Chapter 30
Myrtle looked through the window, contemplating the outside.
It was early on a cloudy morning. In a few hours, the calm would slowly slip away, dissipating under the gentle noise of the Spice District's waking traffic.
"It was the best decision we'd ever made!" Agatha exclaimed, as she continued from the kitchen.
"Really?" asked Myrtle, amused.
"Yeah," Agatha replied, "We were glad we moved to San Myshuno! This city was wonderful! Our apartment was in the perfect location!"
Myrtle detached her eyes from the window and looked back. "It's a big change though," she said, "How did Agnes handle the drastic cottage-to-city transition?"
"She didn't mind! She needed the change! The change was good! To my surprise, she loved downtown!"
"She did?" asked Myrtle. "Well, Myshuno is beautiful so…" She laughed.
"Yeah, very beautiful", agreed Agatha. "I understand Agnes' enthusiasm over living here. You would think that the busy city would quickly deter her from leaving the cottage environment, but no. At first I thought it would just be a matter of time before she misses our previous home, just like would do someone who can't make up their minds!"
"I was already counting down the days to when she'd say it was a mistake," she added, while preparing the tea. "I told myself, 'I give it a week. She won't last longer than that here. Even before the week is over, she'll ask to move back home.' That didn't happen!"
Myrtle chuckled and started approaching the kitchen to check if any help was needed.
"Tea's ready!" Agatha exclaimed at that moment. "Sit down dear, it's piping hot!"
Sitting comfortably with their drinks, the two friends continued their talk.
"Took us a while to decide on this place, though," explained Agatha, "Agnes and I checked out a handful of other locations. We've thoroughly visited the Arts Quarter and the Fashion District."
"Oh" Myrtle said, nodding. "Anything there that caught your interest?"
"Houses, apartments, condos, we've toured dozens."
"You've been combing the city, huh?"
"With a fine tooth comb. We take finding a place to live very seriously."
Agatha paused, then said, "We've also visited Uptown."
"Uptown?" Myrtle asked, curious. "You've been up there?! I heard these apartments cost a fortune unless you're fabulously wealthy!"
"Agnes has plenty of friends that live there," said Agatha. "Some of her in-laws live there too, I believe. Her friends love to throw parties every so often. Extravagant, lavish parties. She always gets invited. The folks from there call themselves the Uptown Society… or whatever." The two friends laughed.
"How is it like?" Myrtle asked.
"The parties? Boring," Agatha replied. "The people? A bunch of selfish, egocentric, greedy, arrogant folks, who think they're the center of the universe."
"Ew," reacted Myrtle.
"The energy? Negative," continued Agatha. "The culture? Gossip, calumny, denigration, slander, and the worst, competition. They're all competing against one another, each one wanting to show that they're better than the rest or that they're the best."
"Certain rumors were true then," Myrtle realized. "I've heard the Uptown people are quite rude."
"They're definitely not the kindest," described Agatha. "It's not only high in altitude there, but in attitude. You have to live in Uptown before you can socialize with them or they'll judge you. For them, you're just some commoner."
"That's ridiculous," Myrtle said.
"These folks are so full of themselves that they will straight up discourage you from wanting to know them further. I could live there if I wanted to but not for the same reasons as them, not to feel superior or egotistical."
"How come Agnes has so many friends there? How she deals with them?"
Agatha had a light chuckle at Myrtle's question.
"There's a thing called hypocrisy," she replied. "Comes in handy when being around bad and fake people. Agnes just plays hypocrite."
"If I were Agnes, I'd rather be alone than being in bad company!"
"I'm wholeheartedly with you on that," agreed Agatha. "This is something the Uptown Society-wannabes should know."
"The wannabes?" asked Myrtle.
"Some groups who like to hang out around the Uptown folks," explained Agatha. "I always come across them during those fancy parties. They don't live there but they aspire to be part of the Uptown world, and therefore, they constantly praise the Uptown people, saying Amen to anything these folks regurgitate whether it's right or wrong, and it's rarely right."
She raised her eyebrows and said, "They're willing to go against their own values and morals just to please and appease a neighborhood of pretentious snobs full of disdain for others."
"That's sad..." Myrtle remarked.
"I don't know who is worst," Agatha wondered. "The Uptown folks or the wannabes."
"It's about what the Uptown represents, I guess," remarked Myrtle, "Being around up there, and doing what they do, I think it deems these wannabes to be approved and validated."
"Approved by presumptuous stuck-up snobs? Is that their validation's worth? No thank you. I don't want fame."
"The wannabes seem to suffer from an insatiable thirst for it though…"
Agatha looked up pensively and seemed in disbelief.
"They think that living in Uptown means something important." She shook her head and laughed.
"Tell that to Diego Lobo," Myrtle suggested.
"The second floor guy?" Agatha asked.
"His dream is to move to Uptown!" Myrtle said. "He thinks it's all heaven up there!" Agatha laughed again.
"I tried to dissuade him from being fooled by the appearances," deplored Myrtle, "But alas, he's in the clouds. You should talk to him!"
Agatha stopped laughing and said "Here's my advice to Diego, 'In bad places, around bad people, be an as*hole and go about your day!' "
"Oh my God, Agatha!" exclaimed Myrtle, shocked.
"What?" Agatha asked.
"No!" Myrtle exclaimed. "This isn't the kind of advice Diego would want to hear!"
"Why not?!" insisted Agatha. "What if he agrees with me? Bad attracts bad, just saying. What's wrong with being rude towards rude people? It's an instance where it only makes sense."
"I'm not going to tell him that," decided Myrtle.
"Why the heck not?" questioned Agatha. "It's not like I'd advise him to pester everyone!" She gave a large, evil smile, "Only those who deserve it."
"I'm sure the Uptown folks aren't all rude," affirmed Myrtle.
"Okay, maybe not all but most," said Agatha. "Been there, met them, remember? Anyway, tell Diego if a group of filthy rich try to belittle him, or if some negative pricks try to pull him down, he'd better let them know they've got nothing on him!"
"That's better," nodded Myrtle.
"But besides," added Myrtle, "The view from Uptown must be vertiginous! I heard the apartments are incredibly large!"
"The apartments are massive! The view is indeed extraordinary. Being in such a high-rise town definitely feels different. Maybe that's why people from those neighborhoods are a bit crazy! Living so high above the ground messes with your mind a bit!" The two women burst into laughter.
"Is it worth the price?" Myrtle asked after a minute. Agatha shrugged her shoulders, "I don't know. Of all the visited places, the Spice District was our favorite, so that's what we chose." She added, "To be precise, that's what I chose. Agnes just followed."
"Any particular reason why?" asked Myrtle. "I mean, besides the obvious Spice market."
Agatha chuckled, "The obvious is the reason. I cannot resist the call of spicy food!" They both laughed.
"Every time I eat at the festivals," continued Agatha, "My cravings for spicy food are completely fulfilled! It is so tasty that, for a moment, everything is okay, the world is one big beautiful place, everything is great, I indulge, I enjoy, and I'm like, 'yes, this is what I was bred for.' " Myrtle had a snort laugh.
"The taste is like no other!" continued Agatha, "I'm on a mission to learn every recipe the spice market ever had so I can cook them myself at home. I want to experiment with them, change them up, try different seasonings, mix other ingredients and create new recipes out of them! The food stalls from down the street have amazing meals on their menu. I can't wait to learn how to make those!"
"Remember to invite me for dinner when you do!" Myrtle reminded, "I love spicy flavors!"
"Dinner, lunch, brunch, dunch, feel free to come uninvited," said Agatha. "My home is also your home, after all. You're my friend."
"Is it okay if I show up only when food is ready?" asked Myrtle.
Agatha giggled at her friend's question.
"You being a cordon bleu already," added Myrtle, "I can imagine the deliciousness of all the new stuff you'll be cooking up. Not to mention the aromatically spicy smell!"
"Ohhhh!...", said Agatha with a laugh, "The entire town will know whenever I'm cooking!"
"I might turn into the type of friends who only seem to visit when it's time to eat!" said Myrtle with a toothy grin.
Agatha burst out laughing, soon followed by her friend.

Merry, Merry! 🎄⛄️✨❄️
Amazing story there.
You write very well and you have a highly developed creative writing skill and storytelling. The narration and dialogues are excellent. I'm 62 years old and I so enjoyed browsing your blog to read your chapters. Good to see young people engaging their brains in something really creative.
Have you thought about writing a book?
Thank you so much for the kind feedback and for enjoying the story! Yes, book writing has been on my mind for a while -- I have a few drafts of collections of tales I've been developing for some time, and a couple of novel-length stories that I plan on publishing in the future.
Chapter 29
Myrtle took a deep breath, stretching her arms. "Ahhhhh…" She yawned longingly. "Oh my… you look quite tired, don't you?!" Agatha observed. "Would you like more tea, perhaps? I'll make some more!" "Huh? No, no" Myrtle said. "I'm good! I was thinking about heading home now."
"You're sure you don't want more of my wonderful tea you're so fond of?" Agatha asked. "The tea full of amazing ingredients!" Myrtle yawned again and smiled, "You win! One last cup before I go to bed."
"Roger that!" Agatha said. "One last cup! It will ease you to sleep, you'll see. You know my tea contain a plethora of stress-reducing agents, right? And a bunch of other things super useful for the body. It's good for you! Particularly for what you're suffering from!" "That's why I like it so much," agreed Myrtle. "Your tea is my favorite!"
"By the way, I shouldn't have kept you this long. I apologize. You've been here for hours now, waiting for Agnes with me. You didn't have to. Me and Agnes' problems don't concern you after all."
Myrtle took a few steps around the apartment and walked towards a window.
It was beginning to be less dark outside. Soon it would be dawn.
"What are you talking about? Of course it concerns me! You and Agnes are my friends! Earlier this evening when I saw you from the stairs, you were so worried! That made me worry too!"
"Agnes is driving me crazy," Agatha affirmed. "I appreciate you coming over. You're a breath of fresh air. Your company kind of kept me away from worrying even more, so thank you. But still, sorry."
"That's alright!" Myrtle said. "We got carried away in the conversation and lost track of time. It happens all the time! I didn't mind waiting for Agnes. Thank you too for trusting me enough to tell me what's happening, what's really going on…"
"She still hasn't returned my calls nor answered my texts." "She will, hopefully. Soon. Who knows? Maybe for once, things went normally on her end?" Agatha sighted at that.
"You know what?" Myrtle said "Agnes will be thrilled to find out the extent you're willing to go in order to break the curse!"
"If I don't, who will?" Agatha asked. "She can't save herself, she's too scared! She won't take action and I don't blame her. She's confused."
"She was so sad when I first met her," Myrtle remembered.
"I can't tell you how I felt the first time I witnessed her vent about her breaks ups… I think it was when you moved in this building."
"I hope you were not too bothered by that behavior of hers…," Agatha said. "Not at all," Myrtle reassured.
"It definitely wasn't the best way to meet your new neighbors, was it?" Agatha asked. Myrtle shrugged her shoulders, "I knew dead-on she was going through some harsh times. New neighbors or not, I didn't judge."
"Agnes usually doesn't show her emotional side in public," explained Agatha, "Especially crying in front of somebody she doesn't know well. She'd rather hide certain feelings and put manners first! A flawless first impression is always her goal when meeting new people."
She took a pause, then said, "After those strange events, however, being reminded of the happenings would sometimes trigger her panic. She'd freakout anytime, anywhere, without regard to who was watching. She'd mumble a lot, she'd mention her husband and… and how the events occurred after he passed away."
"Her late husband was a frequent subject of talk," continued Agatha. "She was depressed, and on top of that, dealing with rude in-laws." "Oh no… These can be the worst! The in-laws..."
"They've been giving her a hard time since the man died. They were quite rude during her mourning time. I even had to intervene once or twice just so they could back off a little. She was thrilled I was there!"
Looking in the void, Agatha seemed transported several years back, "Agnes and I lost touch when she got married. It wasn't like in college years when we used to have fun all the time, spending time together and sharing everything. Now her husband was her everything."
"She had her life, I had mine," added Agatha. "She loved this married life of hers over everything else until… well, you know what happened. He died. His funerals, however, brought Agnes and I closer again. I've multiplied my visits to her place, to see how she was doing. Our bond was back. We were 'sisters' again and it felt great, especially after life parted us."
"Losing touch with close ones is so common after marriage...," Myrtle said quietly.
"That was no longer the case with us, thankfully," Agatha said. "After the funerals, Agnes asked me to move in with her. She needed family close-by, family support. Not in-laws harassment. Real support."
"Definitely." Myrtle agreed, nodding.
"So I went there and stayed a few months until we decided to move out. Too many things reminded her of her husband. She needed a fresh start. A new place was a good idea. We decided to leave the cottage life for the city life."

San Mysh'
Chapter 28
Agatha let out a sigh. "She's your cousin," Myrtle pleaded, "She's your family. Imagine being in her shoes!"
There were a few seconds of silence, then Agatha shook her head 'no' with a light chuckle.
"I'm serious," Myrtle insisted. "Okay and? I'm not allowed to refuse being involved with Agnes' problems?" Agatha asked.
"Oh, please! As if that could even cross your mind! You? Refuse?! You wouldn't!"
Agatha exhaled, "You're right, I wouldn't."
She turned around. Her face shifted from deeply thoughtful to falsely joyful.
"I would never!" She exclaimed in a fake happy tone. "I love her too much for that! She's my cousin, right?"
"We're family, aren't we? Isn't that what family members do?"
"Or are, at least, supposed to do?"
"Ever since we were kids, I was always there for Agnes! In the good, the bad and the ugly times!"
"Especially in the bad and ugly times..."
"All these years until now, nothing really changed in our lives! It's just like in the past! Me trying to fix her mess!"
"I'm glad you won't let her down," Myrtle said, "Agnes is one of my favorite friends. I adore her. After all that she's been through, I wish her nothing but happiness! I think she deserves it."
She added, "I wish I could help her myself but... I'm too much of a wuss!..."
"No, you're not." Agatha reassured.
"I don't have your courage..." Myrtle continued. "You already know my issues with nightmares, how one little fright can give me sleepless nights for weeks. My mind get so scared that I become paranoid. Remember the time I couldn't be alone in my own apartment for months?"
"Yes," Agatha replied, "I remember. But you fought it! You fought your racing thoughts successfully. You got over your paranoia."
"It never really went away," said Myrtle in a mildly sad tone. "It's intermittent. But thank God my kids come over sometimes to keep me company when I'm too scared alone. I know you tried to make me face my fears and all but... well I'm... I'm working on that!"
"Oh, good!", Agatha encouraged. "Keep working on it and you will overcome your fears! Don't you ever stop. Only you can make the change you are seeking in your mind."
Myrtle sighted slightly, "Anyway, I strongly wish for Agnes to get rid of that curse!"
"You know... I always tried my best to protect Agnes when we were growing up," Agatha recalled. "Whether she was in trouble at school or at home, I was there to solve her problems and it became a habit. From kindergarten all the way through those lovely high school years up to college."
Agatha took a deep breath, "I will continue to try whatever and however I can do to get her out of trouble. Whichever kind of trouble it is..."
"...Even the supernatural ones."
"Her troubles are my troubles. Always been. I'm so blessed."
"Her problems are my problems. That's so great, I'm so fortunate."
"Her curse is my curse. What a dream! It's all I asked for."
Oblivious of Agatha's contradictory facial expressions, Myrtle seemed thrilled by her friend's words.
"She's so lucky to have you!" Myrtle said.
Agatha turned around with a serious face and looked at her friend straight in the eye, "I'll speak to a priest, I'll consult a psychic, I'll convoke a shaman, I'll summon a witch, I'll call a medium, I'll invite a spirit worker..."
"You're the best!" exclaimed Myrtle.
"Anything that puts me on the right direction to protect Agnes from being haunted."
"I'd give you the cousin of the year medal or something!"
"Yeah... I'll do all I can to help Agnes."

The Bastion Spire by @lesmana-enterprise-ltd looks amazing in game. I didn't run into any issue so far. I had bb.moveobjects on before installing. Everything worked well.
The areas of the building, the theater, restaurant, underground metro station, library etc., and other places on the different floors are nicely done.
I have yet to explore the inside in depth but I look forward to. Great builds.

Chapter 27
Agatha remained perplexed at Myrtle's words.
"Don't give me that look." Myrtle said. "You know it's true."
She added, "You can't deny it or else you're trying to cover the sun with one hand."
Agatha breathed out a deep sigh.
"You have to break Agnes' curse," Myrtle continued, "Or her life will be completely ruined."
Agatha looked up as she usually does when she's about to pray, except this time she sounded falsely melodramatic. She went on mumbling quietly in a monologue.
"As if I didn't have a life of my own to worry about too."
"Here I am having to deal with a major curse that I didn't even request. Yet I'm being required to break it. What if my life gets ruined in the process?"
"Of all the people in the world, billions of people, it had to be a relative of mine who gets cursed. Who did I piss off to deserve this?"
Myrtle shaked her head at that question.
"Agatha", she said, but her friend kept going.
"Higher Power Upstairs," prayed Agatha, "My neighbor from across the street, who by the way has a lot of cousins, doesn't live far from us. He doesn't know his cousins by name and fails to identify which one is which."
"Agatha," Myrtle called.
Agatha kept praying, "He also has trouble remembering exactly how many they are, while I only have one that I know very well and who is dearest to me."
She then asked in her prayer with a hopeful tone, "Higher Power, if I show you which apartment he lives at, will you inflict the curse to him instead of Agnes? So that she can be released and free?"
The fake imploring from her friend to the Higher Power prompted Myrtle to say, "Cut it out", to which Agatha abided momentarily and breathed in deeply.
"Seriously though," said Agatha, "How I wish things were back the way they were before all the strange occurrences! Agnes and I were just enjoying our little lives in peace. Peace. It's all I'm craving."
"The world is such a place," she added, "that simply trying to have a good day is a challenge, a goal of its own, a freaking adventure."
"I wholeheartedly agree with you on that," said Myrtle.
"You laugh today, you'll cry tomorrow," Agatha remarked. "It's like you can't be happy more than two days in a row or something. "
"Hmph...," sighed Myrtle.
"Facing events that you can't control is one thing but putting yourself in the wolf's mouth for the sake of someone else is another."
"What do you mean?" inquired Myrtle. "I know what you mean but, I mean, you're not... saying you don't wanna..."
"What if I tell you I don't want to deal with Agnes' issues? What if I decide that what she's going through isn't my problem?"
"That would be unlike the Agatha that I know."
"I sure could tell you about some people who would flee first as soon as you go into trouble. Some so-called close friends or family."
"You're not like them," Myrtle said, "You're good people."
"I know you're scared," added Myrtle, "You were just as shocked as we all were by the strange events, trying to make sense of things. I understand that this whole curse thing has taken a toll on you but…"
"Would you in all honesty let Agnes deal with this alone?"
Agatha took a few steps, then turned back to look at her friend. At that moment, Myrtle said to her, "Help Agnes."

Myrtle seemed dubious and sad.
"Don't make that face, Myrtle. It makes you look miserable!" Myrtle inhaled and let out a heavy sigh, "Hmmph..."
"You don't want to dwell onto fearful thoughts. Trust me, it will do nothing but pressing you down into more fear!"
"I told Agnes the same thing when she came up with the idea of some curse being upon her."
"Did you just say…"
"A curse?!"
Agatha shaked her head, "Believe me when I tell you the number of times I tried to reason with Agnes about the curse thing!"
"She wouldn't listen! It was already ingrained in that skull of hers. She was too affected by her own thinking. What do you think would happen?"
"You see, when a stress-inducing idea is deeply anchored into someone's head, it's difficult to get it out."
"Just like seeds, Myrtle, ideas grow roots. Roots become plants that mature into fruit-bearing trees."
"The fruits of stress produce more distress. Same with your fears. Focus more on them and you get more in return!"
"Agnes was telling me everyday about the curse that she believed had been cast on her and by who? No one knows! She would then ask me countless questions on what I knew about spells."
"She really believed someone did something to her. She said 'they' wanted to ruin her chances of marriage and happiness."
"They?"
"Who's 'they'?"
"Not a clue. She affirmed that 'they' are trying to hurt her! She was certain of it! I myself tried multiple times to think of a logical explanation to the strange happenings but..."
Myrtle had a nervous little laugh, "There's none." Agatha looked at her with interrogating eyes.
"There's none," Myrtle repeated. "No logical explanation." Agatha looked down, and sighed.
"Do you believe in ghosts?" Myrtle asked. "Do I… what?"
"You used to back in the day," Myrtle recalled. "You were quite eloquent on what's true regarding certain unexplained phenomena." Agatha had a brief chuckle. "It was more about debunking what's fake," she said. "But that was a long time ago."
"Do you still believe?" Myrtle asked.
Agatha opened her mouth but no sound came out from it. She exhaled. She seemed battling with her own thoughts for a moment. She squinted her eyes and looked away.
She stared in the void under the curious eyes of her friend. Myrtle really wanted to know what was going on in her friend's mind, that very moment.
After a silence that seemed like a year, Agatha nodded and closed her eyes. Myrtle nodded as well, repeating her friend's head movement.
"I think she's right," Myrtle said.
"Huh?"
"Agnes," Myrtle said. "She's cursed."
"I guess the guy's plan was to propose to Agnes soon after they'd get to that quiet park," Agatha said. "He declared his love and told her she was the woman he was willing to marry. He also said he wanted to spend the entirety of his life with her."
"Oohh…," Myrtle said.
"Not long after saying that though, his attitude completely changed."
"He started to tremble. He then looked behind him and looked back at her, all distraught. He looked behind again and looked around. There was cold sweat flowing all over his face… until he froze like a literal statue... and that's when he screamed his brain out."
"Holy freaking moly…," Myrtle whispered.
"The look on his face, according to Agnes, was pure fright. Agnes tried to describe it to me the best she could. As she was speaking, I could feel, I could 'see' the guy's terror reflected on her face. Needless to tell you how shocked she was by his unexpected behavior. An even stranger fact was the temperature all around them dropping instantly. A summer night in the middle of July that felt unusually freezing."
"My goodness, Aggy…" Myrtle murmured.
"Are you okay?" Agatha asked, noticing the visible worry on her friend's face.
"These events are starting to get to me. I think I might not be able to sleep tonight. "
"What?!…"
"I haven't had any nightmares in six weeks!" Myrtle said before sighting.
"Myrtle-"
"I'm getting scared and I dread to sleep in fear alone at the apartment! My sons aren't there to keep me company."
"Myrtle, listen-"
"At least with their presence at home, I know who to run to when I hear a strange noise in the middle of the night!"
"Myrtle, you'll be fine!" Agatha reassured. "There's nothing hiding in your apartment. Please, don't let this get to you or you'll end up scaring yourself."
Agatha met her friend's eyes, "Do not let fear set into your mind. Apparently Agnes partners seem to be the target of these unknown events. Not her family, not her friends, and certainly not her neighbors. Nothing is coming after you."
"B-but... but what if it does? What if it spreads like a disease to other people? To anyone that Agnes has ever known?
"Myrtle, do not give into that kind of fear. That's one way to attract the negative. Get a hang of yourself, nothing will happen to you. We've yet to know what type of 'force' we're dealing with and now is not the time to dwell on 'what ifs', you hear me?"
"You…" Myrtle asked hesitantly, "You don't mean what you just said, do you?"
"As unsettling as it may sound," Agatha replied, "Sadly I do. Look at the pattern of the events. He will end up like the others before him."
She added, "It's as probable as the sun rising tomorrow."
"Is there anything that can stop it?" Myrtle asked. "Call them. Call Agnes."
"Believe me, I tried several times. I called and texted. She didn't answer. I have no idea what place they went to, what restaurant or club, although knowing any of that wouldn't change anything."
"Why not?" asked Myrtle.
"The actual events seem to occur when Agnes and her date are alone," Agatha said. "She had a date night at a bar with the guy she met before Marc."
She recalled, "It was last year, if I remember correctly, preceding her no-date period gap. When they left the bar, Agnes said they wanted to go stargazing."
"There was a park nearby that was quite empty," Agatha continued, while Myrtle listened. "It was a nice location for stargazing. Warm summer night, clear sky, no clouds, it seemed perfect at first."
