She was not sure if what she was feeling now could be compared to what someone returning from war was feeling. After all wasn’t the tragedy of a soldier that he remembered what he had done? What he had seen? Or how it had felt? But Ava remembered nothing. Only fire and darkness, waking up on burned forest floor. But she did not tell him that. All her life she had been proud of being a witch, but right now she would have given anything and everything to get rid of every trace of magic, every trace of memory. Ava nodded as she listened to him, her mood getting a little bit better at least. It was kind of him, to help her like this. “Then I shall make sure to get the best dog treats they sell. After all Winston deserves a thank you for all he is doing to help me”, she smiled while petting the dog. His owner deserved even more thanks, but Ava was sure he’d refuse any attempts she could make. “It’s getting late though, isn’t it? Maybe I should head home”, a sigh left her lips, “I am staying with my mom and after all… I do not want to scare her even more”, she said her goodbyes to the gentle dog and then got onto her feet. “Thanks for talking to me, Dwight. Can I ask a favour of you though? It’s all right if you say no, if it is too much”
Dwight gave the younger woman a sad smile. The world could be cruel, even to those who didn’t deserve it. He’d seen that a lot in his life, both in the human and supernatural worlds. There was darkness and it was often people like Ava who were harmed by it. He nodded as she spoke. “You’ll make him a very happy dog. He’s easy to please,” he laughed gently. “I can take you? I don’t mind. I am sure your mom wants you near her side and you probably need her right now more than you know.” He nodded. “Of course, you don’t need to thank me for that. Yes, you can ask me anything.”
