Okay angst drop now hahahaha
(Mal and Chester angst: in my AU, Mal is the reason Chester only has one eye since Mal took Chester’s other eye out.)
It happened in Mal’s earlier days of forming: he was scared and practically living in constant fight or flight mode. He took any kind of actions as threats, and of course he felt that he had to defend himself in any way he could. Thus, the incident.
They both hold trauma over this event (they’ve both definitely had nightmares over it) but this whole incident cause the alters to fully turn their backs on redeeming Mal, leading to more harmful punishments for his actions in front and headspace (this all happens before his dormancy btw - in my AU he went into dormancy due to the stress, trauma, and lack of support from the other alters).
Okay a silly image to end on cuz I feel bad for them
I guess Mal really had a bone (eye) to pick (tear out) with Chester ehhhhh🤷♀️
Svetlana is Chester’s favourite child 🥹🥹
Here’s some young Chester from my AU of the Mike sys - he was truly the rambunctious youngin’
Chester what happened to all of your charisma 😭
Anddd that’s how the Mike sys found out Chester is gay 🥹
My Mike sys AU headspace voice claims (basically how they’d sound in headspace without speaking through Mike’s vocal cords) plus my AU last names for them!!
Chester storyboard things and omg he’s adorable
He looks so adorable in this one ⬇️
I redrew that one in the TD style cuz I love it that much⬇️
He looks so evil hahahhahahaha
I wish more people liked Vitoba 🙁
It’s such an underrated and overhated ship 💔
We NEED to make more vitoba content that isn’t just fetish slop okay cus like the majority of Vitoba art I’ve seen (at least in terms of older stuff) has been super gross and satirical - like can we have some genuine nice wholesome Vitoba content please??
Or some angst. Either way. As long as it has nothing to do with foot fetishes or something. If anyone ever makes Vitoba content I MUST be notified immediately.
Advertising my current TDAS Mike sys wattpad rewrite here:
I’m currently working on a lengthy rewrite of the Mike sys in TDAS: basically the whole being trapped by Mal in the subconscious stuff.
It does include some of my own personal spins since it’s my AU: it does have some of my own Mike sys OC’s in it 🥹🥹
I have tried my best to make the DID rep better than TDAS, but that is up to yall to determine that.
If you wanna read it, there’s 12 parts out already on wattpad!!

CHAPTER NINE: A NEW REGIME.
Back at the headspace HQ, three people sit around a table at the top room (where once the alters played go-fish). A man, wearing a trench coat and possessing bright glowing cyan eyes (one of which has a question mark shaped iris), a woman with pink streaks in her hair and one pink eye, and a small child, who wears baggy clothes and has bright white eyes (no iris).
The man speaks up, having waited for much longer than necessary in his view, “Must we wait much longer to see the return of the Malevolent one?”
The woman scoffs at the man, her arms crossed tightly, “Of course you’d be the one asking these questions, Whyner. We need to stay put in order to figure out what is going on here.”
“Aren’t we meant to have seen Umbra by now?” Whyner asks again, his singular iris fixated on the woman sat on the other side of the table. “God only knows where she is right now. Probably off doing some evil deeds for the Malevolent one. That’s all she’s good for, afterall…”
They both hear the kid at the table sniffle, looking as though on the verge of tears as they grip their loose-fit sweater sleeves tight, “I-I’m scared…what does he want from us…?” The woman sighs, her voice less strict with the child. “To be honest, probably nothing good, Stormy. But I’m sure this little situation will be resolved in time…”
As she finishes her sentence, the sound of footsteps can be heard coming up the stairs of the HQ. From the top, Umbra emerges into the view of the three people around the table.
“Finally! And where have you been all of this time then? Out there torturing alters?” Ingress hisses at Umbra, her voice at a harsh tone.
“What I do for the Malevolent one is none of your business, Ingress.” Umbra responds in a cold yet oddly calm manner. Ingress merely stares sharply at Umbra as she continues to speak.
“Now, you three have been summoned here in order to discuss…serious system business. On behalf of the Malevolent one himself…” Umbra trails off as more footsteps are heard from the stairwell. “Ah, yes…here he comes now…”
Mal reaches the top, and he reveals himself to the others around the table: his demonic features seem to have grown stronger and more prominent since he re-emerged just days ago. His horns stick out like prongs on a pitchfork, his tail possessing sharp spikes that poke out dangerously, and his fangs - already fierce before - now akin to those of a wolf’s. He smirks at them all, hands behind his back.
“Welcome, components…for today will mark the dawn of a new regime in this system.” Mal speaks in a dark tone, revealing one of his hands to show off his clawed fingers, “From today, I will be reclaiming the title of “host”, a title that is rightfully mine…but for that to fully happen…I’ll be in need of some help…which is where you three-….wait…” Mal stops, his eye squinting slightly as his eyes gaze over an empty chair. “Where is Marzena?”
“They aren’t coming. Although it wouldn’t specify any reasons…” Ingress responds, staring at Mal with a unfazed expression.
Mal seems annoyed with this information: how could he possibly take over the system if people were gonna refuse his leadership? He growls deeply, before continuing his words. “Well then…that’s…no issue…I can still do this without them…anyway…you three will be necessary helpers for me in my plan to take over again. So…” Mal grins at the three people. “Will you join me?”
Ingress, Whyner, and Stormy all look at each other with differing expressions: Ingress seems unbothered by Mal’s demands, Whyner has an eyebrow raised questioningly, and Stormy is shaking and quivering in their seat.
There is silence for a moment before Ingress speaks up, her voice stubborn. “What would you do to us if we said no?”
Mal chuckles, taking a step closer to her. “Oh, Ingress…I’m afraid that ‘no’ isn’t an option anymore. You see…I’ve already won.”
“Oh? And how so?” Ingress stands up out of her seat, staring down the small demon child with disdain. “Mike is still the host, and unless you were able to get him out of front anytime soon, he will always remain the host.”
“So that’s all it takes? I’m sure I can manage that…afterall, I’ve been in and out of front a few times now…” Mal breathes heavily, a smirk still on his face. “And I’ll especially be able to accomplish that with your help.”
“My help? Oh please, you really think I’d willingly help you?” Ingress rolls her eyes. “You hold no power over me. I take orders from the host, and YOU, are NOT the host.”
“Oh but I will be. And you will take orders from me. But until then…I suppose I’ll have to force it.” He suddenly grabs her wrist and begins to twist it hard. Ingress yells in pain, being brought down to her knees. Stormy yelps with fright and covers their eyes, whilst Whyner arises from his seat.
“Is such forces like this necessary?!” Whyner’s voice booms over Ingress’s cries of pain. “Unhand her, won’t you?!”
“Not unless she shows me what I need to see. You know what I need of you. Now give it to me.” Mal growls in a dangerous tone, “or I may just snap it.” his grip on her wrist tightens and she cries out again. “S-stop! You beast of an alter!! O-okay fine! Just let go!”
Mal gives it one last squeeze before letting go, and Ingress grips her now swollen wrist with immense pain. “You-…you’re truly a monster…”
Mal rolls his eyes. “Tell me something I don’t know. Show me.” Ingress nods and shakily holds up her injured hand, conjuring something from the flesh ground: a long rectangular shape emerges from the ground with a reflective surface. It was a mirror.
Mal smirks, looking into the mirror. And what he sees pleases him very much…
He sees through Mike’s eyes, for just a fleeting moment: he appears to be walking through some strange jungle area, talking. Their voices were far away from Mal but he could still make out what they were saying.
“So…when you got hit in the head, you lost contact with them?” Zoey said, her tone concerned.
“Yeah…” Mike responds, also sounding concerned for what that means. “I don’t know why everything’s been so strange lately: they’ve all been quiet, even in my head and-…well…I’ve just not been feeling like myself yknow?”
“I know that too well by now…” Zoey sighs, looking ahead as they walked. “Wait…” she trails off, clearly questioning something, “don’t you wonder if…maybe…I dunno…another hit in the head would bring them back?”
“I-…I mean…” Mike sounds nervous at the idea, but doesn’t completely reject the thought. “It’s worth a try…right? It could be like- some sort of brain reset or something…could you maybe-?”
Suddenly, the mirror goes blank again, losing contact with the outer. world. Mal stares blankly at the mirror for a moment, before chuckling mischievously. “Oh….oh-ho-ho boy….what an idiot! Both of them! It’s like they’re both wanting me to just come out and play! Oblivious fools…they’ll all get what’s coming to them…”
The mirror sinks back into the ground, Ingress still cowering on the floor cradling her swollen wrist. Whyner stands beside her with a hand on her shoulder. He stares down Mal as he speaks: “so…after all of that chaos you’ve caused for this information, what’s your plan now?”
Mal smirks at Whyner. “That..is not for you to know. It’s for me to figure out.”
Mal turns his back on them and walks towards Umbra. He turns back to the three components with a prideful look on his face. “I know what my next moves are, but now you all must know your next commands. You see…I’ll need some guards for our…prisoners…” Mal’s tone becomes more commanding as he speaks. “Ingress, you’ll be needing to watch Svetlana, Stormy, you’ll be able to catch up with the old man…and Whyner…you’ll be the guard for our most important prisoner…”
“And what about that Vito alter? Shouldn’t he need guarding? Or Manitoba?” Whyner questions Mal sharply. Mal shrugs. “Oh, don’t you worry about them. Vito has his own special guard…and by the way things are going, good old Toto won’t be needing any guards….”
Mal laughs, clearly pleased with himself. He stares down at the injured Ingress and her swollen wrist. “Stand up and get that thing sorted out. Then go and find Svetlana. That’s an order.”
Ingress stands up shakily, Whyner helps her up. “All of you, go.” Mal ends coldly, and all of the components leave the room and head down the stairs, leaving Umbra and Mal alone.
“So…what is your plan?” Umbra asks him cautiously. She wanted him to complete his goal, but she also wanted to make sure he’s not going to get himself into too much danger.
Mal smirks at Umbra, his eyes flickering with mischief. “Don’t worry about me and my plans. Just know that this will most likely be the last you’ll see of me for a while…but whilst I’m away, I’ll need you to make sure this place is being run with a tight iron fist.” Mal chuckles. “In my honour, of course.”
Umbra appears uncertain for a moment, before nodding. “Of course, Mal. I won’t let them escape.”
“Good…good…well…I must go…who knows how long it’ll actually take before Mike’s stupidity gets the better of him?” He starts to walk away, cackling as he walks down the stairs. Umbra stays there for a moment watching him go, seeming worried for how this will pan out.
Mal walks through the subconscious, headed towards a boulder in the distance: it looked uncannily similar to Mal’s own head. He marvels at his own pride for a moment. Soon, everything would be just Mal. His time…
There are chains wrapped around the boulder, and a shackle at the end of it. Mal grabs the chain and binds it around one of his legs, locking it with a key. After locking it shut, he snaps the key in half and throws it way out of bounds and out of reach. He stares down at his shackled leg and laughs maniacally. Things were going to plan. Now he just had to…
Hardly any waiting was necessary, for at once he felt a switch. And with a poof, Mal was gone. A moment later, another poof. And Mike now lays in his place.
“W-wait…no….NO!!!”

CHAPTER EIGHT: AMONGST THE CLOUDS.
It felt like an eternity before Manitoba regained consciousness: the first thing he felt was a rush of harsh pain in the back of his head. He was laying on the floor...but why? Where was he anyway? What about the others...
He tries to lift his head up, but it feels as though the world is spinning around him. He grunts as he lifts a hand to his forehead, immediately being hit by a wave of throbbing pain.
"Augh...what....where-" Manitoba looks up dizzily at the sky, noticing strange, cream coloured blobs floating above him. That's what they looked like to him currently, at least. He squints hard, trying to figure out where he was exactly in the headspace.
"What...?" He tries to stand up, but he falls back down with a heavy thud as he realises something: he was in shackles. Well, one of his legs was at least. He pulls against the chain weakly, but to no avail.
"No....wait..." fear starts to creep in as he starts to remember what happened. Had he really let Mal take him down that easily? Damnit...
But where were the others?
He pulls against the chain again, putting in more effort this time around. Still, nothing. He grunts with frustation, grabbing his ankle in order to find a way to break the chain. But alas, it needed a key.
"Goddamnit!! Mal!!" Manitoba yells, senselessly tugging his leg in an attempt to free himself, only for it to mean nothing. He looks around at the area, everything being too far away for him to see anyone, or any place. At least, none that he recognised...
He eventually stops, heaving with exhaustion from tugging the chain. He wipes his brow of sweat, sitting defeated on the fleshy ground of the headspace. He looks behind him and realises what the chain was attached to: a massive boulder. Completely wrapped in his chains. And that was it. Just him, in chains, besides a boulder, underneath the ominous sky...
Until he hears a threatening voice approaching.
"My goodness, that was quite a performance of your failing wit, wasn't it Toto?" Manitoba's hairs stick up as he hears Mal's voice. He immediately starts on him, "YOU! You beast! You twisted son of a-" he reaches out to the demon but is restricted by the chains, just falling short of reaching him. Mal's laugh rings loudly in his ears.
"Oh-ho, Toto...you just don't know when you've lost, don't you? Always so determined...even long after the battle is over." Mal towers over Manitoba menacingly, a smirk ever-present on his face.
"What did you do to the others?! Where are they?! And where's V-" Manitoba is cut off as Mal speaks again, holding what appears to be a lasso in his hands, "So many questions...yet such little amount of time...how about we just cut straight to the chase, shall we?"
Mal tossed the lasso in front of Manitoba; Manitoba stares down at it with confusion, "The hell is this for? Another trick you're playing on me? Or at least attempting to?"
Mal laughs, "Lil' old me? Playing a trick? You really don't know me well, Toto...you see...I have a proposition for you. One that I hope you may consider."
"Oh yeah? And what would that be?" Manitoba asks, still absent mindedly tugging at his shackle.
Mal considers Manitoba for a moment before continuing his talking, "you see, Toto...we may be fighting on different sides here but...we're both wanting the same thing ultimately. And do you wanna know what that is? Or are you smart enough as I think you are to figure it out yourself?"
Manitoba rolls his eyes, scoffing, "You may have to tell it yourself. Cuz I'm simply stumped." he voice oozes with sarcasm, and Mal picks up on that even as he continues.
"We both want freedom, power, control! We both want...autonomy." Mal speaks in a slow and dangerous tone, and this seems to capture Manitoba's attention.
"What do you mean by that, Kookaburra?" Manitoba asks suspiciously, raising an eyebrow. Mal chuckles slightly, "oh, come on now...you know exactly what I mean by that."
"I pick up on more than you'd think, Toto. Don't think I hadn't noticed before in the past when you always seemed to scoff when attention always turned to Mike. How everytime you fronted, no one ever acknowledged you for being YOU! Only as a fragment, a mere extension of a person! An object...easily disposed when not needed anymore. And isn't that how Mike treats you?"
"When has he ever cared for you when you weren't useful to him?" Those words cut Manitoba deep. He looks away from Mal, not wanting to acknowledge what he said at all. Because those were the feelings he'd rather not feel at all.
Mal smirks, knowing he had hit a rough spot in Manitoba. "I bet you're sick of being bossed around, being told what to do...well...funnily enough, so am I. We both want our own freedom. So why can't we help each other in order to achieve it?"
"I'd never turn my back on them." Manitoba answers coldly, clenching his fists together, "not on this system, and certainly not on Mike."
"Oh! How considerate of you....forever selfless, aren't you, Toto?" Mal says mockingly. "But haven't you ever considered yourself? What you want to do? Where you want to be in this system? Because if you keep going down the way you are now...you'll forever be a puppet to Mike."
"I'm NOT a puppet!!" Manitoba snarls, clearly wanting to reject Mal's words, despite the fact part of him really agrees with him, "and I know my place in this system: I protect!! I protect the others, I protect Mike, I protect everyone!"
"But doesn't it ever get tiring?" Mal smirks, walking in circles around Manitoba like a predator tracking his prey, "caring sooo much about others's welfare, whilst rejecting your own desires and needs? Well clearly you're failing at your job in some regard: afterall, you said you protect 'everyone' but aren't you part of that 'everyone' too?"
"I-..." Manitoba stops himself, unsure of what to say. He shakes his head, "whatever mind games you think you're playing on me, it's not gonna work! I'll never work for you!"
"Work for me? I never asked for that." Mal snaps his fingers, and a fire pit appears near the boulder. "All I was suggesting is that...maybe you should do something for yourself. Be selfish. Just this one time. Who knows?" He looks up at the sky above, and Manitoba looks up at them too, "you may enjoy it a lot more than you'd think."
Mal looks at Manitoba one last time before beginning to slowly walk away. "Oi, wait! You-" Manitoba stands up and tries to reach for Mal, but he falls over on the chains again. He grunts, sitting up again and seeing the lasso left behind by Mal.
He picks it up, noting how he must've gotten it from Manitoba's own district. "What's this even for again? The demon never got far enough to tell me that part..." he looks back up at the sky, focusing on the floating cream-coloured blobs in the sky. Now that he finally wasn't dizzy, he could clearly tell what they were now: dream clouds.
Manitoba locks his eyes on one of the clouds, and instinctively he throws the lasso up at the sky to catch it. He reins it in, grasping its fluffy body tightly. He looks deep into it and sees...
A faint dream, combined with a fond memory...perhaps the brain's way of processing events....Mike, Zoey, and Cameron, sitting in a pleasant field...having a picnic...they're all smiling...
Manitoba hadn't seen this dream before, but he stares, transfixed. He can't help but enjoy it but at the same time, it was like watching through a one sided window...people living a life he could never possibly have...
Subconsciously, his grip tightens on the cloud and his hands tremble as the dream goes on. Manitoba bites his lip, both unable to look away but also wanting it to stop. It felt like the universe's way of teasing him with an impossible future. It made him want to...
He snaps out of it, as he suddenly realises where he was standing: the dream had caught fire in Mal's previously set up firepit. The fire was slowly distorting the dream cloud, "No no no! Stop that!!" Manitoba tries to put out the fire, but it was too late. The dream cloud had burnt to a miserable crisp in his hands. Manitoba stares at the charred remains, shocked and full of guilt for what happened. But...part of him feels...satisfied. Like taking his anger out on something...
"Damnit..." Manitoba shakes the ashes off of his hands and into the fire, which grows stronger. He just stares into the fire, distracting himself from the difficult feelings that he'd rather not address head on.

CHAPTER SEVEN: THE TAKEOVER.
"Mani, wait up!" Vito rushes after Manitoba alongside Svetlana and Chester who linger behind slightly: the guard tower gets closer as they venture towards it.
"Dontcha' think it'd be a good idea to like, I dunno, wait to be sure if it's true? I mean...gettin' hit in the head...how could that bring him back?" Vito reaches out to grab Manitoba's shoulder but he's ignored in his attempts to reason with him. "Waiting won't do us any favours...that's what he wants us to do....sit around like Wiley dingos so we don't stop him before it's too late..." Manitoba storms in front, his fists clenched and trembling.
Vito reaches for Manitoba's hand in an attempt to stop him, his voice uncertain, "but what if he wants us to freak out like this?? Maybe he's lurin' us straight to him for a trap!". Chester lags behind, Svetlana offering walking aid to him as he hobbles on his ancient cane. "He's got a point, Aussie," Chester calls out, his breathing unsteady as they walk, "Mal's a known conniving schemer. Even if he's only now just came back, he'll still have his cards to play in order to catch us out-"
"I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING, OKAY?!" Manitoba looks back at them all with a fierce gaze, his voice trembling yet final. "The Malevolent one is dangerous. He needs to be stopped and locked up before he can harm us all again. And I'm not second guessing him anymore." The other alters stare at Manitoba with a stunned expression, Svetlana places a hand on Chester's shoulder worriedly. Manitoba jolts Vito's hand off of his own sharply, causing Vito to recoil.
"I'm not letting us get hurt again. You lot can either come with me to stop him...or cower back at HQ and wait for him to take over." Manitoba continues to walk ahead. Chester and Svetlana look at each other with anger and concern. Vito looks down at his hands, then watches Manitoba walk ahead, choosing to follow him. Chester and Svetlana follow suit.
"Damn hooligan...he never learnt how to restrain himself..." Chester mutters under his breath. Svetlana sighs, watching them both walk ahead.
They eventually make it to the front of the guard tower: a large, thick metal door stands in their way of knowing the truth. Manitoba goes to the door and bangs on it, making the other alters flinch at the piercing sound.
"We know you're awake, Mal!! Come out here and face us head on! Or are you gonna get your hench-woman to do it for you?" He waits for a moment, and when he hears no response he bangs on the door again, "coward!! You're all talk, ain't ya?"
Within the tower, Umbra and Mal are heading down the stairs. Mal seems to have adjusted to walking and is no longer relying on Umbra for support. "Did you happen to keep my old...'prototypes' while I was away?" Mal asks casually, glancing at the nearby door on the second to last floor of the tower: it was Mal's designated "craft room" for his various works related to puppetry and woodworking. Umbra nods, her voice professional and clear: "certainly. I left everything in this tower just as you left it all those years ago." Mal smirks, "perfect...I may have to bring out that 'special' design for what I have planned..."
As they reach the surface floor of the tower, they hear the relentless banging on the door from Manitoba. Umbra observes the door for a moment before turning to Mal, "shall I halt them as you said?" Mal nods, "how unfortunate that I couldn't make my return a little less obvious to them...but it just gives me an excuse to execute my plan earlier."
Umbra nods. She walks towards the door and stands just before it. She holds her hand up and her palm glows a shade of purple as the door starts to shake.
"Finally! Someone's answering! Now come out and show yourself ya Wiley-" Manitoba's yells are cut off as the door is thrown open by Umbra's powers, throwing him to the side like he was nothing. "Mani!!" Vito rushes over to Manitoba, who lays on the floor clutching his head in excruciating pain.
Umbra walks out of the tower, staring down Svetlana and Chester with immense disdain. "You alters never know when to stay in your place...but now you will learn the hard way, as the Malevolent one has returned!"
Chester grunts, shaking his cane at Umbra angrily, "You!" He spits out, "You two are both disgraces to this system! A prime example of the youth of today! Evil! Wicked!" Svetlana clenches her grip on Chester's shoulder as she stares at Umbra, "Chester, please be careful! You know she's dangerous..."
"Pah! Dangerous! She's nothin' but all talk if ya ask me! What she needs is a firm talkin' to!" Chester takes a step forward but is held back by Svetlana, "Chester, she's already harmed Manitoba!" Chester scoffs, "yeah, with a door! I'd like to see how she fairs with her bare fists!"
"Oh, I'd fair much better than you would, old man. But sure, I'll entertain you for the moment.." Umbra chuckles, approaching Chester and ready to take him down. She slightly towers over him in terms of height, they both glare at each other mercilessly.
Svetlana stands between them both, her voice shaking with fear, "No! I won't let you harm him! Chester, why did you have to rile her up in the first-"
Umbra shoves Svetlana out of the way, "I'm not here for you, gymnast. But you'll be next after I deal with your grandpa!" She stumbles to the floor with a wince. "Hey! Get your hands off her, you ninny!" Chester barks fiercely, striking Umbra with his cane. Umbra cries out as she's hit in the chest with the wooden cane.
Mal's eyes widen with fury when he sees Umbra hurt. He growls, emerging from the shadows into the light of the headspace. All of the alters collectively gasp upon seeing the once dormant alter awake and lively.
"Mal...that damn demon really is back...get away! I'll make sure you never see the light of day again, beast!" Chester holds up his cane in Mal's direction. Mal, blinded by rage, charges at Chester with his claws out. Mal connects with Chester's cane, his claws clinging onto it and causing it to start breaking. Chester pushes back against Mal with his cane, both of them grunting.
"Go back to the dark pit of hell you crawled out of!" Chester growls at Mal, spitting out his words like they were hot fire. Mal smirks darkly, "not before I take out that other eye of yours, old man." Chester catches his breath' that statement alone setting something off in Chester: unpleasant memories...
Amongst the struggle between the two, Svetlana tries to intervene but is halted by Umbra. Vito looks back at the fight, unsure whether or not to stay with Manitoba or to help Chester. He takes a last look at Manitoba before getting off his feet and charging into the chaos.
"Ayo! Get your filthy claws off of him, demon!" Vito goes to punch Mal but before he can get the chance, Mal pounces on him. "Vito, no! Ya damn fool!" Chester is knocked onto the floor by the force of Mal's pounce, watching as he starts to attack Vito.
There is a fierce fight between Mal and Vito but it is brief, as Mal (despite his shorter size compared to Vito) overpowers Vito with his demonic strength. Vito collapses to the floor, scratches all over his body. Mal stands over his body, his foot pressing Vito's head into the ground.
"Vito NO!!" Svetlana cries out at seeing Vito get hurt: he's like a brother to her, afterall. She starts rushing towards Vito but a familiar old hand grabs her wrist. "Stay away from him, svet! That animal knows no bounds..." Chester looks up at Svetlana, his voice shaking with both absolute anger and a hint of genuine fear.
Manitoba finally looks up from the ground to see the mess of everything left behind by Mal: he sees Vito's body laying lifeless on the floor. He feels a pit dropping in his stomach as he stares at the sight of Mal stomping his head into the ground. Manitoba gets off the floor and staggers towards Mal, filled with pure rage in this moment.
"Oh no you don't!" Umbra storms towards Manitoba and grabs him by the collar of his shirt. And with that, she slams his head into the metal door again.
The last thing he hears is the sounds of cries as he fades into unconsciousness once again.

CHAPTER SIX: AWAKENING.
Within the darkness of the once dormant guard tower, something began to stir.
The Malevolent one lays in bed, curled underneath a blanket, all with the air of a fierce sleeping dragon. Slowly, he begins to feel life again.
It first starts with small twitches, then grumbling with limited comprehension, then the feeble opening of the eyes and then....
He slowly sits up, eyes squinted (although only one eye was visible amongst his matted hair) his demonic tail flickering under the covers. He places a hand to his face absent-mindedly, before realising what had happened.
He was back. Finally back. After so long of darkness...he holds both hands out and flexes each finger, as though experiencing it all for the first time. He then extends his fingers into claws, and then back into fingers again. He still had his powers...
He smirks mischievously.
Suddenly his bedroom door is thrown open, and there in the entrance of his room stood a familiar face for Mal...
The woman stood tall, wearing a long dress in a spiky design akin to the tower. Her eyes widen when she sees him awake: "I saw the light above the tower....i knew that meant you were back...Mal..." Umbra says, a smile on her face.
Umbra was always loyal to the Malevolent one. After all, she formed in order to help and protect him. She's the only one Mal would and could ever turn to even when the whole world was against him.
Mal looks at Umbra and chuckles, taking a foot out of the bed, "I always knew you were a loyal ally, Umbra. You've been waiting for so long?"
"Ever since you went away," Umbra's voice hardens slightly as she continues, "ever since those other wretched alters drove you into isolation...and made you go dormant. I've stayed here. Protecting this tower, and you..."
"Typical." Mal says as he takes a step forward, only to fall onto his knees on the floor. He was certainly not used to walking after being essentially in a coma for so long. "Ugh...damnit..." Umbra helps Mal to his feet as he grumbles with annoyance, "I'll be fine...this'll all be the least of my problems soon...now I need to focus on reclaiming my place in this system."
They leave Mal's room and head towards a nearby elevator. They get inside and Umbra presses the top floor button. "So, what is your plan now that you've returned?" Umbra asks him, getting straight down to business, "I've been awaiting the day that we- or at least you- can get revenge for what those alters did..."
"Oh, they'll get what's coming to them..." Mal responds, half standing and half leaning against Umbra for support: she's a giant compared to him, so it was just like leaning against a tree. "Despite my prolonged slumber, I was still able to...shall we say...keep an eye on them....in a way..."
"Really now? How could that be?" Umbra curiously asks. Mal snickers as he reclaims his reasoning: "Well, dormancy isn't all darkness and nothingness- well at least it wasn't for me....it was more like...a weird inbetween of sleep and Astral projection...sometimes I was just resting...but others...I was like a ghost...lingering in the shadows and the dark places no one cares enough about to check...I picked up on a few things...but I was never lucid enough to use that information...but now?" He laughs as he speaks, "now...now I hold more power than ever before. And once I reclaim that title of 'host', I'll become unstoppable. Those alters will be in the palms of my hands...they'll be trapped in my thrall...and for good this time."
The elevator stops, opening to let them out onto the top level of the tower. The room was large, with an overwhelming purple hue. In the centre, a fleshy-brain fragment hung above like a chandelier, and underneath...stood a red button upon a great stand.
"I assume you remember what this button does?" Mal smirks at Umbra, allowing her to view the button herself, "yes...I remember...I had came up here many times whilst you were away...just watching it."
"Well, that's good that you remember. I'm going to give you one important command, Umbra. One that'll mean most of all to me out of anything you could possibly ever do for me." Mal stares up at Umbra, his expression as serious as possible for a teen boy to muster: "do not, and I mean, DO NOT, ever...let anyone touch. This. Button. Ever." Umbra nods at Mal, her expression matching his. "Of course, Mal...I will guard it with my very being."
"Good..." Mal grins, turning away from both Umbra and the button and approaching a nearby window. He sees the open headspace, looking out through it to see the Headspace HQ alongside a few familiar faces outside of it...appearing to be approaching the tower...
Mal smirks, his eyes fixated on the slow approaching figures in the distance.
"They know. Don't let them in the tower."

CHAPTER FIVE: A DISTURBANCE.
Back in Headspace, the other alters and Mike are still playing Go-fish. Mike's turn is up; he rummages through his cards before looking up at Svetlana eagerly. "Svetlana, do you happen to have any fives?"
"Hmm..." Svetlana looks down at her cards thoroughly, before triumphantly rising from her seat, her voice booming confidently: "go with ze fishing!!". Mike chuckles as he reaches for the deck of cards in the middle of the table, Vito snorts, "it's 'go fish', Svet. Not 'fishing'." Svetlana frowns, sitting back down in her seat, "oh...right...my mistake..."
Suddenly they all feel a sharp thud that shakes the headspace briefly: Svetlana yelps, Chester grasps onto the table cloth, "what on earth-?". Vito glances out of the window to see Mal's guard tower, still standing in the distance unaffected by the sudden shaking. He can't help but fixate on the flickering purple light coming from the tower, until he snaps out of it once he hears the familiar "poof" of another switch.
Sure enough, he turns to see that Mike has vanished, assuming back into front. Although Manitoba was still not back yet.
Chester clears his elderly throat, still recovering from the recent quake, "where's that aussie gone? He's due back here any minute-"
There's a brief poof as Manitoba returns to the headspace, collapsing in a heap on the floor. Svetlana gasps, "Manitoba!" all of the alters stand up, alarmed by Manitoba's exhausted return. Vito kneels down beside him, gently shaking him by his shoulders.
"Mani? Mani wake up! Are you okay? What happened out there Mani?? Did we get hurt or-"
Vito is cut off as Manitoba gasps awake, clutching his head fiercely and shaking.
"Woah man! Are you hurt?" Vito goes to place a hand on Manitoba's forehead but Manitoba winces, causing Vito to flinch and move a little to give him space.
Manitoba looks up at the others, his expression tense and afraid as though he had seen a ghost. He finally speaks, his voice wavering and hoarse, "Did-...did you all feel that...? That-....that shaking? I-...I think-..."
His hands shake as he rubs the back of his head instinctively, as though he could still feel the blunt pain of the shovel. Oh, the shovel...Manitoba wonders how Mike's holding up with the consequences of that...
Manitoba suddenly stands up and rushes to the window, the others exclaiming in fear of Manitoba's condition. "Ayo, wait Mani!" Vito bolts up and places a hand on Manitoba's shoulder. Chester gets up with his cane, yelling with confusion and concern, "you're not in good health, ya darn fool kid!! Ya need to lay down or-"
"Wait!" Manitoba shouts, still rubbing his head and looking out at the distance: Mal's guard tower. "Look..."
Manitoba points to the distant tower, the others staring with curiosity and slight fear. "The light...i-its..."
It was no longer a faint flicker. The purple light shined bright like a beacon. This could only mean one thing.
The Malevolent one had returned.
