we don’t really know though, do we? We can tell Spike getting his soul had a huge impact on her, but the narrative never describes or explain how it makes her feel about herself. Because let’s be honest the reason behind him getting his soul wasn’t the purest even though his intentions were the best, to be the best that he could be for her, *to give her what she deserves*. So…yeah it’s pretty complicated. She can’t completely feel good about him getting his soul and at the same time, to go to that extreme for someone would make you feel…are there words? powerful? flattered? loved maybe. in a way no one has ever loved her before anyway.

You know what annoys me? People who claim that Buffy was “just lying to make him feel better about dying” when she told Spike she loved him in the finale, or that “she really meant that she was proud of him.”

People can be really deeply in denial when they don't like a ship, but to quote Miss Buffy Anne Summers herself; "Why do people think I'm still in love with Spike?"

Because her being in love with Spike was confirmed before that final scene of Spike going up in flames. Because she could have said "Why do people still think I'm in love with Spike?", but what she said has a very clear meaning and implication.

If people need to tell themselves that Buffy doesn't love Spike to make themselves feel better, that's... honestly, that's up to them. I, personally, have canon on my side and I don't need the validation of strangers when I can just watch Spike and Buffy be in love in canon.

I get to watch her be in love with Spike on the show, I get to read her be in love with Spike in the comics. That's all I need, I don't need negative people trying to undo canon, because they don't have that kind of power. They can't rewrite the canon text, they can't undo what's been said and done and evidently been shown in canon. Sucks for them, but I don't care ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

so people on reddit have voted pretty strongly that they didn’t think spuffy could happen if Buffy hasn’t been depressed. well, i still disagree. Other than the obvious sexual tension, Spike proved himself enough for her to be interested in return. She didn’t have to kiss him in Intervention to thank him. And Her opening her door to him was significant and also to trust him for protecting Dawn against Glory. I think it would have been slower than what we got in S6, kind of a slow burn for Buffy to come to terms to her feelings and what it meant to have feelings for a soulless demon,but it would have happened. Spuffy was planned since S4, the writers would have found a way. after all, in the world of Buffy, anything can happen, right?
