I genuinely cannot understand why there's so many people insisting that current Prototype – and most if not all the other experiments – are still children by the point the game happens. Like, Huggy and Kissy? They still very much act like children, but to insist on the Prototype or even BBI Dogday being children feels so strange, like.
BBI Dogday – and most of Safe Haven on Chapter 4 – do not talk like children, much less have childish voices. They were kids when it all happened, yes, but there's very, VERY little canonical argument that they are incapable of growing up/mentally maturing/developing their brains after the toy-ification process. It's only natural that some of them have childish traits as a result of trauma, yes, but having childish traits is not the same as being a child and there's a BIG difference in the two of them.
Not only that, but... To look at the Prototype in the eye, knowing all the canon material we know of him, and still believe he is NOT an adult? He's 50 years old at minimun when the game starts (yes timeline is wacky, but even if he was made in the 80s he would be on his 30s-20s minimun by 2005)! He does not act like a child, much less resembles one, MUCH LESS thinks like one – not just because of his Hour of Joy plans, but everything he did before AND after the HoJ screams "this man was adultified as a child and now that he's an adult he does not know how to navigate his emotions nor does he know what a world without pain and experimentation is like". He is mature – his trauma had aged with him. To me at least it feels SO obvious he's an adult with several traumas who doesn't know he has several traumas I cannot see him in any other way.
