HIJACKED (Agent Venom + Captain America)

Agent Venom staggered to his feet, immediately on the defensive as he watched the Super Soldier gather up the limp body of his foe. It was hard to think, madness creeping in around the edges of his thoughts, Jack’s taunts ate through him like a disease. “Turn myself in?” his voice broke, the edge of manic hysteria in his tone. “You mean you’re not in on it, Cap? Don’t you know that I’m worsethan he is, that I’m the real monster here?” He laughed, twisted and mirthless.

"If S.H.I.E.L.D. was willing to send that psychopath after me, offer him fucking amnesty in exchange for me, then I must be, Cap. Don’t tell me their golden boy wasn’t part of the deal, you must have known…" Venom snarled, backing up towards the edge of the roof. "You must have known…and if you didn’t, then maybe you should take a good hard look at the people giving you orders."

He leveled a finger at Captain America, violent threats bleeding into his voice. “You have a poor track record of keeping your enemies locked up, I’m proof enough of that. I swear, Cap, if you fuck this up, I will take it out of each and every one of you.The Lantern does NOT walk free, don’t you dare let S.H.I.E.L.D. get their hands on him or they might turn him lose again. I wanted to kill him…I want to more than anything. Don’t make me regret this decision or you will all pay for it.”

Steve stared at Flash for a long moment, eyes hard and unreadable. His brow furrowed as he idly readjusted the weight of bruised and battered psychopath on his shoulder. “S.H.I.E.L.D. doesn’t make deals with people like Jack, Thompson. Whatever he told you, he was lying. You should know better than that. That thing in your head is eating away at you, making you paranoid. All we ever wanted to do was to help you.”

Flash’s warning was not well received. There was a cold and silent anger in him as he spoke again. No blaze of righteous indignation or aggravated growl. It was a chilling fury that passed over his blue eyes, utterly calm and yet intense. “If you threaten my people again, I’ll kill you.”

Jack hadn’t seen that coming.

Well, he should have. But he’d grown cocky. Taking his eyes off of his adversary for one split second had been all that the piece of scum needed to regroup with the parasite and launch a powerful offensive. The force of the blow from the morning star shattered the side of his helmet and knocked him hard to his knees. Palms splayed out in front of him, bloodied and flecked with gravel from their sudden contact with the rough surface. The assassin snarled and turned over, crab shuffling away from the half-man that came after him.

He hissed when his head jerked with the force of the mask being ripped from his face, the smell of burning flesh reaching his nostrils- an all too familiar and sickening scent. The assassin fell back, surprised by the sudden strength his opponent was exhibiting- he’d underestimated Eugene. Not the first time it had happened. He swore inwardly, forced to the ground beneath the weight of the symbiote-clad soldier. The breeze felt cool upon his bared face and he stared up into Eugene’s eyes. Dark pools of madness, much like his own, he mused.

“We are alike, Eugene, don’t try to fight it,” he growled, tilting his head away from the man’s crazed smile. Somewhere deep inside he was pleased with himself, proud for having pushed the soldier this far.

The scythe came to rest on his forehead and he felt the sharp pain as it sliced through the first few dermal layers, sticky blood oozing to the surface. He could hear the alien parasite tainting Eugene’s voice, an eerie distortion dripping from his lips as he leant close. The soldier was enjoying this. Jack’s cheeks twitched upward in a smile, muddy eyes shining in delight, adrenaline piping through his veins, feeding on pain and twinges of fear.

“Birds of a feather, you and I. You just need to learn to control your urges, you’re all over the map. Me? I know what I like. I’m sure you have a type too,” he taunted, eyes narrowing and following the tentacle as it wrested the scythe from his grip. “You’ve made all sorts of enemies- you’ve gotta lock that down, Eugene. SHIELD came to me, just the other day. I can’t believe I forgot t’tell you this! It’s great news. For me, anyway. I work for SHIELD now.”

He couldn’t see the reaction behind the glossy eyes- it was like staring into the face of an oversized insect, his own reflection refracting across the surface of the symbiote’s armored lenses. Jack hoped he’d hit a nerve.

“That’s right,” he continued. “I’m a spook now. Well, more like a mercenary. Your little agent friend told me that SHIELD would give me a full-blown pardon in exchange for hauling your sorry ass in. I said that sounded like a sweet deal. Don’t you agree?”

The assassin stared the monster in the eye, letting his words settle like thick ashes falling through the smoke, settling on the black armor’s spiked shoulders. He shrugged, using the motion to disguise his hand moving toward a compartment on his belt. If he could just reach one of his ghost-grabbers. Fingers unsnapped the leather casing, delving inside, frantically extending toward the green, transparent substance.

“Killing ol’ Jack makes you no better than me,” he spoke gruffly, still squirming beneath the other man’s weight, attempting to pry loose the net. “Remember that, friend. You’ll always be a monster inside, with or without that disgusting thing. You enjoy this, draw it out as long as you need to- whatever helps you get off.”

Don’t try to fight it.

Would the scythe blade be sharp enough to carve through the thick skull? Jack did seem to prefer it, though it was infinitely less satisfying than the crunch of bone breaking between his teeth and the hot taste of blood. There would have to be a point when instinct would take over and his victim would fight, he’d have to. It would be futile, of course, but watching the assassin struggle for survival would be fun. Would those mocking eyes fill with fear as he cut deep or would he enjoy it too? How far could slice into the brain before death would release him? Venom ran his tongue across the shallow cut in Jack’s forehead leaving a slimy trail across scarred skin, suddenly so very hungry.

No, this wasn’t his type. This was slow and deliberate, too much thought behind each bleeding cut. He hunted like an animal stalking down prey, disorganized violence directed only by hate and hunger. There was no control over his urges; he killed with abandon, a mindless and feral creature that toyed with its victims. This was different, he could feel it, but there was still some of that same addicting brutality. It was the fear he looked for, the scrawny nerd or the deserving criminal, it had been the same story since he was a kid and breaking his fists on anyone weaker than he was. He craved absolute power over the powerless, their terror. Even now, that’s why the army had picked the Venom symbiote, right? The reputation and the fear associated with the creature, its history of destruction. He’d added his own fair share of exploits to that reputation. This must be how Jack saw the world. Every person a potential victim, weak and terrified, not just the criminals Flash was used to hunting.

Biting words finally made it through the haze of barely coherent madness, staying his hand. “S.H.I.E.L.D? Theyyy connntacted you tto hunt usss?”That couldn’t be possible. Of course the agency would hunt him, he was a criminal in their eyes and rightful so. He’d made a mockery of their security, breaking in and out of their headquarters to steal the symbiote and release the Asgardian. He’d killed their agents when they attacked, a personal blow to the people he used to work with. They were never going to let him just walk away no matter how he tried to prove to them he wasn’t a threat anymore, but to ally with a serial killer?

“You lieee!” Venom howled, fangs inches from Jack’s face. “They wwould never help you, evennn if it meant finding uss. They wannt us both, Jaack.” No, no this didn’t make sense. They couldn’t possibly think he was worse than Jack O’Lantern, could they? He shook his head, trying to clear the rage enough to think, armor bristling and barely in control. Agent friend…someone had betrayed him. Wiley, perhaps, or Grace or even Sharon. They were the only ones he knew well enough to have once called them friends. How could they turn on him so completely that they’d offer amnesty to a psychopath. Orders like this would come from the top, it was Fury’s words no matter who had extended the offer. It smelled like his kind of deal, always manipulating to get what he wanted and damn anyone caught in the crossfire.

“We…I…” He’d tried so hard to end all of this, to be better than this and still ended up the ‘greater evil’ in the eyes of those he used to trust. He stared back into that ruined face, one he’d shaped unwittingly. “I am not like you, Jack. The difference is, I can still choose.”

Flash put a clawed hand over Jack’s face, grabbing his head and slamming hard against the gravel to put him out. He resisted the urge to beat his skull against the ground until it cracked with all the willpower he possessed, slowly easing his hand back and making sure the assassin was still breathing.

“…fuck.”

Too close of a thing. He’d skated closer to the edge than he’d come before, almost crossing that line he’d never be able to come back from. He wasn’t the same, he wasn’t. Words repeated over and over in his mind, trying to convince himself that was the truth. Flash scrambled from the prone form of Jack, drawing into himself with his head in his hands. If S.H.I.E.L.D. was willing to work with that monster, then what the hell did it make him?

Steve strode forward, having watched the carnage unfold as the two had fought. Admittedly, as Corporal Thompson had held the psychopath in his arms, the man had been uncertain as to whether or not he would kill again. A soft, almost imperceptible, sigh of relief left him as the man beneath the monster restrained himself, stopped himself short. A pang of guilt ran through the Super Soldier. He had been wrong about Eugene. The man had been able to resist the symbiote, had not succumbed entirely to its influence as he had previously thought.

Silent, Captain America stepped over to the unconscious form of Jack O'Lantern, picking him up and throwing him over his shoulder. It was then that he turned his attention to Corporal Thompson. Today had seen enough bloodshed and destruction, and he could not in good conscience attempt to apprehend the man that had helped them win the day. Just the thought was like bitter ashes on his tongue.

Despite the flames of the dying fires and emergency sirens in the distance, it all felt eerily quiet now. Steve blew out another sigh, pulling back the cowl and idly brushing his mussed blond hair, "I don't suppose I can convince you to turn yourself in, Corporal Thompson. You better go while the going is good. I'm not in much of a mood to chase you today, soldier."

Emboldened by the Cap—Steve’simmediate response, Gwen threw her legs around his torso and settled her hips onto his lower abdomen.

He has to be Steve now. He’s just a man, Stacy.

It was so hard to remember that when just one hand was large enough to encompass the entire small of her back, and her weight seemed to matter nothing at all to him. In fact, Gwen had to wonder if he could feel her at all.

She deepened their kiss, the heat from her mouth turning desperate as she nipped at his lower lip. This was it. Enjoy it while it lasted. And a hundred other cliches that she couldn’t concentrate on for another minute.

God, but he was intoxicating. Intensely warm and attentive and large and male that Gwen just lost all the blood to her brain as it pooled farther down south. Somehow, she just came alive with him. That sexual part of her that she had denied for so long, terrified to get attached, just reared to life with him. Maybe because she felt so protected in his embrace.

As soon as the Blackbird had landed, Elizabeth had slipped away from the rest of the team to make her own way towards their intended destination. Stealth worked more effectively when alone, and the black material of her suit - meant for slinking around unnoticed - seemed useless if stood beside someone as colourful as Hank. With Maya Lopez to assist, she could only assume that the other female would prefer to take the helm as lead ninja on their smaller team of heroes, instead making the choice to concentrate her more uniqueabilities.

"Of course, Wiley," she chimed her reply quietly as she skirted around the boundary of the site and over a back wall whose creeping foliage trellis made for a useful ladder. The thick stink of burning filled the air, ashes and embers catching in the breeze to dance across a darkening sky. Giving the raging fire a wide birth, hearing a creak of surrender as roof beams gave way, heat causing her cheeks to flush, she kept to the shadows which seemed to constantly move in the ever-changing light. A motorbike engine’s roar cut through the crackling sounds of smouldering furniture as Betsy rounded a corner, using the cover of a few trees to stay out of sight. If Captain America wanted to be the man to fight up front, then she’d make use of her powers from afar.

"So what are we doing with this piece of scum? Do we have specific orders or am I free to make him bleed?" the telepath asked out of curiosity as she gave the slightest twitch of her fingers. Psionic energy had become easy for her to summon, using herself as a source to capture the pink matter and shape it into any weapon of choice. The crossbow formed in her hands: an elegant royalty to its medieval-style brutality. Barbed arrow set in, its point levelled squarely at their foe, she licked her lips in anticipation but was quick to frown as the wind turned against them. Smoke bellowing out of the burning building was quick to fill the surrounding area, lit here and there by the flames.

"There’s no bloody way we can fight him in this." Elizabeth blinked through it, eyes and throat stinging, hoping Shae’s cameras weren’t too affected. A loss of sight was the last thing they needed. "Echo, are you close? We could try luring him away. Find somewhere out in the open away from the fire. Give the others some space to rescue those left in harms way."

To think that I believed he couldn’t be any sicker. Tightening her fists in anger, Maya watched from atop a roof, the edges of her silhouette blurring with the dark of the sky. Feeling the gadget on her wrist vibrate, she sunk back down into the shadows and brought up the screen, reading what was going on through the transmitters live. Going to look over the edge of the roof again, Maya spoke clearly into her wrist. “Psylocke, I’m on the roof on your left.”

Moving her gaze from the telepath back to the smoke enveloped building in front of her, she evaluated the situation quickly. “I’ll try and get his attention. He and I have met before, and he knows I know Flash, so maybe I can use that to my advantage.” Taking another look at the area, she jumped down to the metal balconies down the side of her building and began to advance. “Cap, I hope you got that, too. When he’s out in the open, try and trap him. We don’t have time to bicker. Watch my back, you two.” The sooner they made a move, the sooner those kids could be saved, and that’s all that mattered to her.

Stepping out in the open, in clear view of the pumpkin headed maniac, Maya stood her ground, and tried not to choke as she spoke. “Jack O’Lantern. You want Flash’s, Venom’s, Eugene’s company, am I right? You remember me, do you not?” She stepped closer, then moved one foot back so her body suggested they go away from the burning building. “I’ve had a change of heart since our last talk. I can bring you to him, if you’re willing to believe that I can.”

A low, rumbling chuckle bubbled up from the assassin’s throat, watching the so-called “Avengers” rushed hurriedly into action. A few he recognized, like Captain America, roaring up on his chopper, and a few he did not- one that he could only assume was a mutant, covered from head to toe in blue hair. Jack was aware of the split in the groups, commending their use of tactics to solve the problem he had posed.

Rising smoke only obscured his vision, but he took comfort knowing that those sent to bring him down would be having an equally tough time. A bellowing roar caught his attention from the ground below, a flash of star-spangled metal whizzing toward him through the smoke-cover. He urged the broomstick to drop in altitude, the sound of whirling vibranium humming in his ear as it passed, its edge slicing into the leather of his “armor” at the shoulder.

The assassin grit his remaining teeth, hand moving to cover the wound. Nimble fingers tightened the buckle of a leather strap over the fabric, effectively staunching the flow of blood for the time being. He’d seen worse, he reminded himself, casually checking over his shoulder for any other unwelcome party guests. No sign of the real monster… yet.

“Hey there, Old Glory,” he called with a mock salute from his broomstick. “Where’s your friends at? Don’t they know there’s a bonfire goin’ on?”

Behind him, alerted to Psylocke’s presence by her throaty muttering, a pair of demonic, doll-like creatures rose from the rooftop, levitating in the air. Seemingly unfazed by the woman’s psionic energy, they advanced. “Leave Wacky Jacky alone!” one screeched, its high, piercing voice cutting through the thick air before they both expelled jet streams of fire from their gaping mouths.

Jack was distracted from the super soldier on the ground when a silent, dark form slipped into view on a nearby fire escape. He glided slowly forward, bringing her blurred form into focus when the wind shifted again. White, smeared handprint stood stark against the darkness and he squinted, recognizing the young woman’s voice when she called out to him.

“Maya,” he purred, eyes glinting from within the flaming mask. “I never forget a pretty face.”

The assassin tilted his head, flames dancing around the exterior of the helmet, listening to her speak. “Bring me to Eugene, right here amongst all of your friends? That seems a bit too sweet of a deal. If that’s the treat, what’s the trick, sweetheart?”

The agent frowned at her screens, several now blackened or obscured completely by smoke and debris. She thought she saw the pumpkin-head dodge Captain America’s shield, but couldn’t quite tell if it had clipped him or not. “You’re gonna need to get up off of the ground, Cap,” Shae said quickly, the clacking of keys filling the space of the office, nearly drowning out Nichols’s stuttering voice at her elbow. Her eyes darted toward the younger agent- he seemed to be doing fine. A lot of his screens were down as well, but he was able to direct Dr. McCoy, Dragonfly, and Eros with relative ease.

“There’s a fire escape on the building to your right, Rogers,” Shae said, scanning the images. The building’s metal structure would put the Avenger in a good position to potentially bring some pain down on the psychopath, as long as Maya continued to distract him. The camera that was focused on the ninja sputtered out and the agent shifted views again, scrambling to keep up a clear field of vision. She could hear Maya’s voice, reasoning with the madman, offering to lead him to Thompson. A clear bluff, but one that he may just grab at out of desperation. Regardless, it kept him occupied.

“-shit, Braddock, look out,” Shae barked a split-second before the tiny creatures began spitting fire. She punched at the keys in front of her, wildly attempting to switch to a camera that wasn’t obscured by smoke or offline because of fire damage. “What are those things?” she asked aloud, though didn’t expect an answer from the telepath. Jack had been expecting more than one challenger and had clearly set up some insurance- the fire, the dolls, who knows what else. Using one of the nearer cameras, she was able to zoom in on the rooftop, frowning at the screen. “You can back up maybe ten more feet- sorry, uh, three meters- before you hit the edge of the building, Braddock, try to get out of their range.”

She could see the glowing-headed man move through the air toward Maya, drifting through the smoke, his imagine cutting in and out on various screens. “Good, Maya,” she murmured, eyes flicking between Betsy and his demonic toys and Jack. Steve’s form soon came into view from another angle. “Rogers, see if you can unseat him while he’s distracted,” she said, nodding at the screen as if he could see her. The thought she’d had earlier came drifting back into her head- he’d obviously been expecting them… so what else did he have hidden away? Shae could barely see through the thick cover, hardly ideal conditions to guide her agents through a potential ambush.

Rogers nodded to Shae's voice, realizing a moment later that it wasn't as if she could see him agreeing with her. He slid the bike to a halt, leaping off of it in a smooth, simple, motion as he headed towards the building. Leaning down, he scooped up his shield along the way and then jumped to grab hold of the fire escape, climbing rather quickly and reaching the roof.

He saw Jack still flying about on his rocket-powered broomstick, prepared to launch another attack before noticing his mechanical minions attempting to burn Psylocke alive. The pumpkin headed psycho was trying to split their attention. Furrowing his brow, he turned his attention to the little automated imps, spinning and hurling his shield out again in a sweeping arc that sliced cleanly through them before returning to him.

Not one to waste time, he caught the shield and used the momentum to spin him back around and throw it again, this time directly at Jack, "Take him down!"

Leading him down the hallway, he stopped as they neared the stairs. “If you’re not going to suit up, you might want some weapons.”

Steve smiled again, "I'm an Avenger now, Bucky. My shield is the only weapon I need." There was a slight shrug that followed, "Guess I'll suit up, then. I'll meet you outside in a few minutes."

True to his word, after a few minutes he returned in full red, white, and blue regalia, the shield strapped to his arm. "So, where are we going?"

COME AT ME BROS (Jack + Agent Wiley + Captain America + Psylocke + Echo)

It was a cool evening despite the season, the first creeping taste of fall floating in on the wind. Some of the leaves on the trees were beginning to brown, more from lack of a good rain than anything, but they were sometimes knocked loose by the gentle summer breezes. They tumbled across the streets, gathering in the gutters and alleys, swirling into whirling dervishes when the wind picked up just right. He could not have picked a better evening to carry out his plan; it felt like fall and all the night needed was a few carved luminaries to complete it.

But first, a diversion. Or a signal. Yes, an Avengers signal. Silly that they didn’t have one, Jack thought idly, slowing to a stop in front of a building, reading the sign posted on its front. Not like they would answer, he thought with a small huff, eyes tracing the worn lettering.

Melrose Home for Boys & Girls, South Bronx

This would do nicely.

To be truthful, the assassin did not know which (if any) heroes would answer his call. If there were many, they would easily outnumber him, when really, he wanted to destroy his one true nemesis. He could not afford to be taken into custody by the Avengers just yet. Jack was disappointed in them and they needed to pay for their negligence. Disappointed that it had taken this long to meet face to face, disappointed that Eugene’s two pretty friends had slipped through his grasp the first time. Oh, he would take care of the beauties next, after he brought them Eugene’s cold, dead, corpse. First things first. Teach the city’s so-called heroes a lesson.

What Avenger would be able to resist the sound of screaming children? His eyes glimmered behind his pumpkin mask, hands reaching deep into his pockets, coming up with the brightly-colored grenades. Eyes flickered skyward, where he could see the dancing silhouettes of his robot friends, each holding a thin, greenish-silver substance between them. He had several pairs, each perched on intermittent rooftop corners, ready to ensnare those that threatened their master.

Tick tock, Avengers. Your time is up.

He drew back his arm and released, the grenade arcing high and hitting the glass at an angle, shattering before clattering along the wooden floor inside. He launched two more before ducking behind a post box. The three explosions were deafening. One more for good measure. Another explosion, this time the already lit flames blasting through the windows on the lower floor. He could already hear the occupants beginning to stir.

Oh, this will be fun.

"Nichols, report to the comms office. Stat."

"Did you drop your cru-"

"-No. Shut up. This is an open channel. Get in here."

The young agent shuffled into the office, slipping through the barely opened door before it swished closed behind him. Agent Shae Wiley sat at her desk, her face awash in the blue-white glow of several computer monitors. She didn’t look at him when he entered, nor offer a greeting, before she began throwing information at him. “We’ve got reports of a three alarm fire in the Bronx. It was just a blip on our radar at first, but it’s a slow night so I decided to pull up some footage of the scene, and guess what I saw?” The brunette typed furiously, pulling up several images on the screens, each with a fire blazing in the background, just out of the frame.

"Jack," she said, stretching to point at one screen with the end of her pen, glancing back over her shoulder to see that the young man was paying attention. There, on the screen, was a figure hovering in the upper left corner, a blaze of fire indicative of his vehicle of choice, and the orange-y glow of his pumpkin-head contrasting against the night sky. "Dr. McCoy has been alerted and is leading a team on a recovery mission for the inhabitants of the building. I cross referenced the address- it’s a children’s home." Shae frowned, listening to the chatter in her earphones. "There was some kind of mix up or something with the nearby fire departments- their scanners got scrambled, so they’re just now on their way. Our teams will most likely beat them there. I need you on point for the rescue team. Call out what you see and watch their backs," she said quickly, pointing at the chair she’d dragged across the room and positioned at one end of her desk, pointed toward its own set of screens.

The brunette swiveled in her own chair, injured leg anchored to an old computer tower below the desktop, her other leg curled beneath her. Her eyes flickered from screen to screen, watching for movement. The pumpkin-headed villain still had yet to move- he was watching the building burn, reveling in it. Members from the team that Henry McCoy had put together were en-route, along with a few extra helping hands.

A flash of movement drew her attention and she keyed in a few commands, linking the S.H.I.E.L.D-issued earpieces together onto one channel. Deft fingers moved over the keyboard, giving her the ability to move along the city streets as though she were flying just above the sidewalks. She caught sight of a motorcycle weaving through traffic- a familiar emblem strapped across the rider’s back. “Captain Rogers, I’ve got eyes on you. You’re three blocks out. Take an immediate right- there’s a stalled vehicle up ahead. Cut through that alley and go up two more streets. You should see the fire at your nine o’clock, your bogey will be at your ten.”

"Braddock, Lopez, watch out for each other out there. I don’t have nearly enough knowledge on what kind of tech he’s packing. I won’t be able to communicate with Lopez as well as you, Braddock, so be careful."

Shae paused, locating the other two women on two separate screens as they slipped through the darkness. Jack was going to have a helluva time dealing with this. So why was he just… waiting? It was unsettling, to say the least. The agent leaned forward, chewing on the end of her pen cap, eyes narrowed and focused as the heroes drew nearer to their target.

The commotion had caught Steve's attention and he had been quick to answer, getting onto his motorcycle and speeding down the street, deftly avoiding the traffic. And then there was a voice in his head, the tiny earpiece coming to life. He recognized it immediately as belonging to Agent Wiley. "I'm already on my way."

He took her advice, swinging around and cutting through the alley. Though he was still injured from his fight with Venom, he ignored the thrumming pain in his shoulder or the many bruises he'd collected trading blows with the symbiote. All that mattered was the mission: protect the civilians and apprehend the masked psychopath.

True to Shae's word, he first caught sight of the burning build and then the bastard behind it. Speeding towards him, he pulled the star spangled symbol of freedom off of his back and, with a roar as he put all of his Super Soldier strength behind it, throwing his mighty shield.

Everything was ringing, disorented from the blow and Venom staggered to his knees clutching his head. Even through the armor, it hurt and his vision blurred. "Ung….damn it…." All right Cap, let’s go. Didn’t want to do this, risky I might not be able to stop but you’re not leaving me a choice. Armor shifted sleeker, the creature growing and distorting as Flash let the symbiote play. It launched itself at Captain America with an inhuman howl, claws battering down against the vibranium shield. The enemy was too fast, too quick to block, no way to get through the shield and attack flesh. He knocked the super soldier back against the brick wall of the alley, pinning him with an oozing hand.

"You never listen, none of you!" Venom hissed, tongue leaving wet trails of saliva as it wrapped itself around Cap’s neck. "This is your last warning, Captain America. You or your people come for me again, and wwe will eatttt every lassst one of themm." It pressed its clawed hand against Steve’s face, symbiote flowing thick like tar as it forced itself down his throat and through his nasal passages to his brain. Smother him, choke him until he stopped moving. Leave him limp and broken in the dirt!

Steve had been in war, fought for years against the Nazis, against Hydra. Every day people died. It was only natural then that he had accepted the fact that he could very well die. But he had no intentions of letting his life end at the hands of some alien monstrosity. Reaching up with shaking hands, suffocating as he was, he still managed to grab hold of the thing's head and shove his thumbs into its eyes until they bled, then going deeper.

He fell over onto the alley floor, heaving and expunging the disgusting black ooze from his system. It felt awful, but once again he pushed himself to his feet and picked up his shield. It wouldn't take long for Venom to heal and recover, just as strong as ever, but he give up. Not now. Not ever.

His head swam, but he forced himself to focus, wiping away a trail of obsidian slime from beneath his nose, "You're not killing anyone else today."

Flash stumbled back, momentarily stunned from the blow. Damn it, the man really could hit hard. He grabbed the super soldier by the front of his uniform, driving his clawed hand into Cap’s shoulder wound. The hand melted into a gaping maw, biting deep and tearing through flesh. "This is WAR, old man! You forget what that means? Some people deserve to die." Venom roared, lifting Captain America above his head and threw him down the alleyway like a ragdoll, hatred increasing the symbiote’s strength.

"You never trusted me, all you see is Venom. I don’t give a crap what you think I am, I’m the one doing your job because you’re all such god damn cowards!” He needed to get out of here, he could feel his control slipping. Too much anger and too much of it personal. First Spider-Man then Captain America, the heroes he’d looked up to now saw him as just another villain and the betrayal cut deep. And then Gwen, Cap taking the one last thing that made him feel human with all his talk about heroes. Maybe the star spangled man could hold onto his pretty ideals, but he lived in some kind of old fashioned fantasy. If he couldn’t see the ugly truth of this business, he was a fool.

Get out before you lose it for real, Thompson. Don’t play around with personal vendettas until McCoy can finish the tranqs, you’re too unstable for this, too long letting the symbiote ride you unchecked. Let’s not be the one to kill Captain America. Muscles bulged grotesquely as Agent Venom heaved a heavy metal dumpster into the air, flinging it after the super soldier to cover his escape.

"I know what war is! This isn't war! You're just out to get revenge, and damn anyone else who gets in your way." He winced at the claws in his arm, but he wouldn't budge. At least, not until Venom picked him up and threw him. He slammed into the ground and rolled, hand falling limply across a smooth metal dome. His shield.

A smile reached his busted lip, and he pushed himself back to his feet. It didn't matter what Venom threw at him, didn't matter how hard the symbiote punched back, Steve would always stand back up. "Cowards? A coward runs from every fight, a coward kills, a coward uses his strength to hurt innocent people. You're the coward here. A spineless little brat. And I'm done talking."

He watched the dumpster as it was hurled at him, running straight towards it before leaping and vaulting across it. The shield slammed down on the symbiote's head, a heavy *CLANG* as it collided. At the same time, he brought his knee up into the beast's face. True to his word, he didn't say anything. This fight wasn't going to end until either he was dead or Venom surrendered.

Fireworks [Steve + Gwen]

This was probably the last time Gwen would see him like this. Steve was a man with brains and ears, he would most likely hear about her meeting with Max. No matter what they discussed, to be seen with him implicated her in something nefarious. But this night wasn’t about any of that. They needed to forget all the stress and just get to know each other. In a biblical sense.

Candles seemed inappropriate given Jack’s love of wax and fire. So Gwen had strewn Steve’s roof with fairy lights, wrapping the railings along the ledge instead of shrubbery. The lights glowed with the rest of the New York skyline and she had to smile. They were both New Yorkers—born and bred. A home of thousands that waved good-bye and welcomed with skyscrapers and alleyways and hole-in-the-walls. Nothing, in her mind, could be more romantic.

Gwen readjusted the straps on her pale pink teddy, the silk gliding over the full roundness of her breasts. Sure, the night air chilled against her bare legs, and the wool blanket itched lightly against her thighs. But she loved lingerie, particularly this one. Feminine and mature, as it lightly outlined her torso and stopped at the very top of her thighs.

Steve had been eminently curious about what Gwen was up to with her text, a small smile on his lips as he made his way to the roof. Rather than take the elevator as any sane person might, he decided he could use the exercise and ran up the stairs. It wasn't a particularly tall building, to be sure, but most other people in his position would have been absolutely exhausted by the steady climb, especially going at his speed. For his part, the Super Soldier barely broke a sweat, wiping the first beads from his forehead as he stepped out onto the roof.

The sight that awaited him was both surprising and very pleasant. For a woman as logical and seemingly shy as Gwen was, she had a real talent for seduction. That first night, Ms. Stacy in nothing but his shirt, the way the hem slid up and down her legs as she moved had never left his mind. It was just one of those images so striking that you couldn't really forget it, even if you wanted to. Though, seeing her in the pink teddy, waiting upon the blanket for him, was proving to be an equally stunning image of its own.

"Gwen," Steve smiled, moving towards her. Even for someone like him, it was rather obvious what she was looking for here, and he simply wasn't the sort of man who could turn down such a well presented offer from the woman that he loved. He knelt down upon the wool blanket with her, his arms encircling her waist and pulling her to him. There wasn't much need for words now, and so he told her everything that he needed to with a kiss.

He dropped from his crouch flat to the ground as the shield whizzed over his head, twisting to snag it with a strand of webbing and yanking it back hard to launch Cap’s own weapon against him. "They attacked me first, Rogers!" He howled, armored spikes bristling in rage. "I was there to help and they ambushed me. SHOT US! I didn’t want to hurt anyone and they forced me. I knew them, you think I don’t care?!”

Amora was right, he really couldn’t trust any of them. They’d made up their minds about him long ago, only seeing the symbiote as evil. Too many years of fighting Brock and Gargan, they didn’t want to see he was trying to be something better. They’d attack him and blame him for defending himself, using anything as an excuse to put him back in the cell. They’d promise trust and betray him the first chance they got. Some heroes! He scooped up his gun, taking a few shots at the super soldier to try and bring him down. "Stay down, Rogers, and I might let you live!"

Steve had fought alongside Spider-Man enough times to know what was about to happen, throwing himself towards the ground in a roll and feeling the soft breeze as his shield spun right over his head. He pushed himself back to his feet and continued his charge. This fight wasn't going to get any easier without his shield, but he simply didn't have the time to retrieve it, "Look at what you can do, Flash! Are you telling me you couldn't have just escaped? You had a choice and you made it. Don't give me your excuses! I TRUSTED YOU!"

He kept running, ducking and weaving as Flash opened fire on him. Several shots whizzed past, several more managed to make contact, mostly grazes that sent burning pain through his body. One made hit solidly, going through his shoulder and spinning him. Rather than letting it knock him off his feet, he used the momentum to twist back around and slam his fist into the other man's face.

Steve's arm screamed at him, but he still managed to grapple with Eugene, ignoring the pain and pushing it down into a tight little ball in the back of his mind. "I thought you were a good man, Thompson. A hero. But heroes don't get to decide who lives and who dies."

Venom jumped backwards, enhanced agility barely keeping him ahead of the super soldier’s attack. The gunshot wound slowed him down as he favored his injured side, grunting as Cap’s fist connected with his armor. "So WHY then, Rogers?! For Fury? For Yourself? YOU ALL LIE!" He snarled, drooling fangs snapping dangerously close to the Avenger’s face, bringing his fist down hard against Steve’s jaw. "That’s for Gwen, you asshole!" The symbiote filled him with enough rage to ignore the pain, promising violence and assistance against this enemy, feeding on his hatred to grow in strength.

His arms distended into thick and writhing tentacles, slamming with force enough to rattle the buildings and leave broken cracks where they connected with the pavement. Some part of himself was horrified that he might actually kill Captain America, but the horror was rapidly dwindling into bloodsoaked and feral satisfaction. “You’re playing right into his hands, Steve! HE is the threat and he’s got you blind. I will not let you stop me until I carve him open!”

Arms reformed and Venom lept backwards, hand-springing back to land crouched low to the ground. The black glass of one eye had started to fill, opaque and white, but he directed his rage, controlling it instead of being consumed by it. He aimed his Beretta M9 and growled, low and dangerous. "Give me a reason."

"You bastard! You ask me why?! You know why! For all those men and women you killed! For the lives you took!" Steve took the punch, continuing to glare at Flash as he pushed back against him. He didn't care about Thompson's jealousies, they meant nothing in comparison to the slaughter he had committed. Eugene was, had been, a soldier, and now he was so lost in the monster that he didn't even care about the lives he took, lives he had sworn to defend, lives he had once made such a terrible sacrifice to do just that for.

He took a step back as the symbiote seemed the gain greater control, twisting the body of the man beneath into the alien horror that it truly was. It didn't care about others, all it cared about was rage and vengeance. Even if Flash found and killed the Jack O'Lantern, he wouldn't stop. He was simply too far gone. Like a rabid dog.

"You didn't need a reason before, son. You don't need one now." Regardless of the danger, Steve charged forward, spinning and launching his shield with all of his superhuman strength. It didn't matter if he was hurt, or even if he died. All that mattered was that he protect the lives of innocent men and women. He was a soldier, after all.

"I’ll explain later, an unofficial mission," He looked around the room. Cameras, SHIELD wouldn’t be happy, but they weren’t doing anything. Someone had to.

Steve followed after, though he eyed his friend dubiously. He wasn't entirely sure how he felt about this 'unofficial mission', but it was better if he stayed by Bucky's side and made sure he didn't do something foolish that might get them both in hot water with SHIELD, "If this is an unofficial mission, I think we'll be better able to avoid attention if I don't run around in a red, white, and blue costume."

Training Day (Gwen, MJ, & Steve)

Gwen had a game face. It was a tight jaw, lips pressed against one another, nostrils flared. That was how she knew she was ready for battle. Though she hadn’t gotten a chance to truly fight in the longest time. Really, last time she had been in the gym for a sparring match had been at seventeen, taking her last hand-to-hand defense lesson from her father. Ever since then, Gwen had used the gym for the elliptical, and if she was feeling particularly vengeful, a punching bag.

So this refresher course with Steve was necessary. How to throw a punch was hazy in her mind, not to mention a roundhouse kick. The only thing she did remember was how to pull a trigger on a gun without the recoil throwing her backwards.

Not that she relished his impersonal smile or the way he acted as if nothing happened between them. That hit much too close to home. But Gwen just tightened the elastic on her high ponytail and narrowed her eyes. This was not the time.

"Alright, Capiscle? Are you ready for me?" Gwen wrapped her fingers in a tight fist, tucking her thumb to the side rather than in front. At least something had stuck. Rearing back, elbow parallel with the ground, Gwen threw her hand forward into Steve’s waiting pad. Expelling the energy with a loud: "Hah!”

MJ smirked at the tension between her best friend and her best friend’s sort of boyfriend. “I’m more than ready for this lesson, Cap!” Even if Peter did kind of force her into the room. “I’m fantastic at kicking. Yes, I am very flexible.” She smirked again. “Take that as you will.” It wouldn’t feel like a successful session if she didn’t make the old man feel uncomfortable more than once.

Her gloved hand hit its target with a satisfying thud. She was no stranger to punching things. It was one of the reasons she was momentarily banned from SHIELD headquarters at certain times.

"What else you got for us?"

Both women struck his hands, muscular arms barely even showing any sign of the impact. Only the slightest give. Still, he nodded approvingly. The ladies knew how to throw a decent punch, at least. Gwen from the father, most likely, and MJ from her numerous kidnappings, he supposed. But there was always room for greater improvement, little flaws in the way they held themselves and how they threw their punches.

Pulling off the punching mitts, he did his best to ignore Mary Jane's comment, a slight blush finding its way to his cheeks before he composed himself. Then he walked around both of them, attempting to gently ease them into a proper fighting stance, making sure they were well-centered so they couldn't easily be knocked off balance. Then he showed them the proper motions for throwing a punch, how to focus it just right to do serious damage if it connected.

And then Steve moved to the other side of the ring, offering them both a small nod. He didn't want to go hard on them, every instinct in the shy, chivalrous, and lanky kid from Brooklyn inside him telling him it was wrong, but these ladies needed to know how to fight. Sometimes it was better to jump into the deep end, to sink or swim. "Alright. Now try and hit me."

Light 'em up [ Steve/Bucky ]

Three criminals at large in the past week. The Flash kid that most of the girls wanted to bang was out there, Loki and now a man named Jack. The Avengers had done little, from what Bucky could see. This had to change. People were dying.

Sliding three knives into his jacket pocket, he stepped out of his room, carrying a small handgun. At this time of the evening, it was highly likely that at least one of the criminals would be out. This mission was unorthodox, but it was necessary.

Making his way to the entrance, a familiar face caught his eye. Steve. He would be useful, and made good company on these types of missions. He’d just need convincing.

"Hey," Bucky smiled, walking into the room. "You wanna go out for an evening stroll of sorts?"

Steve sat quietly, unusually introspective and troubled tonight. There was a lunatic on the loose cutting people's heads open, Corporal Thompson had gone rogue and murdered SHIELD agents, and now Loki had escaped from his holding cell. So many threats and he simply couldn't face them all at once. There just weren't enough Avengers to handle something like this so suddenly. It really didn't seem like things could get much worse.

Thankfully, a familiar voice pulled him from his contemplation, and he glanced up to see his old friend. A small smile appeared, "Bucky."

Pushing himself up from his seat, he gave the man a firm nod, "Sure. I could use the fresh air. And hopefully it'll get my mind off our recent troubles. What did you have in mind?"

Flash dropped to the ground from a ledge a few stories above, wincing as the impact painfully jarred his wound. The symbiote was holding together his insides, but it ached fiercely. He knew the parasite in his blood would help him heal at an accelerated rate, much faster than his body would on his own, but it wasn’t fast enough. He certainly wasn’t like that asshole Deadpool, the wounds lingered and he didn’t have the time to spare to let them heal correctly. After the attack at S.H.I.E.L.D., they’d stepped up their surveillance to search for him, running him ragged from one side of the city to the other. Damn them, they should have listened to him! He had tried to warn them and had come away with more blood on his hands and crushing guilt at the dead men and women he knew from his brief time with the organization. All thanks to Shae Fucking Wiley who thought she was doing the right thing by stopping a monster. He should have seen it, sloppy to let his guard down so far and miss the trap. It was his own damn fault.

She still should have listened. Now he was forced to hunt alone.

He missed the almost silent whir of vibranium cutting through the air, catching only a blur of color before the shield slammed into his skull, snapping his head back and sending him tumbling hard to the pavement with a pained yelp. Agent Venom groaned softly, holding his side as he rolled to his knees and glared at the super soldier standing at the end of the alley. “Arrest me? Doing a terrorist’s dirty work for them now? I wouldn’t have guessed it of you, Cap. The things you learn about people, I’m actually disappointed. I thought you had more integrity than that, sir.” He staggered to his feet and offered Captain America a mocking salute. “Sorry, Rogers. I guess I’ll be resisting arrest today. Hope you brought some backup.” He tagged the walls of the alley with two strands of webbing and leaned back, pulling them taunt to launch himself, heavy combat boots first, at his enemy.

"I'm not doing this for Jack O'Lantern, you son of a bitch." The fierce edge in his voice startled even himself. He had laid himself down on the wire, had trusted Flash to do the right thing and help him to stop a madman. And what had his trust earned him? Several dead SHIELD agents. Good men and women whose only crime had been doing their job. Corporal Thompson was not the brave soldier he had once been, the symbiote had seen to that. He reminded himself of that several times, as if to convince himself.

The shield had bounced off of Flash, drifting on a lazy arc through the air and tumbling its way down into the alley. He took on a ready stance as Venom launched himself, the star spangled vibranium symbol of freedom landing back in his hands just in time to absorb the brunt of the attack. He slid back a few feet, but reacted immediately, launching himself at Flash as he recovered from his all-out assault.

Steve responded with an onslaught of fists, feet, and shield. There were no moves. It was all just one move, from start to finish. Smooth, quick, a ballet, deady and fast. And powerful. "Stand down while you still have some dignity left."

It Came From Outer Space (Steve vs. Flash)

The first thing Flash would see was a familiar red, white, and blue shield careening straight for his head.

After Corporal Thompson's murder spree during the shootout with Agent Wiley, it had become increasingly apparent that he couldn't be ignored. The man had lost control over the symbiote and he was now as much of a danger as Jack O'Lantern. While Steve was less than happy with the fact that Shae had ambushed Flash when he had come to her to try and help in their pursuit of Jack, his reaction had proven that perhaps Steve's trust had been misplaced.

He had been unable to sleep that night, uncertain of what would await him once SHIELD tracked the man down. What was left of the brave soldier inside of the monster? Was there anything left at all? He had learned that the creature fed on everything negative in a person, slowly but steadily turning them into an entirely different person, selfish and quick to anger at first, but eventually becoming fueled completely by rage. Everything about what Spider-Man had told him of his own experience with the symbiote made him shudder. It was pure evil and it needed to be destroyed once and for all.

Stepping into the alleyway, Steve stood in full star spangled regalia, "Corporal Thompson, by the authority of the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division, you are under arrest."
