Hands up who's entire Insta feed is made up of requests to 'Turn On Notifications' today? Hands up if you've uploaded a similar image yourself? I won't be asking any of our followers to turn on notifications because, let's be honest, notifications are disruptive AF! I enjoy the content of the 1.7k accounts I follow, enough to have my phone ping 1.7k times 4-5 times daily? Oh. Hell. NAW! The Instagram algorithm is changing, not 'tomorrow' but soon. That doesn't mean you'll miss posts or have posts deleted, it means that Instagram will show you the posts it believes your most interested in first. You know how it knows that? Not through shady favouritism or a popularity contest, contrary to Chicken Little posts ~ It logs YOUR engagement, YOUR likes, YOUR comments, YOUR tags ~ that's how they already collate your bespoke 'Explore' Tab. I KNOW, RIGHT?! So here's what I'll be doing, instead of scrolling by with a wry smile or a slight chuckle, I'll be double tapping every image I like. I'll be commenting when content is truly beautiful, unique and/or hilarious. That's what this community is about, right? I'd already made a resolution to compliment people more so you might have seen more of me in your social media comments already, this is just the double tapping extension of that. Change is not always bad, these changes will benefit Instagram but, as with so many other things in life, we could actually use this change to our advantage too. I know I will!
