"Blink dogs have a really fascinating physiology, I recently got a book to better take care of Nugget, while you were, ah, away. It seems depending on the diet they are on as puppies, their personality and temperament differ. A meat based diet makes them more aggressive and monster like, but more variety and plants makes them act similar to normal dogs. So, um, I hope you don't mind that I haven't been feeding him much meat, I didn't want to risk him hurting Luc."
“Well, he wouldn’t–” Jester stops herself, taking a deep breath. Her dog would never hurt anyone unless asked to do so, he’s a very good boy with excellent manners. And, perhaps, too much energy. But he’s good. No matter what foods anyone gave him. Still, it is already enough that she’d asked Yeza to take care of his dog with Luc for her so he wouldn’t get hurt, it would be unfair of her to get offended on his behalf when she’s almost never there to watch over him anyway. “That’s actually really good, actually. That you’re looking that stuff up, ‘cause I never did, you know? And he needs someone who’s gonna make sure he stays happy and healthy. So I don’t mind,” she shakes her head, putting on a smile, “… I told him to be good with you guys, though, so you know, he would never, like, hurt you or Luc or anyone here, even if he’s being a little bit, um… feral and stuff.”
Yeza’s eyes widened, and he waved his hand reassuringly, “Oh, I didn’t meant to imply he’d hurt us on purpose or that you gave my son a dangerous animal! It’s only that the book on Blink Dogs states that one that consumes more meat becomes more aggressive and wild, as though it was untamed and not a pet. And with how uh... big Nugget is, bigger than a normal non magical dog anyway, uh.”
He stopped, looking uncomfortable as he tried to find the right words to explain, “Halflings are already small, and Luc is only 5 and still small enough for me to hold him. It would be unsafe for him to be anywhere near Nugget at all if his diet was meat, even though he is a well behaved dog.”
He scratches the back of his head, giving her a little smile as he looked at her over the top of his glasses, “I just wanted you to know his diet is mostly vegetables and fruits, with some small meat treats every now and then, in case you might have brought him some food. He, he does seem to be alright eating pastries, chocolate doesn’t seem to bother him like normal dogs, that was a bit of a scare when I saw Luc had given him a chocolate candy.” he chuckled awkwardly.
“I could lend you the book as well, if you wanted, so you could read a bit about Blink Dogs? It really is fascinating, both their physiology and psychology as well as the explanation for why the diet matters in how the dogs personality alters as they grow.”
