the side of your head" He moves up to her and checks if she's sick, since she can be a bit stubborn about that. Nothing. Just being diligent he guesses. "Alright, make sure to properly stretched and that all your gear is ready. And take a coffee or something, a snake yawning can be a very scary tactic, but it might cause you a fang too"

Long overdue redesign of her pit fighting uniform. Made it more streamlined, and a better hairstyle. :D Kayn and Rhaasts' wife who can get very violent, and Sett being proud of her hard work. Cuddles included of course.
Look at this sick as fit!
Kayle, Morgana and the morality of justice
So, saw something recently that in my opinion kinda misinterprets the sister's dynamic and what it represents, and I wanted to let it go but my brain started doing it's thing so now I wanted to talk a bit about them.
For those who don't know, Kayle and Morgana each represent half of the Aspect of Justice, and by that I mean it literally, each is incomplete without the other. Kayle represents Retributive justice and Morgana represents Restorative Justice, in other words Kayle is about punishing wrongdoing, Morgana is about fixing why the wrongdoing happened.
As time went on from when they got their power, each would slowly start to represent their different versions of justice more and more, which caused a lot of personal problems for Morgana as her justice is more empathic, but in the case of Kayle, the problems are for everyone else
Often times I see people wondering why Kayle is the one that's a bit more demonized in the lore, when the answer is quite obvious, when you go overboard with 'An Eye for an Eye' half the world ends up blind. When you believe that a hungry thief should have his hand cut because he stole an apple, you end up with a hungry man with a stump.
Justice means punishment for Kayle.
There is no redemption, there is no improving, there barely is a repenting. What matters is that you commited a crime, and you are being punished for it, because that is what justice is.
By contrast, the worst thing that can happen when Restorative justice goes overboard is that sometimes someone who deserves the punishment walks free or time is wasted trying to reform them. And while true in some cases, most people that commit crimes don't do it because they are irredeemable, but because they are desperate, and if you can help them they will improve. Demonstrably so.
And mind you, Kayle is also lucky to live in a fantasy world that actually has monsters and horrors beyond human comprehension where she can objectively be the good guy by simply swinging her swords at them. Don't get me wrong, some people certainly do deserve their heads being parted from their bodies, but it's not the mayority.
The point that I'm trying to get at is that while both versions of justice are wrong while not applied correctly, there's only one that in excess becomes immoral. There's only one that when taken to it's logical extreme ends up with the punishment for every crime, ANY crime, means death.
Let chaos reign
