Just a reminder that during the one year Magik’s whole story happened, I really hope she has a role in season 2
So… uhm…
Yeah…
One thing I’ve always found weird is how whenever a ship is widely popularized it is immediately put into stereotypes and tropes (obviously) but also for some reason there is ALWAYS a top and bottom given even if their relationship was more ambiguous about something like that before. I just think it’s weird how every relationship has to have some sort of power dynamic… I mean yeah it’s because of porn addictions but still…
Calling it now… Gambit and Rogue will get married at the end of 97 after a big act of love from Rogue to help his brainwashing and he gonna be grey or something at the wedding
I love them
Guys I just realized that the Opla confirming that Sanji was reminded of his mother’s death when Nami was sick gives basically confirmation to one of my favorite sanami parallels. Sanji and Nami both have moments where the other reminds them of the death of their mother
I stand by the idea that season 2 of Clone High would have been so much better if instead of Joan and JFK getting together basically immediately shift the love triangle dynamic to her instead and make that a main plot point. Of course it would have to be very different from Cleo’s love triangle, I think instead of her basically being open about her feelings to both like Cleo was instead have it so she denies both of them and they have to prove themselves to her. Because JFK had the quickest character shift in the world and real Joan would not have just trusted him so quick because he was nice one night. I know it’s just “last season but slightly different” but to me that’s very high school drama and on point. Have Abe’s main conflict be his lingering feelings to Cleo (while she also of course has her own romance plot going) and JFK’s being Joan’s reluctance to trust him because of the kind of guy he is. Make them both improve themselves for her. This might be a hot take and horrible writing but yeah I just think it’s very old high school drama and honestly better than what we got.
Shinpei is one of my favorite yanderes in all of media just because he so elegantly captures one of the two main yandere tropes. When you have a yandere character typically you are able to separate them into two categories, it’s a very simple distinction but makes a huge difference, that being, fighting for their loves complete happiness or fighting for their own complete happiness. Saying that, the first category is still very selfish as well, wanting them to be together and happy for eternity. The second covers the whole “if I can’t have you, no one can” shenanigans, putting their loves feelings about the situation aside in favor of their own desire to be with their love. Most visual novels are probably first that slowly changes to second once their feelings are not fully or competently shown. Shinpei of course falls into the first category (second leaning at the start but that is his arc after all). He is the perfect example of I will do anything for your happiness and because she wishes to marry him that works out very well for him. His stubborn willingness to make Sakoto happy is able to take advantage of his psychotic nature in a satisfying way that puts them on equal footing. I’ve always been more of a fan of the “I wish to serve you” yandere rather than the “I wish to control you” yandere because I’m here for interesting psychologically insane characters not here to watch one character (usually a woman) just get tortured the entire time, not my cup of tea. Shinpei is forced to humble himself for, be it his own but then inherently Sakoto’s happiness. Shinpei wants to get what Shinpei wants and what Shinpei wants is for Sakoto to be happy. This sets up an interesting dynamic between the two where despite Shinpei’s insanity and skills he still listens to her and does what she asks because above all else Shinpei wants what Sakoto wants.
SPOILERS FOR FIONNA AND CAKE S2 FINALE
I LOVE FIONNA CAMPBELL
EPISODE 8. I’m sick of all this Fionna hate, she’s going through a midlife crisis leave her alone. Fionna from the start of season 2 has just wanted to help her friends, that’s all she wanted. Though the thing that constantly breaks her is nothing she does works and it continues to send her into a deeper and deeper hole that she insists she can get out of if she does just one more thing. Anytime she thinks something is going well or something will work it all comes crashing down (sometimes literally). Episode 8 Fionna feels completely crushed, she messed up at the trial, she couldn’t save the fundraiser, and then she comes back and it is going well. The moment that Fionna leaves that dimension, things start to go well. I believe this is why Fionna kissed flame, she is clinging onto whatever she has left. I don’t even think it’s about wanting Flame anymore but just wanting to be wanted, we saw this also with Hunter when she tries to kiss him. I’m also very curious about how Hunter will react because he might still think Fionna is frustrated at him for getting mad at her. I think Hunters big arc in the end will be him speaking out for himself and saying what he wants, how he feels. I can’t imagine him being more mad at Fionna than Flame but I still think he will be pissed. I also have come to the conclusion that I believe the dream from episode 6 was Hunters so I’m curious if that will be brought up soon.
I adore platonic love
Very first thing I see people talking about with the new Fionna And Cake episode is was this romantic? What was going on here? I think it’s very easy to interpret this as romantic love but I think if you look a little deeper it’s a very beautiful platonic love. The episode was about loving yourself, they were very on the nose on their metaphor with this one but it’s fine we love it. Fionna has had many insecurity issues throughout the whole season, no stranger to that, and this episode really made her confront them face-to-face. And AGAIN the whole blasting off scene was very on the nose with her letting go of Flame and seeing the beauty in herself, it’s really great. I just see the love between Fionna and Fennel as so pure and beautiful. I do think it’s a little weird how people are trying to justify shipping them like their characters are from two people who see each other as brothers. It is different in this reality but the dynamic is still there… even if Fennel isn’t like an extension of Fionna (or Fionna an extension of Fennel…). As someone who has a good amount of sisters I really resonated with this episode, especially the whole “you’re beautiful” part because that giggling after is such a sister thing. Now Hunter and Huntress, they were also amazing. I really hope we get to see more of them and I really like how much Huntress was starting to see the similarities between them. I also think Huntress is starting to see the value in Hunter’s ‘softness’ and how that is actually an advantage. Anyways… Fionna and Hunter better make-out sloppy style next episode because I genuinely love them so much.
Sanami is so frustrating to me because my brain doesn’t want to ship them, I don’t like the pervert trope, I don’t like one-sided ships but there are so many little things about them that just give the analyzer part of my brain that special itch. If you just watch the show without thinking about them much then yeah I wouldn’t expect you to ship them but once you start looking into it they go so deep. The parallels between their backstories, the parallels between each others parents (Freud no), the parallels between both of them leaving the crew, their special care for each other that is just so sweetly emphasized in the smallest ways, the significance in 373, the significance in their colors, the bridal carry, the marriage and wedding parallels, OH MY GOSH SO MANY PARALLELS. Sanami was the foundation of my tumblr account and I don’t think I could ever truly let them out of my heart
Whose dream is this? I’ve been thinking about this all day and I’m so confused. Who is dreaming about Fionna just stacking up the men? Why are there sardines? If it was Flame or Hunter wouldn’t she have chosen one of them in the end rather than just standing there happily because dream Fionna doesn’t actually do anything. I feel like the whole point is that Fionna thinks it’s Flame’s but it’s someone else’s but who’s? Could it be Hunter showing how he feels like he has to fight for Fionna’s attention while she’s still also hung up on Flame? Narratively I feel like if it was Hunter’s they would’ve had it so Fionna chooses Flame while he’s being kinda jerky so dream traveling Fionna thinks it’s Flame’s while it’s Hunters, expressing his sadness about Fionna still being all about Flame even if he treats her poorly. If it was Flame’s then why would Hunter be there? We don’t even know if Flame knows about Fionna and Hunter and we definitely haven’t seen any signs of him seeing him as competition. Also showing constant signs of Fionna liking Hunter but her never personally acknowledging it and instead chasing Flame is KILLING ME, I NEED ANOTHER EPISODE
I’m really sad Akane never got the Ryugenzawa treatment
Ryugenzawa is a huge arc for Ranma because it’s where he has to be there for Akane unconditionally, because that’s what love is, even if she does not love him back. Obviously she does and it’s a misunderstanding but still it’s huge for Ranma. Being there for her, being able to express his feelings as well as act on them, and holding back on fighting even if that’s his immediate instinct when he doesn’t get his way, these are Ranma’s main flaws and EVERY SINGLE ONE of them is explored in Ryugenzawa. This is also an Akane centered arc, it’s supposed to be her story, the first chapter is literally called ‘Akane’s Journey’. I just feel like we never see an arc for Akane on even remotely the same level as Ranma with Ryugenzawa. Rumiko Takahashi is well known to… not be great when it comes to developing her characters but it’s still sad when I see something so great for Ranma, that Akane never gets. I think that if Akane had such an arc it should have been focused on her trust in Ranma. I also might be wrong and maybe I’m forgetting some important arc. Also little pet peeve with this arc, despite it being my favorite, whyyyyy in the end do they still manage to switch the narrative to Ranma saving Akane, like in the last moment. She runs up and saves him and then she starts falling and he goes and catches her, it’s a small little thing but still annoying to me. Love you though Ryugenzawa
I think a funny little extra jab at Ranma is Ryoga’s quick friendship with Akane
At the start of the series Akane has a pretty big disdain for men, this very quickly fades away but it’s still important to her character as she hates losing to men. To Ranma this is also the main reason that they are not friends because at the start, Ranma actually really wanted to be friends with Akane. And to him her getting angry at him was just because she found out he was a boy. In actuality it’s bigger than that, it’s really a combination of her losing to a man, him seeing her naked, and Ranma’s stubborn attitude on the situation not helping one bit.
Again, Ranma ACTUALLY wanted to be friends with her now imagine that and here comes this old rival of yours who likes your crush and is an actual pervert (but exposing him would mean revealing the biggest secret of someone who you consider a friend) but he quickly becomes friends with her. Is the real Ryoga the bad Ranma that Akane sees him as (mainly at the start of the series) hmmm… new essay is due
Four similar characters if you look at just their base but 3 of them are dynamic and have actual struggles that they have to work through with their friends because of their off-putting personality, as well as many other struggles, and the other can’t decide which direction of “different” she is supposed to go so ends up just being a bland mess by the end (also four different colors of hairs with similar lengths hehe)
I plan to do a more in depth writing on this but one of the most fascinating parts or Ranma 1/2 for me is Ranma and Akane’s views of the main two rivals, that being Ryoga and Shampoo. When Ranma and Akane talk about what they would like in a partner it’s very similar to how Ryoga and Shampoo actually are. Akane insists she wants some strong man who will protect her, sweep her off her feat, and most importantly, is openly filled with love for her. Ryoga is always there to protect Akane, will do almost anything for her, and is of course, bursting with love for her (whether she sees it or not). I also almost think that Shinnosuke fits this even better but we’re talking about Ryoga. Now on Ranma’s side of things he says he wants someone feminine, attractive, and most importantly is openly filled with love for him. This perfectly fits Shampoo. Now to flip it over let’s look at how the Shampoo and Ryoga see Akane and Ranma. Ryoga sees Akane as an a very feminine and comforting figure, someone who is kind and gentle to him. This is the way that ideally, Akane wants to be viewed. Shampoo is much harder to understand because she never really talks about what she likes about Ranma (prolly because she doesn’t actually like him but it’s not the time nor place for that) but we know she wants to marry him because he beat her in a fight so just his strength, masculinity, all that. Again, this is the way Ranma wants to be viewed as, he sees himself as very strong, takes pride in that and Shampoo is very willing to butter him up about it. So why, if Ryoga and Shampoo are these ideal partners and they view Ranma and Akane as their ideal selves, do Ranma and Akane not love them? It’s because Ranma and Akane are stupid teenagers who don’t actually know what they want. These “ideal partners” constantly test them but they just prove again and again the love they have for each other. A love and understanding that goes beyond their stubbornness to admit their feelings. Despite being everything they want, Shampoo and Ryoga are also horrible people. I’ve said it multiple times before but everyone in the Ranma 1/2 verse sucks besides a handful of people. Two of these people of course being Ranma and Akane. Ranma and Akane’s love for each other is unconditional, we can see this tested in Ryugenzawa. Ryoga and Shampoo’s love is manipulative and selfish. Ranma and Akane are the only people who actually understand each other and see the other for who they truly are and that’s why they are endgame.
This being Courtney’s face when she realizes she likes Scott is everything to me
