Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله said:

سأل رجل أحد السلف، A man asked one of the salaf:

كم نقرأ من القران؟ How much Qur’an should we read?

قال: على قدر السعادة التي تريدها He said: Equivalent to the amount of happiness you want.

الكلام أسيرك فإذا خرج من فيك صرت أنت أسيره

والله عند لسان كل قائل

{مَّا يَلْفِظُ مِن قَوْلٍ إِلَّا لَدَيْهِ رَقِيبٌ عَتِيدٌۭ}

الجواب الكافي[٢٤٩]

مَّا يَلْفِظُ مِن قَوْلٍ إِلَّا لَدَيْهِ رَقِيبٌ عَتِيدٌۭ

Al-Imām ibn al-Qayyim [may Allāh have mercy on him] said:

“Speech is your captive, but the moment it leaves your mouth you become its captive. By Allāh, every speaker possesses a tongue.”

Not a word does a person utter without having a ˹vigilant˺ observer ready ˹to write it down˺.¹
