What is HIV?

Here’s the important points i’ve learned from our HIV Counseling seminar before: WHAT IS HIV? H- Human. This means that HIV only affects humans. Can be passed from person to person I- immunodeficiency. This means that it targets our immune system, weakens it and so our immune system (defenders of our body) will not be able to fight infections anymore. Therefore we’ll be vulberable to opportunistic infections such as TB. V- Virus. 4 Body fluids that carries the virus. 1. Seminal fluid 2. Vaginal fluid 3. Blood 4. Breastmilk ❗️if these body fluids will come in contact with an open wound, you CAN be infected. It also depends on the viral load of the person carrying the virus. The higher the viral load the higher chance being infected. Ways of transmitting HIV: 1. Sexual intercourse with a + person without protection. 2. Blood transfusion. 3. Sharing of infected needles. 4. Mother to child transmission during birth. Ways of preventing HIV transmission: (ABCDE) A- abstinence B- be faithful/monogamous C-correct use of protection (condom) D- do not do drugs, do not share needles E-educate❗️spread awareness. You will not get HIV by CASUAL CONTACT such as: Kissing Hugging Sharing of utensils If you think that you’ve done some of the things mentioned, the best way to do is have yourself TESTED! It’s the only way to know. Check your status and STOP the STIGMA! 🚫😊
