“…Denki…”

Her face got even darker and she stared at him when he said all if those words out loud. Golden eyes blinked a couple of times and she could feel her heart skip a few beats in her chest. Did he…know that she liked him? Is that why he said she made him feel loved? Was it..that obvious…how she felt? She tried to be as platonic as possible! Was it too much!? If so…

…Was he going to reject her?

She felt so nervous all of the sudden, her mind piecing together different scenarios as her anxiety started to rise. Mina felt like she was caught between a rock and a hard place as her body starter to tremble…

She looked away from him.

“….Are my feelings that obvious? Is that…a bad thing? To make you feel loved because I…like you?”

The feeling of her trembling in his arms makes him freeze, eyes widening.

OH NO....he upset her, didn’t he? He said too much and now she was uncomfortable, she didn’t want to be near him anymore. He fucked up and now he had to face the consequences of his words. Dammit, he was such an IDIOT, this was why he couldn’t keep the good things, he always ruined everything.

Sitting up from where he was laying in her lap, he sits beside her now, staring down at his own lap. He should apologize, he NEEDS to apologize, he can’t lose Mina just because he couldn’t keep his own feelings under wraps. He can’t lose someone  second time because he allowed himself to fall too deep for them.

Lips part to speak, but she beats him to it.

...what?

Gaze snapping towards her, he finds he can only stare for a moment, slitted pupils dilating slightly. She liked him? NO, this must be a joke, people didn’t LIKE Kaminari Denki, people TOLERATED him at most, but they didn’t like him, not in the way she was saying she did.

The blonde perks up at the sound of Momo’s voice and he looks to her, golden hues shining with excitement.

“ Heck yeah! I’ve never actually done that before! ” He chirps, quickly falling into step by her side so they could go into the kitchen. It wasn’t a lie or a joke, either, his family never did ginger bread houses, they did sugar cookies, but that was about it. He’d always been intrigued by decorating a ginger bread house, but he never had the chance.

Well, until now at least.

Slim, pink fingers played with his hair gently and she hummed to herself, looking down at him when she spoke and grinned widely. She cared about Denki a lot—it was almost as if she couldn’t help it. Her own cheeks were a darker shade of pink and a soft giggle escaped her lips as her own golden eyes locked onto his. The sound of the tv was drowned out by this point—he was her only focus at the moment.

He was cute when he got all flustered like this and when she felt him roll over and wrap his arms around her torso, she laughed warmly as she felt his face in her stomach, moving her hands from his hair and leaning down to wrap her arms around his head, hugging him. Mina liked spending time like this with him and she felt he deserved to be told nice things…especially when she meant every word she said.

“Now way! I meant it, you know! I’ll say it again a hundred times!”

He grumbles against her stomach softly when she embraces him, arms tightening around her slightly. How do people accept this type of affection and compliments? Denki lived off platonic affection, don’t get him wrong, but this felt...different, Mina felt different. Why? Why was everything different with her?

She talks and he can feel the flush on his face darkening, he can’t look up, not when she’s saying things like this!

And yet he finds himself wanting to say sweet things back. He wants her to know how much he cares about her, how much she meant to him. She was one of the first people  he felt welcomed by, she made him feel safe, cared about. She made him feel loved and he wanted nothing more than to let her know that.

And then his mouth closes and the realization that he said all of that out loud hit him.

“ Uh- ”

“ Don’t compliment me then and I won’t catch feelings. Simple. ” He sticks his tongue out at them before huffing and raising a hand to gently bonk their head.

“ Well, I think it is, so shut. ”

Sprinkles? How did he get sprinkles in his hair?

Baking cookies for christmas was one of the few traditions Denki maintained after moving to the dorms and it was one of the few baking activities he was good at. Getting the others to trust him with it had been an experience, but here he was now, a tray of sugar cookies sitting on the table, each one slightly different than the next in design, flour on his apron, and, apparently, sprinkles in his hair.

“ How many? Do I need to go outside to shake them out? ” He questions, hands hovering near his head, not risking to touch his hair when he had icing on his fingers.

They’re just laying together in the common room, a movie playing on the tv with his head resting in her lap. The feeling of her fingers running through his hair was relaxing and he could feel himself on the verge of dozing off when she speaks up, catching his attention.

‘ You’re my best Christmas Present this year. ‘

Golden hues snap open and he rolls onto his back to stare up at her, the words processing in his mind. They were so...sweet and he didn’t know what to say at first. No one had ever said something like that to him before and he didn’t know what to do.

Red slowly rises to his cheeks the more he thinks about it and his gaze darts downwards, a hand raising to fidget with the front of his shirt, looking away from her slightly. Did she even mean it? Was she joking?

She wouldn’t joke like that, though, would she..?

Rolling onto his side, he snakes his arms around her torso and presses his face into her stomach.

“ Hush. ”

The blonde perks up at the exclamation, looking up from the music sheet he’d been looking over to instead look at Nikko. They’d been practicing the new sheet music he’d gotten from his mother for a while now, so he got why the other wanted to do something else, but christmas lights?

Setting his guitar to the side, he stands up and closes the booklet, setting it down on his bed.

“ If we do, you better wear something warm. The last thing I need is you getting sick on me! ”

under a read more bc of how much there is here we gooooooo some of these are on his about, but I’m putting them here, too, since they are headcanons

->> He has lightning scars going from the tips of his fingers, up his arms, and across his back. Before training at UA, he didn't have really good control of his quirk and so he had to wear quirk suppressing cuffs, which proceeded to make him very pent up and so when he got to use his quirk during the entrance exams, it overwhelmed his person and left the scars.

->> Due to not ever using his quirk growing up, never getting training to control it since it was so dangerous, it makes his brain become overwhelmed when he overuses it, thus the "Dunce" state he goes into sometimes. He hates it and is genuinely hurt when the others tease him for it, but he doesn't really say anything.

->> Having his quirk suppressed terrifies him now. Growing up with it suppressed for 10 years, he's scared of losing control like he did during the entrance exam. While he did take out a *lot* of robots, he never wants to lose control of his quirk or himself like that again.

->> He didn't actually ask his parents for permission to apply to UA because he didn't want them to say no. He wants to help people and so he snuck away the morning of the exams, sneaking off to UA and asking another participant to break the cuffs, saying they were "bracelets that he couldn't get off after they were put on". While they're proud of him now and support his dreams, they did not at first.

->> Denki is somewhat flirtatious towards the girls of his class (and even the ones from other classes), a large reason for this being that this is how he was taught to act by his father and on top of that, he's still coming to terms with his sexuality. Taught that he was only supposed to like girls, when he had his first crush on a boy, he had a panic attack and proceeded to push the guy friend away, not knowing any other way to deal with it. He's gotten better since attending UA and meeting others who like the same gender, but he's still trying to come to terms with it, thus his flirtatious nature.

->> Due to his severe adhd, he requires a lot of help at studying due to his incapability of focusing on school duties and classes. He has difficulty focusing during class, gets easily bored from lectures due to this, and suffers anxiety attacks when dealing with tests, at which point he becomes increasingly agitated and aggressive. Despite showing a lack of tact and smarts in and outside school, Denki may give off the impression of being stupid or foolish, leading others to throw snide remarks at him or underestimate his capabilities as a hero, yet he's not actually stupid at all. He just can't focus.

->> He was bullied throughout middle school for being different, for needing quirk suppression cuffs, and yet despite this, he still tries to be nice to people. This is because he has an older brother who passed away right before UA that told him to be nice to everyone, no matter what they do to hurt you.

->> He learned how to play guitar from said brother and is decent at both acoustic and electric, but he prefers the energy that he gets from playing electric.

->> Literature is Denki's favorite ( and best ) subject, hands down. It's the one class he can pay attention in because he associates it with music and nothing can distract him when he's in the music zone.
