Miss Jean Louis-In the beginning...

For years now, the GISHWHES community has been hearing about Misha’s babysitter: Miss Jean Louis. Nothing is every said about her, other than how she’ll be upset that Misha has gone rampant. I have recently recovered where Miss JL began her “baby sitting” duties.

Just out of college, Miss JL, then known at “Jean”, had no job she could take. So, being located in Vancouver, she took an intern position at CW Studios. She was assigned to a Robert Singer. Singer was just about to start his second season of a show called “Supernatural”. Jean went about getting coffee, delivering scripts, and other random needs on set.

During the course of the years, Jean moved up to being an assistant. A paid position. But then, season four started. Jean went and delivered a script to a newer actor: Misha Collins. She knew nothing of what would transpire. She knocked on the trailer and a man with crazy hair opened it. Jean delivered the script with some general niceities and then went on her way.

Every day he was filming Jean delivered Misha his script. But his character was then extended in the show. He was there more, longer. This led to shenanigans. J2 were already bad enough, now there was a third. Jean seemed to be the only one to keep Misha under control. Therefore, she became: Miss Jean Louis, aka Misha’s babysitter.

My friend Heather Powers is one of the strongest people I know.

I met Heather in college, and for the first year, I barely knew her. I was shy and rarely talked to people even though I was a theatre major. My second year, I started talking to Heather more. But, during our first show, Heather had to leave because her uncle has passed away. Now, Heather was the fight captain for Hamlet. She came back before opening night and did her job, even though she should have continued to mourn. But, she had made a commitment.

During the next two years, I grew to learn more about Heather and her family. Both her parents have Asperger’s. She had been a nationally ranked gymnast at 14, only to have her dreams dashed with a wrist injury. Heather had a rough high school career but managed to come out ahead. She double majored and double minored in college. She was told to graduate or switch schools she had so many credits.

The year after I graduated, I was a mess. I couldn’t rip myself away from a relationship I should have and was spiraling into a depression. Heather was there for me. She had been there before and I needed her more than I thought. We grew very close.

Last year, Heather lost her aunt. Her cousin had now lost both her parents in five years. Heather, though full of grief, was there for her cousin. She put her cousin first. That is what she is. Heather is my best friend and always puts others before herself.

She teaches English at a middle school right now with students that don’t speak English. She perseveres and does everything in her power to get her kids interested in reading. This summer, Heather is volunteering her time to run a book club for her more advanced students to keep them engaged. She spent her first days off this summer volunteering at the #iamalive table at the Phoenix Supernatural Con.

I love Heather. And she has made the world of difference to me.

I firmly believe that big cats, such as tigers and lions, should not be in zoos and circuses. They are wild animals that should have the freedom of being able to live as they would had they not been trapped or bred to be in captivity.
