Goodbye

Goodbye - “God be with ye”

A gradual contraction of four words. Records show the progression as God be wy you –> God b'uy –> God buoye –> God buy –> Go’odby –> Goodbye

Feisty 

Feisty - “fart” (mid. eng.)

A word with a long journey. From “fist” meaning to fart, then took on the meaning of simply to stink. People would call scrappy, stray dogs “fisty curs” meaning literally stinking dogs. The meaning eventually shifted to any animal that had spunk and resolve.

Fiasco - “make a bottle” (it.)

When Venetian glassworkers made a mistake, the useless glass was thrown in a heap, good for nothing but “fare fiasco” - making bottles.
