I love how the trap door will be like 90% closed before the villain starts their monologue and it just... waits patiently
remember when we put a cobra in the trash can and then put the trash can outside and said “this is fine for now”
much like the rest of sck's cast, jake rogers is more of a paper-thin sketch than a fully-realized character, but ... i kind of love him? i think one of the best things the remake did was retcon the little hidden messages into part of his master plan. there's something compelling about a high schooler planning so carefully for his own death while also feeling so stupidly confident it won't happen ... and then violently dying due to his own overconfidence ... which itself justifies all the planning and paranoia that he thought would never have to justify. jake was, explicitly, textually, not as smart as he thought he was. but you still play the whole game feeling like he's leading you around by the nose, making fun of you for being two steps behind.

I love thinking about possible Nancy Drew games we'll never get, it's like we're Victorian orphans trying to outdo each other with "what food would you eat right now besides gruel"
I think I would have a game set at a living history museum...no, I should treat myself. A game set in Alaska!
Nancy camp counselor will forever live in my brain!!

Nancy Drew as the "how do you do, fellow kids" gif when she's undercover at Waverly
I think one of the worst/weirder parts of the newer Nancy Drew games are the NPC's. In MID they kind of made sense, because they're either in the crowd when Olivia is performing or they're at a protest. (Though in my opinion idk if the protesters are really needed; I feel like the older games would've told rather than shown.) But in KEY there's no reason for them to really be there. They never say anything unique or help in solving the case at all. It's just a really noticeable part of the newer games that I never see anyone talking about. I guess its not that big of a deal, but I feel like the animation/voice acting budget could probably go towards something else. And in general, was anyone ever complaining about the lack of NPC's in the original games? I guess solving problems that never existed is the main issue with HeR's new era though...

games in order: secret of the scarlet hand (2002)
Being a Ned Nickerson enjoyer in the Nancy Drew fandom truly be rough. Like yeah my boy is a little bit of a stale cracker, but you neglect his important role in the story as just "the guy".
where every other mystery story has a single woman character and she fulfills the role of "the girl".
Theres Ned. It's him, the gender role breaker, "The Guy". Leave my mans alone, i need Nancy and her friends competent, and any time i see Ned not present i must suffer with the women becoming less competent from the writers and I WILL NOT HAVE IT. LET MY MAN BE A LITTLE DAMSEL IN DISTRESS, JUST A LITTLE GUY. HE LOVES HIS COMPETENT MYSTERY SOLVING GIRLFRIEND.
