literally the thing that will never fail to crack me up is that in the maze runner book they make a point of saying that the characters are super intelligent kids selected for their superior intellect because of how CLEVER they are to be in this experiment, and yet said characters spend three whole books missing shit that’s right in front of them and having a gay old time in the desert

ACOTAR Headcannon

When Rhysand was under the mountain he would always mind-speak with the children and calm them down and pretend to be their imaginary friend so they wouldn’t feel so alone. He would play little games with them and Rhys would scratch his nose and then talk in their minds with a silly voice “Hey look! That big doof up there is picking his nose!” And the children would laugh because the feared High Lord of the Night Court was picking his nose and the children would say something back like “Oh wow he’s a doof! Those shadows can’t help him hide that he’s picking his boogers!!” And Rhys would feel happy because the children were less scared now and at least they saw him as a doof and not a monster

So I’m rereading the ACOTAR books before ACOFAS comes out and I just came across this part again. I’ve always admired the foreshadowing to the Illyrians but this was the first time I thought about the faerie actually losing his wings. Obviously it was Amarantha who clipped his wings and it was probably done publicly. Can you imagine Rhys standing there while this faerie’s wings were being clipped? Can you imagine how it must have took all of Rhys’ willpower to not help him because he knows how precious wings are and that most would rather die than lose them? Amarantha didn’t even know about Rhys’ wings and yet he had to endure another one of her cruel punishments. Can you imagine Rhys crying himself to sleep that night thinking about his mother’s and sistes clipped wings and how he couldn’t save them either? We always talk about how not being able to help Feyre Under the Mountain and at the Spring Court must have torn Rhys apart, but what about not being able to help the people who remind him of home? The people who remind him of what he’s already lost.
