“I can ask my brother to let us borrow his kid. It’ll be good practice because my nephew also a boy. Do you think boy babies are very different to girl babies?” He wondered out loud as he hadn’t thought about that before. Did they develop differently? Or did one cry more than the other? “Do you want to get ready now or do you want to rest and we’ll go tomorrow after I come home from practice?”

“That would be a good idea,” Katie agreed with a smile. Neither of them had practice with any children and quite honestly, she thought she’d have more time to mull the idea over in her head before they had any. She didn’t have that choice now. Katie laughed at Oliver’s question, “I don’t think so. A baby is a baby.” At his next question, she considered how she was feeling before answering, “I suppose we could go now. I feel alright. Who knows what it will be like tomorrow.”

After the events of the Ministry, the thought of Oliver and Katie being pregnant had been briefly wiped from her thoughts, but it quickly returned when she got back into the swing of ‘normal’ life again. She knew that she had to talk to Katie about it. How exciting that her best friend was pregnant!

“A boy! Oh wow!” she exclaimed. “That’s so exciting, I’m so happy for you!” Angelina beamed at her friend. “So, how are you feeling? Are you happy? I’m going to be godmother right, but I want a cool name- I don’t want to be just godmother, I want to be supreme godmother.”

Things in the world were absolutely mental. That was why when they’d had the talk about children, they had decided to wait. However, it turned out that time had a mind of its own. She was happy. She was nervous, for sure, but still happy about having a child with her best friend. The symptoms that she’d initially had were wearing off, so she was beginning to feel like herself again.

“We just found out the other day. Oliver is beside himself,” she murmured with a laugh. “I’m feeling better. No more morning sickness, thank god. I’m happy! Nervous, though. Very nervous.” She laughed at Angelina and nodded, “Of course you’re going to be the supreme godmother.”

Romilda hadn’t been sure what to bring to Katies for dinner. Wine was what she usually brought, but she didn’t think it was a good idea to bring a pregnant lady wine. Felt a bit opposite. Even if Romilda would have had it alone. So she settled on a small assortment of cakes for dessert. 

“Katie!” she squealed excitedly as Katie opened the door, and jumped into the hug. “I’m good! I brought cake.” she grinned, holding up the box. “Can you have cake?” should Romilda have checked that? What did pregnant people eat anyway?

Katie hugged Romilda tightly, a smile on her face. It had been a while since they’d seen each other and she blamed it mostly on her busy schedule with quidditch and then the symptoms that she’d had from the early days of her pregnancy. “Cake!” Katie exclaimed happily, before taking the box from Romilda. “Thank you. Of course I can have cake. Just no alcohol or sushi,” she answered with a small laugh. “I can’t have wine, but do you want a glass? I have some in the cabinet that I could use getting rid of.”

Michael looked up, a look of utter relief being shot Katie’s way. “Fucking Merlin, yes.” He didn’t talk with the other quidditch player often but even a semi-familar face was a goddamn relief. One that got it, not a member of Witch Weekly or whatever teen pop bullshit wanted to ask him questions about if he was married or not yet. “They grow fast. Like, two and a half centimeters a month.” Michael stopped himself, looking down at the onsie in his hands. Had those books actually taught him something? Without Tony’s notecards? “You need books. I think I fucking bought them all.” Well, stolen then from Terry. Same thing. “You know like everything is bad for them? They can’t even have honey. Weirdest shit in the whole world.”

Michael threw down the onsie, staring at the table in wild confusion for a moment before smiling up at Katie. “Congrats, yeah? Wood’s shouted it at the whole league. It’s a lot of learning but it’s weird and great. Like, I dunno. Unbelievable and shit.” And when Michael finished talking, going on about baby crap this and baby crap that, he came to a stark realization. His hands curled against the clothing displays edge. Back locking up for a moment before he breathed out and grinned once more. He hadn’t seen Katie since they were taken, scared out of their fucking minds and it had been something he’d gotten good at forgetting about. Worry about the Redeemers easily transferred to baby worry or worry about his dad’s health but Katie was sharp reminder of it all. The pain in his back, he knew was caused by his ignoring of his physical therapy appointments, shot up from his shoulder blades to his neck. Psychosomatic or so shit, wasn’t it?

Michael wasn’t someone that Katie talked to all of the time, but he was a face that she found comfort in. The last time that they’d talked was after the kidnapping, but they had more than that in common. There was quidditch and now they were both expecting children. Her eyes widened at the information he was giving her. Damn, she needed to do more research. “It sounds like I’m going to be going to a book store next,” she teased. “Wait, really?” Babies were so weird. She felt like she didn’t know anything.

“Thank you. Congratulations to you, too. It’s crazy, isn’t it?” She felt like they’d just been at Hogwarts and now they were expanding their families. Expecting children. “We’ll have to schedule a play date,” Katie murmured with a small laugh. She looked down at the table with the onesies, before looking back to Michael in concern. “You okay?” She asked lowly.

“Oh Godric. I forgot about diapers.” His eyes widened in fear, realising they would have to be changing diapers in the future as well. That was certainly something he wasn’t looking forward to. When it was his nephew he had always been able to hand him off to his brother or his sister in law. He wouldn’t be able to do that with his own baby. “Do you want to come shopping with me? You have better taste than me.”

Katie laughed out loud at Oliver’s realization and the fear in his eyes. She hadn’t changed a diaper either, but she knew that they’d get the hang of it. “Maybe we can ask to babysit your nephew for some practice,” Katie suggested with a smile. It seemed that they would need a bit of practice. She was feeling better since her pregnancy had progressed and Katie nodded when Oliver asked if she wanted to go shopping. “I’d love to.”

It felt like forever since Katie had seen Romilda. So much managed to change in so little time. She was no longer playing quiddtich, but that was because her healer had told her not to. It wasn’t directly her choice. It was what was safest for the baby. Speaking of the baby, she was pregnant. That was why Katie had invited Romilda over for some dinner (aka takeout) while Oliver was at practice. She learned that she became bored with no quidditch or training to occupy her. She had to find other things to occupy her time. 

“Long time no see,” Katie greeted her friend with a smile and a hug. “How are you?”

When it came to babies, Katie felt completely out of her element. She had absolutely no idea what she was getting herself into. They’d had the conversation about becoming parents and they were in agreement, but Katie hadn’t thought it would happen so quickly. The healer had requested that she stop playing and training for Quidditch and Katie was growing more restless as the morning sickness began to go away. After rearranging their apartment for the third time that morning, Katie decided to go shopping. Oliver had bought a lot, but he’d mostly stuck to quiddtich supplies for their kid who wouldn’t likely be able to start training for at least a couple of years. They needed other things too. 

Katie was walking around the store aimlessly, when she ran into Michael with a similar expression on his face. One of confusion and question. “You lost, too?” Katie asked with a small laugh. “Why are there so many options for diapers? For bottles? Does a baby really need all of this?”

When she said he was going to be a better dad he was quick to shake his head. “Impossible.” Katie would be the best mom in the world. He didn’t know how he knew that, but there was not a single doubt in his mind. She was the perfect friend, the perfect wife, why shouldn’t she be the perfect mother as well? “What do you think we should get Charlie and Harriet? They’re gonna have the twins soon.”

Katie, quite honestly, didn’t know anything about children. She never had any siblings to take care of and she hadn’t been around kids a lot. She didn’t really know how she was going to do this, but she did know that she’d have Oliver there every step of the way. He was so supportive. Thinking for a brief moment, she replied, “I know they’ll probably need plenty of diapers. Especially with two babies. Maybe a cute outfit for both of them?”

Looking at her, he wondered how he had gotten so lucky. It was something that often came into his mind. He couldn’t imagine spending the rest of his life without Katie by his side. She was his rock and he wanted to be hers as well. They didn’t know anything about babies, but they’d learn. Together. “We’ll just buy a lot of different sized clothes then.” In his mind it was a good plan. “You’re gonna be the best mom.”

Katie was so thankful that she’d taken the chance to ruin their friendship and turn it into something more. If she hadn’t, she wondered where they’d be now. She loved Oliver more than she knew what to do with and she hoped that he knew that. She was so thankful for the fact that they were now starting a family together. “That sounds like a good idea,” Katie laughed softly. She pressed a kiss to Oliver’s lips when he spoke again. “You’re going to be an even better dad.”

Katie was finally at the point in her pregnancy when she was feeling good enough to finally get out of the house. At some point she had to because she was beginning to go stir crazy. The doctor had told her that she couldn’t play quidditch and she followed the orders. However, she was beginning to get bored. She’d already organized the apartment the best that she could. She cleaned. She put away a lot of the stuff that Oliver had bought. What else was she supposed to do? Today, she decided to make a trip to Flourish and Blotts to see if she was able to find a couple of books. Maybe she’d get into reading. 

Flipping through a book, Katie decided that she’d buy it. She was searching another shelf when she ran into Percy. “Hi, Percy!” Katie exclaimed happily when she saw him. “Are you all right?” She asked. “I suppose that Oliver has told you the news already? He’s told everyone.”

He grinned at her when she said that the onesies he had bought were small. They were absolutely tiny. It was hard for him to wrap his head around that their baby would be that size. It seemed surreal. “Right! That’s what I said! Apparently babies are that size when they’re fresh.” He grimaced.. that wasn’t the right word for it. He thought her eyes were welling up because of his mistake. “Newborn.. I mean.” A boy. They were having a boy. A future Quidditch captain. Not that their baby wouldn’t have been captain if it was a girl as well.  Oliver was crying happy tears as well now. “It does.” Oliver kissed her. “I love you, Kates.”

Katie didn’t have that much experience around children, if she were being honest. She had no idea what to do with a baby, that was for sure. This was all so new to her. The fact that they’d eventually have a baby that was that small blew her mind. It made her a little bit more scared, but she was beginning to become more scared than excited. She was ready to have a life with Oliver. “I think they grow fast, though. At least that’s what I’ve heard,” Katie murmured. She knew that they’d be a couple years old the moment that they blinked. She wrapped her arms around Oliver and replied, “I love you.”

Starting a family with Katie was the best thing that happened to him all year. He didn’t know why he was so excited, sure he had thought about having children in the future and after they got married he thought about them having kids, but it being real made it all so much better. In a few months they would have a baby of their own. “I got kits for both home and away games. Wanted to be prepared for either situation.” He grinned, taking those out of the bag as well and showing it to Katie. He was quite proud of that idea, but he looked at her warily afraid she’d burst out in tears at every moment. “We’re finding out the gender today?” He had been waiting for it, entirely too curious for his own good, presents he had brought forgotten as he stared at the letter in amazement. “Are you ready?” He looked at her for a moment, waiting for confirmation before opening the letter. His eyes tearing up from excitement, placing a kiss on top of her head. “We’re having a boy.”

Their relationship was a bit of a whirlwind, but honestly, Katie wouldn’t have it any other way. She loved Oliver more than anything. The prospect of kids had seemed so far in the future, but she was slowly getting attuned to the fact that it was happening now. She was beginning to get excited about the thought of being parents with Oliver. She knew that he’d be a great father. “I love them. They’re so tiny!” Katie laughed softly, blinking away the tears that had formed in her eyes. She nodded, handing him the envelope with the letter inside. She didn’t particularly have a preference, she’d be happy with either. She nodded again when he asked if she was ready and watched as he opened the letter. “A boy!” She repeated happily, tears again in her own eyes. “It feels so real now.”

Katie barely had time to process the fact that she was pregnant before Oliver went around and told all of their friends. She knew that he was excited, so she couldn’t hold it against him. Still, after the Holidays and everything, she wanted to see Angelina. To talk to her herself. To see what was going on in her life. That was why Katie had invited her friend over to their apartment while Oliver was out with Charlie having a drink. 

“I suppose Oliver told you the news already…” Katie trailed off with a small smile. He wasn’t good at keeping secrets. “We’re having a boy!”

Oliver did his best to attend all Healer appointments with her, but the last one he hadn’t been able to take time off for, which he felt bad for. He told Katie they were in this together and he meant it. “We’re only having one baby now. We are going to have more.” He waved off her teasing with a smile. He was certain about it. Back when she had been missing he’d had a dream about them with a couple of kids running around their feet. “Let’s start with the best things first. I got a mini version of both of our jersey’s!” Oliver had put it on top of everything as he was most excited about it. “We’re going have the coolest baby.”

Katie loved seeing how excited Oliver was to be a father. She was still anxious about the idea, but she was warming up to it as more time passed. He was right, so she didn’t argue. They would more than likely have more kids, if they could. Oliver presented the jerseys that he’d bought and Katie hugged one of them to her chest. “Oliver, I love them!” She exclaimed, trying her best not to tear up. She cried at almost everything now. It was a lot. Flicking her wand, Katie accio’d the envelope that she’d gotten from the healer and handed it to Oliver. “The appointment today was to find out the gender. I didn’t want to know, so I asked them to place it in an envelope so we could read it together.”

Christmas presents.

Seeing  the cute baby things in Diagon Alley, Oliver couldn’t help himself and pick up all of them. They didn’t know if they were having a girl or a boy yet, so he got things for both genders. Oliver knew they were going to have more kids in the future so they could just keep the stuff for the next baby. The thought of that filled him with excitement rather than fear as something like this would’ve last year. He was ready to start a family with Katie. Oliver went to the bookshop and got all the baby books they had as well, ready to study them like a Quidditch playbook. Apparating home he quickly set down the several bags, all of them spilling over with the amount of things he had gotten. “Kates I know I told you I was just gonna get a few things but I couldn’t say no. Sit down on the couch, I’ll show you some of the best things I got. You’ll love them. If not I can return things. Or we can give them to Charlie. He’s having twins.”

Time seemed to be flying ever since Katie found out that she was pregnant. She’d already been to the healer and found out the gender. Oliver had been at practice and hadn’t been able to go, so she asked the healer to put the information in an envelope so that they could find out together. She was sitting on the couch when Oliver came home with a haul for the baby. Seeing him so excited, made her only love him more. “We’re only having one baby, Oliver!” She teased him, seeing how much he’d bought. “Alright. Show me,” she murmured, the excitement clear on her face.

Angelina smiled as Katie hugged her, she was glad that she received such a reaction, it had been a while since they’d seen each other, but in fairness to the both of them, they were busy. “Perfect, I need to eat, so I think the Leaky Cauldron is calling our name- if you’re up for it?” she raised an eyebrow at the other. “Oh, I’ve been good, just been throwing myself into practice and games. You know how it is. Haven’t really had much time for anything else- which is probably why we haven’t caught up in a bit, but honestly there’s nothing to tell you, because my life is pretty boring right now.”

They were both busy and that was why they hadn’t seen each other in a while. Life had become crazy ever since they graduated. Both were busy with their own lives and quidditch schedules. She never held it against anyone. “I’d love to go to the Leaky Cauldron,” Katie agreed with a happy nod. She hoped that her stomach would behave. However, she kept that thought to herself. “I do know how it is. I’ve been doing the same. Although, I think I’m finally getting over a stomach bug.”
