i watched batman returns over christmas because it's a christmas movie that i haven't seen in a while, and i think, despite bruce not having a whole lot of screen time, he might be my favorite version. genuinely wanted oswald to find his parents, fell in love at first sight with selina and spent the entire time looking at her like she put the stars in the sky herself, and when he realized that she was catwoman he spent the rest of the movie trying to save her from herself. he was also trying to stop schrek, not as batman, but as bruce wayne, using his connections and money to stop a power plant that would've hurt gotham, and at the end of the movie he picks up a black cat in the snow where he thinks he saw selina. there's also this one bit when alfred gives him what he thinks is soup and has the most human reaction to finding it cold that a man can have while trying to stop crime in a cave he made specifically for it and it warms my heart every time
