After the My Friend Malamar campaign Pokémon had to announce Malamar’s mega evolution… I am 110% convinced Malamar would make a perfect partner Pokémon for Idia. It literally functions similarly to the Lethe system… and I feel like the dynamic between Idia and Malamar would be so entertaining…

Idia would keep getting competitive with his own Malamar… then get hypnotized… then get out of it… and the cycle repeats

He’s twisted off of the undersea gal from Nightmare Before Christmas!

He’s an Anglerfish Gillman — a type of merperson who has physical adaptions to withstand the dark and high-pressure environment of the deep sea. They drastically differ from merpeople of lower pressure environments, and are unable to survive in any environment other than their own without an enchanted sigil that is tattooed onto their body. Yet due to the scarcity of mages in the Deep Sea who can preform this ritual, a lottery is hosted every few years that select a very small amount of gillmen. The winners of the lottery are permitted to receive the tattoo and leave.

Fish was among one of these winners… a stroke of bad luck in his eyes, as he never signed up for the lottery. But this was an opportunity given to him by his mother in hopes that he’d flourish and reach greater heights. So despite his reservations, Fish does his very best to make the most of it… even if every other day he’s wishing to go home and be with his mama in her final few years.

Although contrary to his yearning, with every new opportunity Fish refuses to go home. He hasn’t achieved anything great yet, so he holds himself from returning. He doesn’t want to disappoint his mother by coming home with nothing to show for her sacrifice and work. And as a result, Fish has buried himself in the misery, homesickness, and stress of being alone in a place with nobody to truly connect with and understand his unique circumstance. It’s these negative feelings that leave Fish sleepless and unpleasant, further strengthening the divide between himself and his peers.

Ya know what I’m confused about. I love this series, but that one plotline where they introduce a whole-ass cool new rival to Astral - (who just vanishes from the series later on???) - was so weird. What even was that. And why can I never find that episode.
