Brief 03 | Self-directed Brief
The first direction that I decided to take for my idea of a canned coffee beverage was a simple, minimalist styled that is aimed towards students, workers, with the age range being around 18 - 40 year olds. I came up with this direction because I wanted to design a drink that is able to match people who are on-the-go at early hours or during cold weather, and that may want to have a hot drink that is easy to grab and take out, and is also able to give them the caffeine boost that they need to start their day. Along with this I want the packaging to match this idea with a cold morning theme. I plan to communicate this idea by using a minimalist single line artwork along with sophisticated typography to go along with this design. I plan to make the colour palette consist of mostly cool colours along with a pop of red or orange to create that feeling of warmth.
The second direction that I decided to take for my canned coffee drink was a brightly coloured and busy styled that is aimed towards a younger demographic, roughly between 18 - 30. I came up with this direction because I wanted to design a coffee that had packaging that is able to match the high energy boost that you want to get from a caffeinated drink. I want it to be something that is over-the-top and draws your eye towards it easily, and I want it to appeal to younger people and stand out against the traditional brown coloured coffee packaging that is most often seen on display. I plan to show this by having some sort of cute character take the centre of the packaging, who is seen wearing modern and trendy clothing. The character will be surrounded by busy images and patterns, and any feature that is able to draw your eye to the can and have it stand out as a fun and unique product. The drink will have a fun, bright colour palette and feature the name of the product in bold text.
