When a man loves a woman he waits. He waits for you to bask in your celebration with friends, family, and in this case, colleagues and fellow entertainers. He keeps his message sweet, to the point and with a hint of jovial banter. He tells you there’s ‘So much more for you’ because he knows it, believes it and is so very proud…of you, of your friendship. A bit of nostalgia mixed in with awe. He is a man thankful for having met you, worked with you, fought with you, and held on with you! He won’t admit it but boy is he proud. Like the roots of a tree, he once said, you two–your relationship–always growing…no one could ever untangle it. He is a stoic but stellar guy. And you remind yourself that he doesn’t need to be showy. Refuses to steal your spotlight. God knows you’ve stood in his shadow far too many Vancouver days and long cold nights. Time, maturity, appreciation has engulfed your lives. He is grateful. You are thankful.
This man who makes you proud, who astonishes you with his boyish agility and professorial ways, he is an enigma wrapped up in a kind but moody Leo of a man. He prefers sneakers and skinny jeans. No air of any kind except for being humorous and handsome. A definite catch. All eyes batting his way. But he loves you! So he keeps his congratulatory sentiments lighthearted and simple. He finds the one picture of you that hasn’t made the printed press, the one pic that perhaps is his fave because you are not posing. There’s no fake smile. He dislikes disingenuous smiles. It is just you. You look a bit hesitant. Wistful even. And you imagine it touches him somewhere deep inside.
Not exactly a go-to pic of the day you later tease him, but others be damed he loves it. It reminds him you are beautiful, fierce and talented but you are also human. And though you are grateful for these moments, you are oh so frightened that the flashing lights and screaming photogs will somehow swallow you whole. You’ve told him of this fear countless times. Each time he stood beside you. Kept you calm. Pushed away those nagging thoughts and kept you tough, focused and steadfast in these situations. Maybe he even feels the ghostly grip of your thumb on his hand and he’s suddenly transported to red carpets of awards shows’ past. You two against the world. Mulder and Scully. David and Gillian. Partners in crime. Cohorts in time. Lord what a mighty, lanky presence to behold. This dorky but gorgeous and infuriatingly sexy man loves you. And when a man like him loves you it’s not exactly science. It’s patience. It’s work. It’s complicated. Wonderfully and strangely so, and it’s yours ❤
