antis make fandom a worse place. They make people feel unsafe and unwelcomed. Ships are not more important than real people, but antis uphold fictional characters above and beyond the possible trauma of anyone they deem insufficient (shippers, other survivors, etc,) it’s a real shame. Fandom should be a welcoming place for anyone who needs refuge, and a place to vent and write whatever they need, or simply want to. antis will never make fandom a better place as long as they attack others over perceived transgressions.

Pedophiles use a lot of things to groom children with. Toys, candy, pets, television, gifts and promises. It’s not centered around just one thing. We aren’t banning every potential item that could be used to harm someone, are we? I was exposed to graphic porn at a young age (around 12), and get this, it was porn of Disney princesses. I distinctly remember the guy saying to me ‘Now you’ll never see your princesses the same way again.’ It was a very uncomfortable and disturbing experience for me. Who do I blame here? The artist for making these images in the first place? Creating content they could enjoy and share with others? Drawing porn of fictional characters that were then exposed to me when I was a kid? Or….the actual predator who decided to use them to violate my boundaries? If he didn’t have those pictures, there could have been plenty of other options for him to chose from (Real porn for instance). I do not have any animosity for the artist who drew the images, because why should I? It’s not their fault that their art was used in a shitty way by shitty people. The post in question is saying not to sexualize…fictional characters?Now, the characters in question are ‘children’, but age is arbitrary in fiction anyways. They are merely objects, with no goals, emotions, or thoughts. Fictional characters do not have rights, you can’t hurt them, or abuse them. Whether they are labled ‘14′ or ‘30′ doesn’t matter. You can do what you want to them within the realms of fiction because that is the only space where anything can ‘happen’ to those characters. I’m trying to defend the rights of real people…not whatever the hell you think those fictional characters are.
