Clean Yumadot at Worlds!!!!!!! What a way to end this season. This is the greatest free skate of all time, I’m not even exaggerating. Yuma’s skating skills are next level, but also the presentation, the performance, the sublime jumps… this program is something else. What a moment.

Kaori Sakamoto’s greatness cannot be overstated. Four World Championship titles. Five World medals. Four Olympic medals. She is one of the greatest athletes ever in figure skating. Her gorgeous skating skills and her massive jumps (including her signature 2A) have had such a positive impact on competitive figure skating. Her leadership off ice has shaped what the competitive spirit in this sport should be about. She has made the sport of figure skating better, and she will be so missed from competition.

No, but Hero Jarvis and Sebastian St. Cyr are literally peak Regency romance. In What Darkness Brings, Hero is fully aware that she is in love with Sebastian, and she’s struggling internally with having given her heart to a man that she thinks will always love another. Meanwhile, Sebastian is out here wistfully leaning against doorways, watching Hero do things like… put her boots on. The man’s insane level of yearning while not yet being fully aware of the extent of his feelings for Hero is peak excellence, why do we not talk more about them?? He’s kissing her nose and affectionately teasing her about worrying about him and casually saying things like, “You are a wonder to me, Lady Devlin.” Like my guy’s yearning is crazy.

Hero threatens a man for speaking about her cat, and he says she’s as crazy as her husband. And she tells him that the difference between her and Sebastian is that he wouldn’t shoot anyone over a cat, but she would. And she’s right. Except Sebastian threatens that same man if he touches a hair on the cat, because that’s Hero’s cat, and he’s not letting anything happen to Hero’s cat.

Like the build-up to Sebastian revealing the truth about his parentage to Hero and telling her of his feelings for her, that he was wrong to think he couldn’t fall in love again, and her stopping him, because she doesn’t want him to tell her what he thinks she wants to hear… oh it’s just glorious. And he says, “I hope it’s what you want to hear, because I’m telling you how I feel.” And it’s so simple. Like of course. Of course, he loves her. And yes, they still haven’t resolved everything and anything in totality which makes it even better. There’s more to come, but in this moment, it’s enough. It’s revelatory. It’s everything. And, oh the romantic delight that immediately follows is gorgeous, and the romantic angst that later follows is equally delicious.

I measure time by figure skating competitions, obviously, so it’s mind-boggling to me that post-Olympic Worlds short programs begin tomorrow. Like what do you mean Worlds 2022 was four years ago? What do you mean next season is the beginning of a whole other quad?
