You and Fraser were the couple.
No issues, no fights. You were always able to attend his home games, and he was always there when you were stressed out with final exams.
Even though you guys had only been together for a year, moving in together was quickly adjusted.
And that made everything between you two so much better.
The trust flowed between the couple. Fraser knew everything there was about y/n, and vise versa.
However, over time, Fraser kept coming home later. At first, it was an hour after games. Probably at a bar with the team. Then, the time kept extending. An extra thirty minutes everytime.
You knew not to worry about. This was Fraser. The same guy who wouldn’t take more than one shot because he was worried he would do something stupid to you.
So there was nothing to worry about.. right?
You knew better to mind your business when it came to his phone. Of course, Fraser trusted you with his, but you always thought it was like an invasion of someone’s privacy.
But one night, he got home a little late. Not at a concerning time, but at an hour where it was almost sketchy.
Fraser was showering, and you were in bed. But his phone just kept blowing up on the bedside table.
And damn, you tried to just ignore it. But every time you heard the ding!, signaling a new message? You couldn’t help yourself.
At first, it was only messages from Pasta or Loheri, the more you scrolled down his most recent’s, the name Kayla stood out. Then, she texted again.
“had so much fun tonight! see you again soon?”
The more you scrolled, the more messages you saw. However, Fraser was responding with shorter sentences. But still. Who is Kayla?
Fraser was still in the shower when your mind was playing every possible scenario possible.
He’s cheating, isn't he? Did y/n not keep him satisfied? Did Fraser get bored of her?
And when he finally got out of the shower, you were sitting up now, on the edge of the bed, his phone in hand.
“Who’s Kayla?” You said, your voice was calm. Not noticeably angry, or confused. Just very still.
“That’s McAvoy's sister.” Fraser called through the closed bathroom door.
McAvoy's sister? Like that makes anything better.
“Why’d she text you, ‘had so much fun, see you again soon?’”
“I dunno. We were all at a bar tonight. Maybe she thinks I’m funny.” Fraser joked, obviously trying to lighten the mood. “Don’t worry about it. She’s nice and all, just not my type.”
Not my type? That really fixes the situation.
“Don’t worry about it? That’s fuckin’ weird.” You said already moving a pillow and blanket out towards the couch.
“Y/n, c’mon, relax. She’s nice, but just a friend.” Fraser said, finally emerging from the bathroom, the steam from the hot shower emerging along with him.
But when he noticed you weren’t in the room?
“Look, I’m sorry. She really is just a friend,” he said, walking out of their bedroom, out to the living room. “If it makes it any better, I’ll block her, okay?”
“Yeah, whatever.” You said, crossing your arms over your chest as you tossed his phone back to him. “I’m sleeping out here tonight. Dont stay up all night texting her.”
It was petty really. Even halfway through moving pillows and blankets to the living room, you realized. But your pride.. just tonight.
You didn’t let Fraser get another word in. You just, turned your back, and went to hopefully get a little sleep tonight.
The sleep was not as comfortable as you thought. Not because you were on a couch or anything, but there was a missing piece. Or.. a missing person.
You never slept well when Fraser was at away games. It always felt like a part of you was missing. It felt colder without your personal furnace next to you.
And tonight was no exception.
Even halfway through the night, you made tea. The tea that always put you to sleep in under twenty minutes. It was defective. You were immune.
And when morning came? You got about.. an hour and thirty minutes of sleep. Which was usually the amount of sleep you got when Fraser was away.
He was only in the other room, yet it felt like he was hundreds of miles away.
Maybe their "argument" wasn’t even considered one. Maybe it was just Fraser being the nice, and patient guy he was, and you were being petty.
When you decided it was probably time to get up, coffee was the first place you went.
Perhaps it was the lack of sleep you had gotten, or the coffee machine whirring in your ear, but you hadn’t heard the bedroom door open, and Fraser stepping out.
“Hey.” He said, his voice steady.
You whipped around, your reflexes somehow on edge right now.
“Oh, hey,” you exhaled slowly, fully turning around to face him. “..how’d you sleep?”
Your voice was quiet. Not meek, but smaller. And when the coffee machine shut off, and all sound drained? The silence was so deafening.
“Could’ve been better.”
“Yeah.. same.”
You nodded, toying with a loose string on your shirt.
“Look.. I’m sorry about last night. You’re just being nice to her.” You finally said, crossing your arms over your chest. “I was being petty.”
“You definitely were.” Fraser said, a breathy laugh leaving his lips. “..but.. you were being protective. And that’s sort of hot.”
“You’re ridiculous.” You chuckled, stepping forward tentatively, your hands dropping on his shoulders.
“Says the person who got mad at me for texting my teammates sister.” His hands coming out to rest on your waist.
"Whatever. Fuck you." You let out a breathy chuckle, avoiding his gaze at all costs. Not in a bad way, but if you looked a little too close at him, every layer of pride would strip down.
