Thinking abt PhiteRado/ParaGraph and how their relationship failed mostly due to their environment completely and utterly failing them first.
Graphite’s toxic traits are him not really understanding love and affection, and therefore, he doesn’t understand that his partner/friend needs comfort.
He cares about Parado greatly. This much is obviously true, shown by his constant worry for Parado nearing the end. But he doesn’t understand how to show it properly and just gives Parado “support” much too roughly, trying to get Parado’s mind back in the game.
But he is only like this due to their messy circumstances.
Graphite, at his core, is a warrior. A knight. His role in his own game is as an antagonist. His goal is to defeat and kill the players so he could survive. He’s a fighter.
His natural instincts within his code is to fight to survive. He fought Snipe and killed Saki to be here.
Due to the misguidance from Kuroto, Graph keeps fighting. He fights and he fights and he thinks of humanity as a whole as his enemy. He thinks of himself as an enemy of humans.
But he doesn’t have to fight. Bugsters can live in harmony with humans.
This is shown with Poppy, who, while she did take Sakurako’s life to live as herself, she didn’t do it on purpose. She was then taken into CR and she lived as one of the humans for a long time.
She was taught proper morals and humanity’s basic values (or, at least, the basic values of CR and the hospital).
She knows humans and bugsters are not inherently enemies, and she learns this even more by the time she is reprogrammed to snap out of the brainwashing the bugsters did to her.
We see it with Parado too. While he does fight humans, he can indeed keep Emu alive and it doesn’t seem to harm him whenever he does this. (Though, Parado is a weaker example, due to his and Emu’s unique situation.)
But Graphite doesn’t know this. All he knows is battle. Survival of the fittest.
He could’ve stopped at Saki and went the peaceful route had he had someone to guide him into that way of living, but instead, the other humans hated him and Kuroto took him, which just led to more bloodshed and more lives lost.
Graphite doesn’t know a life without battle.
Which is why when Parado reaches out to him, offering him another way of life, he didn’t accept the offer.
His violent, aggressive instincts had been reinforced throughout his whole lifetime. So much so that it would take the effort and time (that Parado didn’t have) to undo that.
He chose battle over love in the end because that’s all he ever knew.
What if Semo sees himself in Ogong so much so that his hatred for himself ends up with him hating Ogong too?
Or he gets envious that despite them being so similar in terms of circumstances, Ogong copes with it all so well while Semo is a complete mess.
And that envy develops into resentment, but it mixes with the genuine love he feels for his friends, and he can’t fully hate Ogong, who didn’t even do anything wrong.
So now he just has to cope in his style. Which is... just bottling his feelings up instead of actually coping. And he just ends up acting all weird about and around Ogong.
The fact Parado was canonically stuck in Build’s world for 2 years but it was only a few weeks in the Ex-Aid world complicates Parado’s age situation even more, I just realized.
Ex-Aid dares to ask a question no one has ever even thought of before: If ur childhood sickness (that you didn’t know you had) became its own person, do u take it upon urself to teach it morals
Being a ParaGraph shipper apparently means constantly questioning whether you genuinely imagined the entirety of their constant complicated loyal-ish relationship bcs how the heck did this gayass fandom not catch their dynamic at all???

Why does duri act so different in hod???
Duri in hod lost his passion for almost everything he used to adore in OG, like football _I'm not calling it soccer IT'S A BALL YOU PLAY WITH YOUR FOOT WHY DO SOME PEPPLE CALL IT SOCCER AND RTEN CALL SOEM BALL GAME TOJ PLAY WITH UR HANDS "FOOTBALL"!!???!_
In addition to this, Duri also became extremely... muted idk?? He’s so washed out, which is not like our original bright, loud, overconfident Duri at all!
My (extremely overexaggerating) theory is that he developed some kind of minor depression which changed his personality.
Why do I say this is a potential explanation for the change in his character?
Because, afaik, when someone has lived a life full of adrenaline rushes and high-energy and fast-paced actions, and their source of constant adrenaline suddenly stops, it is possible they could develop depression.
We could kind of fit Duri into this scenario. In the OG, he was constantly in danger and in high-energy environments due to tobot hero stuff, much like all the other kids.
He was also rather dependent on having the tobots and action as part of his daily motivation, which we could see in how he often got easily bored if he didn’t get to bring Y out for missions for too long.
So, it kind of makes sense that having the tobot action stop entirely (as it's implied/canon?? that in the gap between og and hod, no villains ever showed up and that’s why they were surprised when villains showed up again in hod) would hit Duri the most
The loss of that primary source of adrenaline would probably bring him down a lot, which would explain why he is so washed out and not as vibrant as he used to be in og
And iirc, depression could permanently alter one's personality even after they have healed from it
Even though Duri got that high-energy lifestyle back by having villains to fight again, he's still extremely different from his past self and might not regain his passion for a lot of things he used to love for a while
This would also make sense to explain why he barely seemed to care whenever Semo got hurt or got close to a mental breakdown throughout hod. Depression can affect someone’s sympathy, empathy, and compassion levels.
I am reading way too deep into this but I need something to excuse HoD's weirdass characteration. Characterize? Characterization?

Somethinf to be said about them flattening Hana to "soft smart guy" and whatever the fuck they did to my beloved carcrash duo (limosemo), but I found duri’s change more interesting and I needed to make up an explanation for it. Unfortunately I am a 10th grader not a psychology major and this is a fandom theory not based on any studies.

The thing about Duri is that while Semo and Hana are both calm and like a calm environment, Duri is chaotic af and needs his surroundings to match that energy. Or something. Idk
