You don’t remember much before you blacked out. Union guys threatening you, some with weapons, some just with words. Na Baekjin asked you where Baku was. You wouldn’t tell him. Maybe you should have risked his safety to protect yours. He was physically stronger, a skill fighter, and smart in these kinds of situations. He would’ve handled it, like he always did. But he was pushed between a rock and a hard place, and you just wanted to give him a break for even one day.
After he had refused to continue doing Baekjin’s little tasks, he came to stay with you. No one knew about you. At least, Baku thought no one knew about you. It wasn’t hard for the Union to track you down, figure out the connection between you two, and use you as leverage to get to Baku. Baekjin freely used your boyfriend’s friends and father, and now you.
You attended a completely different school; only saw Baku on some days of the week. You kept yourself out of the trouble the guys were facing. Baku didn’t want you to get involved in any way, and only told you the least concerning parts of what was happening. It shouldn’t have to concern you what mess Eunjang High was facing. It was his job to deal with it. He never thought Baekjin would somehow get his hands on you.
When Baku got the impudent call from Baekjin asking if he would still refuse to do what he wanted when they had you hostage, he saw red. More than a few faces left bloodstained that night. Baku left with you in his arms.
You stirred in his arms halfway back to your apartment, groaning in pain and blinking your eyes open. He walked a little slower and held you a little tighter.
“Baku… I’m sorry.”
“Don’t apologize. I should’ve made sure they never got to you. It’s on me for thinking they wouldn’t find you,” he sighed, gulping down the guilt and trying to find the means to smile. For you.
“Hey… I’m okay. You got me now,” you closed your eyes again, smiling through the exhaustion and pain. Being in your boyfriend’s arms always gave you a sense of comfort. Even when you had bruises all over your body and multiple cuts. Even when you could still picture it all fresh in your mind.
Baku had the basic first aid kits in his room, along with plenty of bandages he was used to applying by himself. He made sure you were comfortable on his bed before starting to inspect where all your injuries were.
“Tell me honestly. How badly did you beat them up?” you asked, nervous for the answer. Baku knew not to cross the line, but there was no one he was more protective over than you. As soon as you got hurt, all sense went out the window. You could imagine the levels he could reach to get back at them.
“They’re all still alive,” he said carefully, flashing you a reassuring smile that did nothing to curb your worries.
“Park Humin.”
He frowned, hands pausing their unwrapping of a large bandage. “Don’t call me that.”
“Baku,” you corrected, your voice softer this time. “Violence isn’t the answer for violence.”
“It’s the only language they understand,” he said simply. “I don’t like it either. You know I’d never fight someone unnecessarily,” he reached for your hand, the gentle squeeze he gave you enough to relax your tense muscles.
“I know. I just don’t want you to get hurt too.”
He nodded, “I’ll make sure I don’t then, okay?” He smiled; the kind of big grin that you could always count on to make you feel better.
“Okay,” you smiled as well. More tentative and held back than Baku, like you knew that the situation was much more complicated than promises to not get hurt could suffice for. But you chose to let his words silence your anxiety for a while. For the current moment, you were both safe. That was all that mattered.
“Let’s get you bandaged up,” Baku got back to work, disinfecting any scrape or cut and covering them with carefully placed bandages. Each time you winced from the pain, he would kiss you gently, and by the end of it, the pain wasn’t so bad anymore.
Some people only saw your boyfriend as loud and overbearing, while others feared his physical strength. Most students at Eunjang High respected him, but rarely did they ever get to know him. Few knew the challenges he faced, and even fewer knew how caring he truly was.
But you knew him inside out, and if there was ever anyone who you would stick by for the rest of your life, Baku was just that.

it was 2am.
you have no idea how you were still awake at this time — the moon reflecting even in the darkest nights. you weren't sure how exactly you ended up in this situation, but one thing you were sure is that you missed him. you miss gyeong-su.
you've been staring at your ceiling for heaven knows how long as you toss and turn, sighing frustratedly as you pick up your phone. you were hesitant on calling him. what if he's asleep? were you bothering him? what if he didn't want you calling him?
endless thoughts were flooding in your mind as you desperately think of ways on what to do. you know what? fuck it — as you opened your contacts and pressed the call button. you just hoped you weren't bothering your poor boyfriend who was now, no doubt sleeping peacefully.
"hey"
"hiii love" he sounded sleepy. ah — he must've just woken up. "why are you calling me this late, you okay?" voice laced with confusion and worry.
"yeah, it's just that i can't sleep you know?" you responded. that wasn't entirely a lie, but you weren't going to tell him that you called around 2 in the morning, most likely bothering his sleep — just for you to say that you missed him.
"having trouble sleeping again?" he says in a calming tone but you can hear the sound of blankets being shifted and slippers getting tossed around. what was he doing?
"hmm" you hummed. it wasn't a rare occasion for you to sleep this late as you almost stayed up almost every night.
"okay, i have to go. go try and sleep soon. put your phone down yeah? i love you. byeee!" he replied. that was the last thing he said before he hung up the phone. you probably interrupted his sleep and he was going back to bed again. oh well. atleast you called him and you managed to hear his voice — one of the many things that gave you comfort.
your eyes lifted around the room, looking and searching for things that might distract and put you to sleep. you were now staring at the clock that marked nearly 2:30 in the morning.
oh, it's been almost half an hour since you called him. you were about to pick up your phone as there was nothing else better to do, but you were interrupted by a single knock on your door. what?
"hey, it's gyeong-su"
you let out a relief sigh — atleast it wasn't someone trying to rob, or worse..murder you but your eyes were now wide open.
what the fuck was he doing at your house at this time? i mean, you weren't exactly complaining but did he seriously just came all the way here just because you said you couldn't sleep?
"come in" you whisper. you were almost sure that he didn't hear you but the door swung open and there stood gyeong-su, a shit-eating grin plastered on his face as he made his way onto your bed.
"why are you here?" you questioned. in all honesty, you thought he went back to sleep but you weren't exactly surprised that he came in your house. it's gyeong-su after all, he's the type of person who do unexpected things.
"do you want me to go back to my house then?" he smirked, voice dripping in sarcasm as he moved closer to your body.
"you know that's not what i meant" you reply, as you lay your head on top of his chest as you feel your eyelids getting heavy.
"i thought you couldn't sleep but now you're almost falling deep into slumber" he teases, head shaking as he added "you lied didn't you?"

"nothing happened i promise, i just miss you is all" you confess truthfully. you lifted your head just enough to see his face. he was smiling at you, and he pulled you even more closer to his body.
"i missed you too" he whispered into your ear as you smiled and he pressed a kiss onto your temple.
"i'm getting sleepy" you yawned through the words. you felt safe in his arms, a sense of comfort hugging your entire body everytime you're with him.

you and gyeong-su have been best friends since you were kids, so it was a normal occasion for you to walk together on the way to school.
"psssst" he whisper-yelled, trying to get your attention but you payed no mind, just the sweet smell of the early morning dew and the soft chirping of birds.
you hummed as he tried to get your attention once again, but you almost stumbled as he lightly pushed you — a soft chuckle was earned from the boy beside you, who was trying his best not to laugh.
"you think that was funny you dumbass?" referring to the situation he pulled earlier. in all honesty, you weren't even mad at him. you didn't even think you can be mad at the boy who was now staring at you, slightly worried with a confused look etched on his face. cute.
"what? i didn't even do anything." he defended himself, "you weren't even paying a single attention to me!" as he dramatically huffed, rolling his eyes before looking on the other side of the road, avoiding your gaze.

"yes but just the two of us, um only this time" he lets out nervously, scratching the back of his head and lowering his gaze. why was he acting so weird?
"of course gyeong-su" as you hesitantly nodded. you can't exactly say no to him anyway. "now come on — we don't want to be late for school" you announced, remembering the time where you were both marked as late for being seconds away from reaching the school. you didn't want to experience that again.
time passed by quicker than you imagined, as you were now on your way to the cafeteria — gyeong-su beside you as he lets out his signature whistle.
you were now in the cafeteria, on the most corner as gyeong-su insisted that it was for the best. you were still confused, but you didn't know that this was his second attempt of trying to confess to you — last time he tried to do it, he was interrupted by someone calling your phone. great timing.

you eventually got inside of a classroom with your other classmates or friends, but that was almost an hour ago you assumed. gyeong-su was now staying in the recording room as he was accused of being bitten by a zombie. of course, by nayeon.
it was dumb, honestly. he would've turned into a zombie by now and you couldn't imagine him, the one person you were inlove with since you were kids — turning into one of those. it hurts just thinking about it, losing the only person you trust and love the most.
minutes passed, nayeon had to go in the room and apologize to him. nothing happened. you were relieved but mostly pissed at nayeon for letting him stay in there in the first place, but he didn't seem to mind. you just wished you had spent your time with him or something — not being forced to go in the recording room for some stupid accusation that he was bitten.

"no! you stay away, you- i can't, just please, don't get any closer to me." he pleaded. he was a sobbing mess and there was nothing you could do. you hated seeing him like this. he was shaking and his nose were dripping blood — an indication he was bitten. you didn't want to believe it, he was perfectly fine minutes ago. what happened?
"look gyeong-su, i can't just let you suffer like this." you said, you were now begging for him to let him help you as tears began to uncontrollably fall from your eyes.
"i can't let you — just, i have to say something before i go okay? and then i'll leave, i swear" he was trembling, shaking in fear as he tried his best to keep himself composed, for you.
"what? no, you can't just leave us gyeong-su!" you shouted in agony as others were trying to keep you from practically attaching yourself to him, afraid he might bite you but at this point — you didn't even care.
"i'm inlove with you, always have and always will. please, i love you — i don't care if you don't love me back, i just needed to say this before i go. i'm sorry." he said, as he was now reaching for the window.
you can't let him go.
"gyeong-su! i love you too for as long as i can imagine. please, why didn't you tell me sooner? WHY? i can't lose you like this, not when it has always been you and now you're-" you can't even finish your sentence but you begged him to stay, your sobs and cries pushed itself from your lips.
the sight alone made gyeongsu's heart drop. it stopped him cold, sick to his stomach. he was staring at you with wide eyes but he can't, he needed to leave. he was now considered a threat and danger to others.
"i'm sorry, i really am — i tried to tell you, i promise. i didn't mean for it to turn out this way " he lets out. he won't be able to control himself any minute now, he thought to himself.
"i love you so much. i loved every moment i had with you, always remember that." that was the last thing he told you as he closed his eyes before jumping down on the window.
you had dropped to your knees, trying to calm down yourself but you were still sobbing. he was gone — and you didn't had enough time to tell him how much happiness you've experienced with him.
how you were left with the motionless silence — hoping there was somehow a way to bring him back because you're still not done loving him. not now, not ever.
