The way Maddy didn’t lie when she told Cassie “bitch you’re my soulmate.” In the end Maddy is pretty much the only thing Cassie has, and vice versa. With the one thing that divides them gone they can finally reconnect. It’s pretty poetic that they end up with nothing but each other, like they were destined for one another.
Cassie always assumed that male validation was what she needed to feel at peace, which caused her to dismiss the importance of female relationships, ultimately causing the divide between her and Maddy. I think her and Maddy pretty much “ending up together” was the best possible outcome for Cassie. No man is ever going to replace her father and fill the void inside of Cassie. No man has ever shown her the unconditional love that Maddy has proved she has for Cassie. Her ending her story with someone like Maddy, who’s willing to forgive and stay loyal to her despite all of her flaws is all Cassie needs to be able to find herself outside of male validation. With the love from Maddy she can learn to appreciate the importance of love from other women, not just men.
